Description: Notably the last restaurant on Coastal Highway in Fenwick Island, Delaware before entering Ocean City, Maryland, Delaware may have saved the best for last. The award winning Fenwick Crabhouse has been an icon in the resort for almost 50 years. Though being named a "favorite seafood dive in the US" for an unprecedented fourth straight year by Coastal Living Magazine, the Fenwick Crabhouse is hardly a dive. While the atmosphere is casual, they have an appealing menu of carefully prepared meals catering to a variety of tastes. You will find great wines, craft beers, their hallmark "The Perfect Crab cake" (NY Times), Delaware Magazine's 2011 "Best Ribs," and of course, those wonderful steamed crabs. Their mission is to provide a unique blend of creatively prepared dishes using fresh, locally grown foods and award-winning beverages to the table. The Fenwick Crabhouse is a seasonal restaurant off-season hours change before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Call for hours.

“Across the Board Average”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

My parents are Fenwick residents and they hadn't been to the Fenwick Crabhouse in over a decade. Not much has changed. Service was pleasant, but painfully slow. Prices are high, and not competitive with other restaurants in the area. We started with the Creamy Crab dip. Served in a bread bowl, it was tasty and rich. Our entrees were mediocre - seafood lasagna, blackened scallops, crab lump sautée and crab balls.

This restaurant serves up dinner 'old school' style. Portions are huge, perhaps to make up for the $$$. Lots of butter, cream cheese and mayo used in recipes. My parents are in their mid-70s. Dad found the blackened scallops to be overly spicy and Mom was stuffed to the gills with the crab balls (3) appetizer. My 18 year old pushed away the crab sautée after eating just half and I barely made a dent in the lasagna.

Most folks don't complain about large portions or taking home doggie bags... But, here in this family resort town, most folks don't have the frige room in their hotel or rental to store all the leftovers. I would rather pay half the price for half a serving and be done with it!

This restaurant is perfect if you have a large group of big eaters. It IS NOT open all year, closing during the slow late fall/winter season

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. Your comments were very helpful. I hope my comments will help to enlighten you and other readers.
We do serve seafood- crab, lobster, shrimp and scallops among other seafood ingredients. They are very expensive. Comparing our prices to all other restaurants in the area can be unfair because most don't serve our type of faire. Pasta, burgers and pizza is comparably less. Restaurants with comparable entrees are more expensive.
Having said that, your comment about smaller portions is valid. What you may not understand is that the majority of a menu item's price is wrapped up in overhead. No matter the size of the portion, the overhead cost is still there. You pay more for your seat in a restaurant today than you do for the food. If we significantly reduced the size of a portion, it would only result in a small reduction in price. We have found that the taste and quality of our customer's food is remembered longer than the price.
Our blackened scallop appetizer is one of our most requested apps. The scallops are fresh local day-boat sea scallops. They are spiced and blackened and served with a champagne dijon cream reduction. The blackening spice is more savory than spicey and anyone complaining because they are too hot, shouldn't order blackened items on a menu. Ours are NOT hot. Our crab balls are made from the same recipe as our award winning crab cakes. Our crab lump saute is just a simple 5 oz. of Jumbo golf-ball sized crab lumps and butter. Its for the crab-lover that can't be bothered with picking a crab. The portion is adequate. I suggest the young man was not hungry after eating the free crackers and cheese and the french bread. Our seafood lasagna is designed for the big eater- as all lasagna entrees are. The sauteed seafood is placed on top of the entree so that it can be eaten along with the lasagna bite by bite. If the customer fills up, the seafood can be finished leaving the inexpensive lasagna for another day. Tradition dictates a large portion of lasagna in every restaurant.
I want you to know that I hear your comments on portion and will take them under advisement. In this day and age of higher and higher costs of living we must do our part to control our prices to our customer.

“Just a few blocks from North O.C city ,state line!”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Just beyond North Ocean City on the left side comming from O.C. lies an inconspicuous little restaurant situated in a shopping plaza. Fenwick Crabhouse is head and shoulders above any restaurant in O.C. when it come to food. Everything they make, whether Italian seafood specialties or local specialties, is spot on. The service is great and always helpful in deciding what to eat when unsure! This is must if you love Great Food!

“Good choice for seafood”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Consistently good food, especially the seafood. Not surprising, considering that they have be in a competitive beach area. Have always been favorably impressed with the servers. Get there before 6pm to beat the dinner rush.

“To Pricey...”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

The food was good but way over priced. The tables and chairs are back to back and you keep getting bumped by the waiters passing by...Tourist trap for sure...go to Charlie's Bayside next door for better food, service and beautiful view of the bay.

“It was OK”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Was visiting a friend in the area and at his suggestion we ate here, I had a crab cake with fries and grilled veggies medley, my wife had the crab stuffed pasta it was good but came out to the table sorta cold, she was content to eat it that way to avoid the hassle of sending it back. This area is extremely touristy and the prices here reflected it, good food but not a great value. Our waitress was great and did a wonderful job taking care of us. They do have early bird specials.
