“Awesome water falls...great hike!”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

Took a family of six to this state park Columbus Day Weekend. Mostly teenagers with my husband and I, but my youngest is 9 years old. Great hike...mostly up with many stairs. Not taxing though, it is rather gradual. There is lots to see, many areas with benches or rocks to sit on. Amazing water falls and beautiful rock formations. You can start at the bottom or the top and if you don't want to make the return hike there is a bus for $3.00 a person to take you back to your car. Beware if it is a busy weekend you may not make it on the bus and have to wait for another bus...up 15-30 minutes. We decided to just walk back down...we started at the bottom. This way the return trip is at least down hill. Allow at least 2-3 hours. Bathrooms at the bottom and the top, with snack bars/gift shop. Cost is $8.00 a car load. Strollers are not feasible. If you take a toddler they should be able to walk on their own or you will be exhausted carrying them. Well worth the trip...especially since you are in wine country. Stop to visit a winery while you are there. Seneca lake is beautiful and filled with wineries. Beautiful fall views on the lake with grapevines everywhere.

“Watkins Glen”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Hiking the stone stairs to the top of Watkins Glen was a spectacular sight. It should be a wonder of the world, the series of waterfalls running down through incredible rock formations is truly breathtaking... this place should be on everyones bucket list !!! It was nothing like we ever expected, but wildly surpassed any expectations.

“Unbelievably beautiful”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Chances are you've never done anything close to this. There are about 800 stone steps plus some narrow passages to navigate. There are places where it is always wet and slippery. I would not attempt this after a heavy rain or when there is a lot of water in the creek. A child will need constant supervision. During the summer a bus will take you to or from the top or the bottom at a cost of $3.00 per person. There is a fee of $8.00 to take your car in but you can park nearby for free and walk in. You will be rewarded by sights and sounds like you have never seen.

“Nature at it's best”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

Been their in Mid September. The weather was just right (although it started to rain mildly at the end). It wasn't a holiday, so the place was quiet. You can hear the waterfalls and the birds. The route takes about 1 hour from one entrance to the main entrance. There are 750 steps (!) in the route, which includes 180 steps at the end (they call it "Jacob's ladder").
One word of caution: it is not a circular route. There are two options: going one-way and then take a shuttle back to the parking lot (check beforehand if the shuttle works. It didn't work when we visited). The second Option is to go back in the same route.
The route from the main entrance is going down the stairs.
We walked from the other entrance, up the stairs, reached the "ladder" and headed back :-)
