Love love love the food. Will return .Was made to feel like a guess in there home. The only thing less then perfect was it was a hot night and very little breeze.

“Unique Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

Once again, we visited our favorite Italian restaurant, Anna Maria's. As usual, the food was exquisite and the service was exceptional. This was our third year and our 6th visit to this Aruban Jewel. My husband and I both enjoyed a (must order) homemade Lasagna with a beautiful layer of eggplant and their marvelous sauce, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.Without a doubt, the best we've ever tasted. Being from New York with some of the best Italian restaurants at our disposal , this is by far equal if not better than some of the best. You can taste the love and care in every bite. The owner ship is just as wonderful in the care of their guess, attending to each and every course with the special request if something is not on the menu or a dietary choice needs to be addressed. Our original reservation had to be reduced from 6 to 4 people at the last moment due to illness. This change was met with genuine concern and caring on the part of the owners. Thanks again Chris and Anna Maria! From Frank and Linda Sehn

“Excellen and Original”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

Living and growing up in NYC you are exposed to the finest dining in the world as well as some very unique dining experiences - - so I went to Aurba with the lowest of expectations for the food since it is a touristy island. Well let me just say that I was blown away by Anna -Marias. It was recommended by a fellow New Yorker and foodie so I had to try it - and trust me, it did not disappoint. From the privacy and exclusivity and remoteness of it, to the wait staff, and owner-chefs Chris and Anna Maria. But the real star wast he food. It tastes exactly what it is, home made and fresh. It's unique and non-touristy. If you are looking for something truly magical and different, stay away from the "strip" of tourist restaurants and get to this place. Every concierge desk in Aruba has it at the top of it's list and you will find out why.

“Not even Olive Garden standards”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Anna Maria's is in a private home in Noord (you can find the house on Google maps by searching for: +12° 34' 25.94", -70° 2' 12.78" )

The couple who owns the restaurant is an Italian and Aruban with Peruvian roots. Most of the dishes are Italian-inspired, with a few potentially interesting Peruvian additions.

The "restaurant" is essentially the rear patio of the couple's house. Visiting a home rather than a proper restaurant is a great idea and successfully serves up a cozy atmosphere, but once you get past the house-as-a-restaurant shtick, the actual food and experience is thoroughly inexcusable.

Now, I married into a food-worshipping Italian family and have spent years eating my way through Boston's North End, so perhaps I am a bit spoiled on Italian fare. But, the food at Anna Maria's doesn't even rise up to Olive Garden standards!

A few examples:
The seafood soup ("zuppa di mare") is basically a small assortment of tough, overcooked squid rings, shrimp and clams in a ... get this ... chicken broth. Take some Campbell's chicken noodle soup, remove the noodles, replace with the aforementioned seafood, boil on high for about five minutes, and voilà -- Zuppa di Mare.

Another example:
The ravioli with spinach and ricotta were quite small with almost no filling. The sauce (or what my mother-in-law calls "gravy") tasted like they poured a can of tomato soup (Campbell's again?) over the dish.

Yet another one:
The carbonara, a traditional Roman dish, had not a trace of an egg nor cream in the sauce. Rather, they threw some bacon bits in oil, added some spaghetti and brought it to our table with a straight face.

But above all, the Chinese-water-torture-like wait times tried even the saintliest of patience. Our appetizers took one hour to appear, and then another full hour before we got our main courses. Throughout the wait, our drinks were not refilled, bread not re-supplied and, well, it didn't exactly create a bonding experience for a hungry family with dangerously dwindling blood sugar.

At the close of our meal (we didn't dare stay for dessert), the waiter asked us how our meal was. We were truthful yet diplomatic, after which he asked us to come into the kitchen to give the owners advice on how to improve their cooking. Yes. That's right. After charging us premium prices for the privilege of eating (or rather, tasting then leaving on the plate) their food, the owners asked us for help.

Anna Maria's does one thing successfully -- it reminds us why there are trained professionals in the restaurant biz.

“Not Fast Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

Like others we had high expectations based on the reviews. The food was very good. The sauce on the penne was wonderful. The atmosphere lovely. Prices were high.
But the service was very very slow. It was an hour before we were served out entrees. Even without desert (we didn't dare), we were there 2 hours. There were two waiters waiting on 34 diners.
For my time and money, Sole Mare is a better experience.
