We camped at Tambopaxi, we did not stay in the lodge there. my rating is for the camping, not the rooms necessarily.
It was a bit awkward because we wanted to camp, and were informed about the availability of bathrooms, hot showers, and so on. it was nice to camp and have bathrooms to use, but it seemed like the staff either felt awkward toward campers or treated us differently. either way we felt as if we were stepping on their toes a bit, but we didnt want to... for example, one of us asked for a towel (offering to pay) so he could shower but he was told in broken english that showers were "not allowed" for campers... but then a different staff member lent him a towel for free. so who knows...
otherwise, camping was cool. nice views of Cotopaxi, though there was much cloud cover while we were there. it was very windy and cold, a bit of rain as well. picnic tables available around the camping area.
keep in mind, the north entrance into the park, from Machachi, technically closes at 4 or something like that, but there was a guard when we arrived at about 6. we had a little bit of trouble getting in because we were not on a reservation list for Tambopaxi... it seems most people go through the main entrance farther south from the west. however, Tambopaxi is very close to the north entrance, so if for some reason you really weren't allowed in by car you might just be able to walk a few minutes.
as far as the lodge - it seemed very nice, but also pricey. a generator powers the whole place, and it seems quite luxurious. if you are willing to pay for it it's probably worth it. the restaurant was nice too. i only had hot chocolate so i could sit inside away from the wind and cold. but others were having really nice meals with great views of the awesome volcano. also, wifi available. so ironic - in the elements but still on facebook... seemed wrong haha
camping cost $7 per person per night. breakfast was not included, clearly.
