“Nice pousada, bad restaurant”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

The pousada is very pleasant exept from the restaurant. The "grelhado camarao" were fried rather than grilled. And we have been waiting a long time before beeing served.
The pool is very nice, and the location is quite good as it is calm althoug closed to the bars of the 2nd praia.
The bedrooms are not quite big but very clean, and decorated in a modern style.

I am really in two minds about our experience at Minha Louca Paixo. There were some wonderful things but so much room for improvement.

We stayed in the best room in the place with a spa bath, balcony and view over the ocean. The room was really lovely but there were a few drawbacks in that the bathroom really needed an update and it was also noisy with people passing right under the window and the local wheelbarrow taxi drivers hanging around outside every morning trying to get a fare or sell a boat trip. It was expensive (over $250 Aussie) per night and for that price we felt it should have been better, the floors were fake wood and the bed headboard was even fake leather look printed on paper...a bit strange. From the entrance corridor to our room we also had lovely view of what appeared to be a building site (luckily not in action) complete with graffiti...lovely!

The reception staff were wonderful though and so helpful, I really feel I should mention this as they did go that extra mile and were very helpful, it's just a shame that there is evidently very little money being spent on maintaining the property.

The breakfast was a little disappointing (probably the least variety and quality we had anywhere in our 4 week trip) and there were ants in everything, the sugar, the food, it was pretty gross. I am not talking the odd ant either, I think the ones in the sugar had been living there for several days. It also appeared that the table cloths were not changed often. We opted not to have dinner in the restaurant as we were so disappointed with breakfast. One morning we actually skipped breakfast because it was really not all that appealing.

There are some pet tortoises at the pousada which were really cute (if a little randy).

The pool area was really nice although again it was in need of maintenance with the decking requiring oiling, tiles missing from the pool and the white cushions on the beds very dirty.

Overall we had mixed opinions about Morro de Sao Paulo. The overall vibe of the place is cool with bars on the beach and music etc. Unfortunately the set up of the wooden decking path along the beach turns the beach front into the island's main road which is used by wheelbarrow taxis, deliveries etc and kind of detracts from the idyllic island vibe.

We walked to the fort one afternoon which was lovely and deserted and there were dolphins there too! We also caught the ferry to Gamboa for a late lunch, it is really lovely round there near sunset, make the trip!!

Location is perfect. Just off second beach, so just away from the loud restaurants, but within easy reach of everything.
The infinity pool is great, especially with a caipirinha from the poolbar in hand.
We had a 3-persons room with the extra third bed on a semi-open higher floor (vide). This made that the room didnt look stuffed or full as a result of a third bed which is often the case, but the temperature up there could get a bit high (luckily there was a good airco).

Unfortunately, we had some issues with the cleaning staff, but it was resolved with the owner.

Very beautiful, relaxing, great location, best food on the island. The rooftop infinity-pool is stunning. The restaurant is outstanding. Perfect location in a quiet area on the third beach. Nevertheless close to lively second beach. Friendly staff.

perfect location, nice restaurant-bar, we just loved the room and the big shower..........don't miss the pool, we just got there without reservation and we thought the price was ok for what Brasil is now (the prices have gone up!!). We had some food at the restaurant and it was actually very pleasant even if the service is a bit slow...

Room Tip: take the rooms upstairs because otherwise there is not much intimacy.........

My husbund and I spent our honeymoon at this hotel. It was perfect. The place is so beautiful and the swiming pool is perfect. The bedroom was also very nice and cozy. We stayed in a room with a view to the garden and it was quite at night. The location is also great, the hotel is located at the beggining of the third beach (it is really close to the second beach). Loved breakfast.

Beautifully done, fantastic pool area. The pousada is extending and family rooms with à small kitchen Will be soon available. Its location could not be better. Near the lively 2nd beach and the peaceful natural pools of the 4th beach. Near to the best of Morro.
