Our first OMG moment at Ihamba, was looking back along the path from our Banda to the car-park, and seeing the waitress carrying our luggage on her head! And I mean a full-size suitcase, with no hands! Amazing.
Ihamba continued to amaze. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the lizards (who live inside the rooms) don't bite, the beds are wide and comfortable, the mosquito nets do the job. The view from the balcony is wonderful, a blue lake with flocks of birds, young cattle, and wilder animals wandering past. The view to the rear is better, snow-capped mountains and savannah, with rain-forest inbetween.
The boat trip is wonderful, as is the safari in the park. Lots of wildlife, big and small. We saw a Hyena carry off a young Warthog, then saw 5 lionesses licking their lips amongst a pile of fresh bones.
The drive from the boat-trip on Lake Edward back to the hotel, via the water-craters, is unforgetable. These huge natural holes are viewed from the lip of the crater, and each one is better than the last. Some have unique flora, others are full of crystal blue water. Various wild animals cross the road in front of you, and the view of the Rift Valley is epic. Make sure you ask your driver to take this route.
Back at the hotel, the food is great & plentiful, beer cheap and cold, staff warm & friendly, all-in-all everything you need. Nothing in Uganda is new, pristine, or posh; but if it works, it is sufficient. The place was clean, comfortable, sufficient. I am going back in April 2013.

Room Tip: This is a safari, don't be fussy. If you think your room is a bit rough, go and see how the vill...

We had a wonderful time in Queen Elizabeth Park, we stayed in Ihamba Lodge, kind, truepenny, virtuous staff provide scrupulous service, and delicious food, just like staying home.
Monday~the manager of Ihamba Lodge, lead us to find the lions and various animals. We are surprise for the people and animals can get along with harmonious. We can smell peaceful there.
Monday also told us lots of information of the west local people. He told us their primitive belief of the local people, we are surprise they learn from the nature and get lots of truth. Great thanks to him.
we are surprise for all the foods are delicious in Ihamba, the fruit, the soup, the rice, the coffee, even a piece of bread and lunch box. That is amazing!

Note: The lodge power generation using diesel generator, they will shut off the light at 11PM, hope us to keep early hours, cause animals act early, but when they knew we really need the light ,they just turned on the light for us, incredible!

Anyway ,all of us have a wonderful and memorable time in this trip.

Room Tip: the room facing the Lake Gorge is the best choice.

There are things done right here, but there is much lacking. "A" for effort, as Ihamba has lots of potential. However, the current reality needs improvement.

The web site photos make it appear to have a certain polish which is not evident in reality.
The staff were nice and well-meaning but sometimes seemed lost and purposeless. The cavernous main lodge lacks a cozy feel, in both the dining and sitting areas. The staff's small dormitory room is in the main lodge, separated only by curtained walls from the public areas.

The tour organizer had requested a particular cottage for my 2 night stay, but it was available only for the second night. The first night was ok--I was in a cottage, divided into two rooms. The second night, I was in a large single cottage, with a porch facing the lake. You walk through a large bathroom, and then enter the bedroom.
This is where I earned to always keep my luggage closed for the remainder of this trip to East Africa. The next morning I awoke to the sight of thousands (no exaggeration) of small dead flies all over the floor, the bathtub, my luggage, the bathroom towels, the shelves. Ewwww!! Where did they come from? All the doors were closed, and the windows are screened. Did they come out of a faucet or drain? None of the staff knew, but they all assured me, "They are called lake flies; they are harmless." Well, that was a bit comforting. But that was the morning when my key woud not open the front door of the cottage, so there was no escaping the insect burial ground. (I finally was able to escape after standing on the back deck--which does not have an exit gate--and shouting at the fellow who was cleaning the pool "Help!")

Althought the cottage was fairly recently built, or remodeled, faucets were already coming away from the walls in the bathroom. There are NO fans, although they are needed--even with open (screened) windows, it was stuffy .

Ihamba could be very good, but first, it needs committed, purposeful , motivated management. The company that owns Cafe Pap just took it over. I'm not sure that is a good thing, based on my experience at Cafe Pap in Kampala's Garden City Mall, where the coffee is delicious but the service consisted of four disinterested staff, all on their mobile phones while customers waited. I truly hope the company can do better at managing Ihamba.

My wife and I really enjoyed our two day stay at Ihambra Safari Lodge. At night, hippos came up from the lake to graze outside the main area. As the night wore on, we could hear the munching getting closer until a couple hippos were almost next to the deck in the back of our cabana. Very exciting! The food was generally good, although they seemed to always try to overfeed us at breakfast. We did not want eggs and we kept getting served a ridiculous amount of eggs. Having too many eggs, however, is not much of a complaint. One of us got very bad hives both night and we are fairly positive it was an allergic reaction to whatever was used to clean the sheets. We never mentioned to management because we didn't figure it out until the last day. Only one of us was affected though. The lodges and location were satisfactory.

This small lodge is in a perfect location right on the shores of Lake George in Queen Elizabeth National park. The public areas have the WOW factor and the cottages are all you could possibly need. The staff are only too keen to help. My husband's dietary requirements (gluten free) were accommodated at every meal. We even had a meal under the stars! The lodge is under new management and the staff are working hard to fix any problems from the previous owners. This lodge has great potential.

This lodge was a nice surprise: the location is good (with beautiful view on a lake and less than half an hour by car from the game drive area), the decoration in the restaurant and in the cottages is simple but very stylish, the staff and the manager were friendly and very helpful (they organised all the activities we wanted to do), the food is ok, the swimming pool is small but nice. Some minor details can be improved but the lodge is new and they are working to improve it. Recommended!
