“Great find our first night in Mirepoix”
Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

We arrived in town tired and hungry and found several recommended restaurants closed or on holiday. Several open ones were not acceptable for one or another reason. Finally we found a gem. Food was amazing and service excellent. The menu included pork which my wife is not crazy about. They cheerfully switched her main course to lamb. In short it was a perfect ending to a long, fun day

“A wonderful Sunday lunch”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

My husband and I have been to the restaurant Le Ciel D'or for lunch on Fridays having the menu of the day and enjoying every mouthful, going for Sunday lunch and the Menu Degustation Unique was even better.
At €57 (does not include wine) it may sound expensive and you can certainly find cheaper, but the menu is five courses including an Amuse Bouche and indeed a pre-Amuse Bouche so, from our point of view it is value for money. The surroundings are beautiful in this small chateau enclosed in the middle of the tiny medieval town of Mirepoix. The staff attentive and polite. The Dutch chef Rogier Van Den Biggelaar, who speaks perfect English, should be proud of himself. He could be on his way to a Michelin star. Not only doesn't he come out into the restaurant to say hello but if one asks about food and the staff do not know they go and ask and he will come out to explain every detail.
The lobster for starters was perfect, the fish course with sauce caviar superb. It carried on being delicious with the Filet de Poulet de Bresse in a butter and truffle sauce. The plate of cheese was followed by a chocolate ravioli (better than it sounds) finished the meal perfectly and I just about had room for the Petit four! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

“Wonderful stimulating food”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

After traipsing around Mirepoix trying to find the restaurant, it was with some relief that we eventually found ourselves outside the candle lit courtyard of the magnificent 18th century Relais Royal hotel/restaurant and realised that we could actually see the car we had parked 1 hour earlier now a mere 1 minute away!
We had been told that this was a stuffy old fashioned French restaurant, but it is nothing of the kind. It is a stylish and modern restaurant where wonderful stimulating food is served by young relaxed professional waiters in a discrete and romantic setting. Quite the opposite of what we had expected.
The Menu Dégustation (Which at €57.50 per head turns out to be very reasonable) comprised of 6 well-presented and sometimes innovative courses. Highlights include a fun Amuse-Bouche, a spine tingling Sorbet aux Tomates, Flan aux Herbes and an inventive Purée de choux Fleur.
We left happy and full and quite relieved that our car was now only a short walk away. Thank you.

“Excellent value.”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

My husband and I usually eat here on Friday having the Menu d'Jour for 22.50 euro pp with wine and coffee inclusive. It is a set menu so no choice but we feel it is really good value. The restaurant is in a lovely chateau in the middle of the medieval town of Mirepoix. It is very smart with white table clothes in beautiful surroundings and has attentive staff. When (if) we ever have some sunshine there is a pretty courtyard where you can eat outside.

So far I cannot fault this restaurant. In fact, breaking the Friday rule, we enjoyed a very nice meal here with friends last Sunday lunch time so perhaps next time we will even try dinner.

We went for the tasting menu along with wine tasting.

Food and wine simply exquisite.

Pricy but definitely worth it as a treat. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
