“Cute, slightly rundown Chateau”
Reviewed September 6, 2011

We stayed at this slightly rundown, but cute chateau in beautiful Ariege. The service was friendly and helpful, but very limited in their english. The room was simple but nice, a plus was definitely the fantastic balcony with a French children's bed serving as lounge with big cusions where we enjoyed a lovely evening after our dinner at the Chateaus restaurant. The dinner was fine, again nothing spectaculair, but simple French farmers kitchen and should you go have the spear roasted pig but order your own side dish as the maceroni and cheese didn't really do it justice.
Breakfast included in the price was simple but good. Fresh fruits, yoghurts, croissants, bread, coffee, homemade jams and some regional cheeses and ham. Overall, a charming place to spend a night or two.

Stayed here with 12 friends a few years ago on a self organized bike trip.

We liked the hotel and the local area so much we are going back in June for 3 nights of our 7 day Pyrenees cycling trip. Will report back then.

We stayed at the Chateau de Beauregard for one night while travelling in France. It was very hot and so the pool was a big attraction. The Chateau was interesting but beware of the 'demi pension' option. Breakfast is not included so there is no advantage to just paying for the room and dinner separately.
We had a standard room which was very hot and when we requested a fan were told it wouldn't be needed as it cooled down at night - it didn't!!
The restaurant was lovely and we had a very good meal.
However overall the place was a bit pretentious!

The best thing about this hotel is the cleverly staged and photographed website that presents an image of French charm and beauty, however the welcome at this ' chateau ' hotel is anything but Gallic charm ……. I encountered the English madame and owner at breakfast, demonstrating her charm and interpersonal skills by broadcasting loudly to everyone in earshot - " I can't go to Spain the food makes me sick" … and " if you had lived in France for 30 years as I have you would feel the same… ! ". I thought her rudeness and arrogance summed up this conceited little place and were especially inappropriate coming from a business offering hospitality to an international clientele.

Prior to arrival and without asking us, the owner made restaurant reservations for dinner and breakfast which I thought a little presumptuous. We did however use the dinner reservation and I did enjoy a rich set dinner despite a menu board in English and French which bore little relationship to one another. Breakfast comprised primarily of mediocre produce from the local boulangerie.

A dark narrow corridor with 'bordello' style wall coverings led to our low sloped ceiling attic room which they called the 'Balzac Suite', which had a nice view out. That is more than I can say for the suite itself which comprised of chintzy drapes, synthetic floor coverings, wood grained fire doors and plentiful helpings of crude industrial scale pipe work.

Generally the hotel interior has the look of a clumsy and enthusiastic interior decorator that has confused cheap chintzy drapes with heritage and charm. This small pleasant 19th century town house has an ugly fake rustic stone building attached to one side which houses a faux rustic interior and a pretentious restaurant with an entrance that looks like a dilapidated allotment shed. There is also a dull modern building nearby that houses a spa and adds to the incongruous architectural mish mash that is Chateau de Beauregard. The trees and the ugly heating pipe work are genuine but if you are interested in authentic architecture or French charm I would recommend giving this phoney pompous place a miss.

WOW ! Unexpected surprise. Extremely welcoming and friendly staff. Our room Colette
was very spacious & beautifully furnished. Quiet location with ample parking yet only few
minutes stroll into centre of town (huge market on Saturdays) .Two dinners at Restaurant Le Autan both unforgettable, excellent service and choice. Would unhesitatingly recommend.

We booked this chateau to have a super experience. Perhaps our expectations were too high, but the price was high also. Before we came we were assured that our suite had AC etc. etc. From the moment we came we felt like they were doing us a favor by allowing us to be there. When I asked for pool towels, I was told they didn't furnish those.
When my husband asked about the water temperature int the jacuzzi, he was told that it was at standard temperature (not) and when we asked why the AC was not working, we were told that maybe it would be fixed and maybe not. Dinner was not wonderful - it seemed to be one of those cliches of having the chef out front but Jose was in the kitchen. WE LOVED the ambiance and decor and country french feeling - but we left early anyway.
