We spent one night here having emailed on spec to see if we could get a discount. The views are spectacular on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the QENP and the lodge has had no expense spared so some facilities are certainly top of the market. The bathrooms in particular are stunning and the rooms enormous. However the place is somewhat surreal. The were two other guests when we were there and they had been upgraded by a tour operator at the last minute. They said they had not seen any guests during their stay. The lodge is apparently owned by a Ugandan civil servant from Kampala who seemed to have thrown vast amounts of money at the buildings but not thought about the rest. For example, the staff were willing but clearly had had little training. When we turned up the menu was hastily scrawled on torn half a page ripped out of a school exercise book, the torches in the room did not work, and the replacements lasted a few minutes only, there were no lights on the steep steps down to the rooms (they did exist but weren't switched on which was quite dangerous). The lodge's ringtone which was incessant during the evening (or maybe the phone was never answered) was a muezzin call to prayer. We wondered if they are aiming at a different market from western tourists. Still the location has to be one of the best we have ever seen in Africa, and it could be a tremendous lodge with a few changes...
