“A rather agreeable place to stay”
Reviewed December 22, 2010

The hostal is a very pleasant place to stay in a town still suffering badly from the 2007 earthquake. We used it as a base to explore the Islas Ballestas (fantastic) and the Paracas Reserve (superb). The hostal arranged the wonderful trips.
Guidebooks give the impression that there isn't much of a choice of places to stay in Paracas but that's not the case. Pisco however was still a pleasant place to stay for a night.
The rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant although, as has been noted earlier, they surround a courtyard and it would be good if windows opened to the outside. Maybe some of the other rooms do have this, but ours didn't.
A note about food -
The young boy waiting was at the very early stages of his hospitality career where, I imagine he was trying to make as many mistakes as possible now (spilling drinks and putting meat in the vegetarian food) so as to be almost perfect in adulthood. (His name may even have been Basil).
So, I wouldn't recommend eating at the hostal but I would recommend it as a place to stay.

Pisco was devistated by an earthquake. The hostal is being rebuilt and is almost done. It is a nice place to stay with clean rooms. Price was only S/95.

Pisco suffered a strong earthquake in 2007, and many buildings were damaged, including this hotel. Apparently, this hotel was completely destroyed, but it has been re-built so everything is brand-new as of right now. Most of the photos on their web site are of the old hotel, but the new building is in the same style. The rooms are absolutely beautiful with tasteful colors and crown moldings at the ceiling. The mattresses are brand new and similar to those found at luxury hotels. They are firm, but not rock-hard as in other Peruvian hotels I've stayed at. The tile work in the bathrooms is new and lovely. The shower had consistent temperature and water pressure. The room has a fan, but no air conditioning. There was cable TV with about 50 channels. Breakfast is not free here, and you have to let them know the night before if you want breakfast for the next morning. If you happen to be driving a car, they have free parking inside the entry driveway. The current new building is far back on the property, so you can't hear any noise from the street. As long as the other hotel guests are quiet, you won't have any problems. The only thing I didn't like about the rooms were the old Spanish-style shutters on the windows. The rooms can get a bit stuffy, but for security reasons, you can't leave the window open unless you are inside the room. But, you can close the shutters to block out the light from the morning or afternoon sun. They charged us 70 Soles (about US$24) for a room with twin beds in February 2008. I would definitely stay they again. The earthquake damaged Pisco so much that it may be too early for a typical tourist visit at this time, but if you are in the area, this is a great place to stay. There are only a handful of restaurants now, and the best one is Az de Oro, which is about 10-15 minutes walking distance. The other restaurants (that survived the earthquake) in town weren't anywhere near the quality of Az de Oro, but they were cheaper.

  • Liked — The brand new lovely rooms
  • Disliked — They surprised us with charges for breakfast when we checked out.
