I went there with my two children at Christmas and found out that the spa is only for kids at least 14 years old.The sea was to cold to swim and my children were very disappointed, because really wanted to try floating in the dead sea water.
The director was so kind to let my children go to the swimmingpool of the spa after the opening hours and let them enjoy a 30 minutes "private bath".
He did something really special for us, thankyou!

We thought that the Herods Hotel was excellent and good value. The food was fantastic, the staff caring and considerate, the facilities excellent, and the position on the beach of the Dead Sea with easy access to the sand, the salt and the mud - fantastic!

I am writing this review for the spa, not the hotel, since I did not stay at the hotel but only used the spa. We were given spa entrance tickets to Herod's spa from the hotel we were staying at (Leonardo's Inn). When we handed the ticket to the spa personnel, we were treated like intruders who were trying to sneak our way into the spa. The man working the desk was incredibly rude, and refused several times to call our hotel and clear things up. I had to insist, and eventually we were granted the entrance to the spa. It didn't get much better once we got to the spa, where the man working there pretty much made us feel like idiots for asking how the spa worked...we had never done such a thing before and had no idea what it entailed. Bottom line- despite beautiful grounds, I would not recommend Herod's by their terrible staff who did not give us the time of day because we did not fit the part (not that it matters, but we are 2 Dr.s). They need to learn some manners or else get out of the service industry.

Dear Sir,
I reviewed your comments regarding your visit at the Herods Dead Sea Spa.
I regretted reading you were not satisfied with the spa Service.
I'd love to talk with you personally and apologize, this is not the impression I want to be left for you at the hotel spa.
I invite you to the spa again, plus I'd be happy to give you a sulfur pool therapy at no additional charge, for a different experience than the last.
Best Regards,
Dorit Yogev

We spent one night at the Herods late December. Apparently the hotel has recently changed ownership and was redesigned, renovated and brought up a notch, and it was quite evident in the lobby, public areas and rooms.

The modern rooms are equipped with all the amenities in the book. The bathroom has everything you could need, and view from the balcony is perfect. However it's a different story if you book a twin bedroom - the beds in twin configuration are only 90cm wide, which is something I thought I left behind when I was ten. The bathroom door is an over-styled see-through, which might be agreeable for couples, possibly, but could be a bit too intimate for friends sharing a twin room. There's actually more to this glass door, which I will get to later.

Unlike some of the other hotels in the area that are a couple of minutes walk from the Dead Sea, the Herods has its own private beach, accompanied by a fine chill-out soundtrack. Full score there.

Both breakfast and lunch were average, with nothing to be overly excited about, and didn't keep up with most of the other parameters. Service was reasonably good, both at reception and when needed in the room.

So basically the Herods is highly recommended for couples, which is probably what most of the guests indeed are. Twin bed setup is more problematic.

And there's this last little thing - our friends in another room had a little incident where the bathroom glass door fell to the floor and crashed to pieces. Hopefully someone at the Herods is looking into this to make sure that the questionable design that allows one roommate to see the other sitting on the toilet won't also set you up on a date with a first-aid kit.

We were there for 4 nights in the executive suite which is a beautiful room with a huge porch overlooking the pools and the Dead Sea front and center. The staff still needs to learn to give even better service. There were many chipped cups and plates in the dining rooms. We actually went to the table next to us to finally find a cup in good condition. The towels at the pool area were very old rough and too thin for outdoor use. We were surprised that the new hotel did not have new plush towels. The nightly entertainment was boring just singers that we're redundant. The food is adequate but not special or elegant enough.

We stayed the second week in November - the weather was perfect!
The hotel was ok - nothing out of this world, but it was nice and ticked most of the boxes!

Location - fine but a long walk from any shops
Rooms - had a nice decor and were clean, plus nice sea view
Food - great selection and good standard
Spa - was nice, and was clean
Pool - good size and nice layout
Beach - a plus as they have their own private beach - it was clean and had enough beds, showers etc.
Entertainment/lobby bar - nice decor - but pretty poor entertainment
Service - they did try so you have to give them points for this - but it is difficult anywhere in Israel to get great service
