“Best view of our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

Our route to the Northern part of QENP took us to Kyambura Game Lodge. The view towards Mount Rwenzori was spectacular, even though it teased us throughout our stay. Even just sat on the various areas of the main bomb and our room veranda we must have seen 20 plus species of birds. Waterbuck, kob and elephants roam the ground directly below the lodge and you get especially good sightings on the road to the pay itself.
The room was good, hot showers (not essential, but enjoyable nonetheless), and mousebirds aplenty!
Food was again of a good standard, I like the concept of ordering a meal in advanced as it means you are not waiting long periods for it to arrive. Important when you have an early start.
Had a good walk up to the crater lakes and back through the village. Well worth the steep climb!
The park had lots of kob, and gave an early morning glimpse of four lions before they headed to the bush for cover.
The Kazinga channel boat cruise was good, plenty of hippo and buffalo, and it is inundated with pied kingfishers. Only one elephant anyone cats, but there was plenty of evidence that they may have been down had the day been hotter.

Stunning views, delicious food and a very attentive staff. Went in September the off season and there were only four of us there so we nearly had the whole place to ourself! Take the village walk to see the community.

Kyambura Game Lodge is a hotel of separate rooms with a truly ecological spirit and atmosphere, it is wonderful to enjoy the excellent home-produced food in this beautiful peaceful setting overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Nacional Park. Under the very attentive professional direction of Albert, he and his staff do everything to give their guests a unique experience.

The food is wonderful (although you need to be patient with it!) and the staff love working there and are so kind. They make good boxed lunches for your safaris. We were sad to leave! Queen Elizabeth park is a bit of a quiet place (game -wise) compared to other parks.

STUNNING. This lodge was located up on a hill over looking Queen Elizabeth National Park for as far as you can see. Every room overlooked the valley which had sunsets in the distance. Hammocks surround the beautiful pool and the handcrafted artwork situated around this lodge was lovely. Rooms felt very clean and had the best mosquito nets over the beds we had seen. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Our room was beautiful, clean, spacious and comfortable. There was a couch on the front deck so you could enjoy the tranquil view. We saw elephants in the valley below us. All kinds of lovely details in the interior of the room made it truly unique. The staff worked hard to please us. The main lodge, where our meals were served, was also spacious and well-appointed. We did not want to leave this beautiful lodge.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

Based on the review from Lonely Planet, I was expecting a 5 star lodge, however, I was surprised by the reality of it being only 3 stars.

The lodge itself borders between rustic and rundown. While very clean, you will certainly notice it is an older property. Some things, like the decorations, seem to be falling apart, but maybe for some, that is part of the rustic charm.

I was very surprised at the excessive amount of insects and bugs (I have actually never seen so many in one place). When walking to my hut after dinner, I would have to cover my head and face upon entering my hut as the amount of bugs loitering under the bright front porch light was out of control. There were also a fair amount of bugs in my room, although I did have a mosquito net covering my bed.

Of note, the lodge is not in the park, but is a 20 - 30 minute drive away. It does overlook the park, but is close to the main highway so you get a lot of the traffic noise, even though you are technically in the middle of nowhere.

Having said all of this, the service was excellent. The staff went out of their way to cater to my every need, even though I was the only guest at the lodge. (Note that there were 8 huts/cottages but 4 burnt down, so now there are only 4 remaining. Max number of guests at any time is only 8). In addition, the food was excellent with a three-course dinner. The portions were so large that I actually asked the chef to reduce the size. Every meal, including the packed lunch, was delicious.

As a side note, if you stay 2 nights at the lodge, the laundry is free. I did have laundry done, and it smelled great and was well pressed.
