“Perfect location for a couple's vacation”

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days and don't think we could have picked a better place to relax from a busy work life. The Inn has many rooms in an old estate up on a hill overlooking Watkins Glen. It is clearly one of the best properties in the entire town. The grounds are relaxing with a pond with a fountain, a Gazebo, and huge green lawns. The breakfast was better than we would have had at home - pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee, etc. The host Maria was friendly and informative about where to go. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the building which came in handy to Skype with our kids. My only complaint was hard pillows. It is up a very steep hill so if you are coming when the roads are slippery it may be a bit scary.

Room Tip: First floor has rooms with their own bathrooms and are cheaper than top floors however the windows f...

A very nice old estate with comfortable living quarters and grounds. As with any old house expect the floors to slope. Bring your own shims for under the bed posts or you may roll out in the night. Beware there are no irons or hair dryers in the rooms. A great front porch to relax on but had obstructed views of the lake. Don't expect much out of breakfast. The food was OK but had no alternative if you didn't want the sausage or canned fruit. Other BnBs I've stayed at try to make breakfast special.

Just happened upon the Idlwilde and are so glad we did. We had a room on the thrid floor with a beautiful view of the lake and grounds. This house was laden with beautiful and well cared for period furniture and surrounded by manicured spacious lawns and gardens. If we are ever near this B&B again we will be sure to stay here. Our host, Maria, was very friendly, informative and a joy to share our morning coffee with.

Room Tip: went for the queen on 3rd floor for the view. No other people on that floor so we had the bathroom...

We were very impressed by the majestic home, period details and the surrounding grounds. We enjoyed sipping wine in the gazebo as well as on the front porch. Our host, Maria was warm, friendly and provided us with the home's history and provided lots of information with regard to the local area as well as the lakes in general. The home is immaculate in all areas, our room (#9) was spacious, quiet, had a view of the lake from all windows and had a very comfortable king sized bed. Daily breakfast consisted of a delicious full hot meal along with fresh fruit, coffee and juice, all served in the spacious dining room.
No personal food or beverages may be consumed in the home, it would be nice if one interior area was set aside to allow for a glass of wine when it is cool or wet outside.

For his birthday, I surprised my husband with a trip to the Finger Lakes for hiking and wine tasting. I chose the Idlwilde Inn because of its location - in Watkins Glen, so we could visit wineries on both the east and west sides of Seneca Lake. The home and our room were immaculate. We loved the view from the deck off our room (room 10) and hanging out on the front porch. Maria and John were both pleasant and accomodating. Maria provided excellent recommendations for which wineries to visit. Breakfast was delicious. Maria, in particular, cares passionately about this home and wants guests to respect it. My husband and I respect this, but I suspect that some prior reviewers found her persnickety and thus unfairly have labeled her inflexible.

This is such a beautiful place we come back every year. Our favorite room is the Master Suite it is immaculate and huge with the perfect porch and a deck with an amazing view. The owners, Maria and John are gracious, kind and friendly and we enjoy seeing them as much as we do our stay! The house is a gem and just stepping through the door is relaxing. The deep front porch is a great place to sit and relax enjoying the peaceful well kept grounds. Breakfast was delicious of course. We look forward to our next visit! The location is convenient to the village, restaurants and the state park.

Weve stayed here every year for the past 7 or so and love it. It's such a beautiful place and makes you feel the grandeur of what it must have been back in the day. Last stay we were in the carriage house... But I definitely prefer the main house. Best room is the one with the wraparound porch and updated bathroom.
