Owner description: Valle Nevado is South America's premier ski resort, offering access to the largest amount of terrain and the most modern lift system on the continent. The Valle Nevado complex provides a complete experience, including boutique shops, three hotels, private apartments, six restaurants, a full-service spa and fitness center, cinema, library, bars and lounges, a pub with live music, a kids entertainment center and a state-of-the-art events venue, all set to the breathtaking backdrop of the magnificent Andes. Located just 90 minutes from Santiago, Valle Nevado offers 2,200 acres of varied terrain, and 17 lifts including the country's only gondola. Due to the resort's orientation and altitude at 9,924 feet, Valle Nevado on average receives the most snow of Central Valley resorts, with a seasonal average of 300+ inches. Short lift lines and few people on the slopes provides days of powder skiing after a storm. The resort has a terrain park, plenty of side and backcountry terrain, and guests spending 7 nights at the resort receive 2 interconnect tickets to neighboring resorts, opening a staggering 7,000 acres of terrain. The adventurous can book heli-skiing directly at the resort, a truly spectacular experience with vertical drops of up to 5,000 feet in one run. The 2017 season runs from June 23 to September 22. Join the resort for the 2nd Annual Chile Wine Festival from Aug. 18 - 24.

“Good skiing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

Good tracks for begginers and intermidiate skiers. Lifts are a bit slow though. Beverages and snacks are overpriced. We were lucky and snow conditions were great with 5 sunny days in a row!

“Feel the Chilean winter 1 hour away from Santiago”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

I have been living in Santiago for almost 2 years and I first went to Valle Nevado a couple of weeks ago... It was a funny experience, the friend I was supposed to go with, stood me up, but I made an effort and decided to go anyway... The best decision ever! Going for the first time may be a bit tricky (there is no way to get there unless you take a tour from an operator, or rent a car)... The value for the price paid is fair, if this is your first time skiing, I recommend to take a class!!! Believe me, after a 1.5 hour class, I was going down soft slopes and enjoying myself like crazy!! I can not wait to go back...

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

I had a terrible experience with the apartments they rent at valle nevado. They show pictures of the apartments but those are not the ones you actually rent. I would like to post picture soy the real apartment as I wish someone had done this before I rented them. really dirty and in bad condition the one in valle del sol. do not be fooled!

Valle Nevado strives to provide an outstanding experience for all guests, and because of this in 2013 all apartment units at Valle Nevado must comply with strict criteria including standardized bedding, kitchenware, and bathroom linens, and each apartment must meet strict decor and quality standards. Most of Valle Nevado's apartments were built during the past 2 years and are brand-new, exceptionally attractive units with spectacular views, outdoor terraces, flat-screen TVs and fully stocked kitchens.

“Overrated Resort, Crowded, and Terrible Access”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

Decided to head down to Valle Nevado from California, because Valle Nevado just became a sister resort to Mammoth just this year. Because of this, as a season pass holder for Mammoth, you get 7 free days of lift tix to Valle Nevado.

Decided to go snowboarding, and prior to even leaving CA, I contacted Valle Nevado for lodging options. I was quoted $3856 USD for 4 nights which was a double room in mid-August. That's just ludicrous. Then I thought that maybe these hotels were REALLY nice. After getting up there, they were your standard mountain lodging. $1000/night? NO! Maybe $300-$400/night USD.

Worst of all, was the drive from the base of the mountain in Santiago. The distance without traffic is about 40km. And time-wise, it should take about an hour to get to the resort. But last weekend it took nearly 4 hours to get up and 3.5 to get down. Single-lane roads with many switchbacks. And this is the ONLY way to get up there.

Finally, no high-speed lifts (I'm a spoiled American), extremely crowded, expensive food/alcohol, and a good number of T-bars and tow-ropes which are very annoying for snowboarders.

The one plus is that I could say that I've snowboarded in South America in the Andes.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are sorry that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us. We'd like to point out a few things in response to your post.

The road to Valle Nevado and Farellones will be overhauled into a fast-moving highway by 2016. Meanwhile, the local municipality this year is fixing and repaving much of the road to be ready by the 2013 season, adding more guardrails and generally making the drive up safer and faster. Unfortunately, the state of the road is the responsibility of the local municipality and not Valle Nevado, as the road is shared with La Parva, Farellones, and El Colorado.

Only in rare instances (such as an accident) does it take anywhere approaching 4 hours to get to Valle Nevado or Farellones. Usually the drive up or down is 90 minutes. On weekends, the road is closed to down traffic from 9am to 3pm and closed to up traffic from 3pm to 8pm to facilitate larger weekend crowds. The fastest way up is via helicopter, which you can book through the resort.

Valle Nevado has the most modern lift system in South America, with Chile's only high-speed quad, and a new gondola for this upcoming 2013 season. The resort will also open its "Curve 17 Day Visitor Center" this year just below the resort's main complex with 500 parking spaces, lift ticket kiosks, ski and snowboard rental, ski and snowboard school sign-up, clothing rental, ski and snowboard shop, and cafes.

The hallmark of a South American ski holiday is that there are fewer crowds than in the US or Europe, and while a sunny Saturday morning can see lift lines of up to 5 to 10 minutes' wait, visitors are always surprised to see there are hardly any skiers and snowboarders on the mountain and no wait in lift lines. Often, powder can be found for 2 to 3 days after a storm.

Lastly, the price quote you gave is during Regular Season for 2 people in the Hotel Valle Nevado, our upscale lodging option, and includes lodging, lift tickets, breakfast and dinner, and access to all facilities. Valle offers mid-range lodging and economical lodging, as well as Early Bird deals to save on cost.

Thank you again for taking the time to send us your comments, we are striving to improve the Valle Nevado experience with our 2020 Master Development Plan that will see improvements every year.

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

Once you are actually skiing, Valle Nevado is beautiful. But, I can't say that it is worth the horrible, dangerous road and dealing with the staff and system to actually get on the hill. Everyone was rude, and no one told us the same thing twice, there is nowhere to park and it's very expensive. I'll try a different hill next time.

Thank you for your response and we agree with you that Valle Nevado is incredibly beautiful! Regarding your issues with the road, in 2013 we are happy to report that the road has been repaved, widened, with new guardrails and other safety features to make it easier than ever to reach the resort. Our new "Curva 17" day visitor center has hundreds of parking spaces, lockers, quick equipment rental and a new gondola to get you up on the hill faster. We invite you to visit us this year and see for yourself!
