The women who run this hotel are wonderful. Rooms are pleasant and the coffee is fantastic. Most hotels in Zanzibar are quite expensive for what you get but this is good value for money and very clean. Breakfast on the roof is a highlight of the day

We loved this place, because it was so charmingly decorated. The rooms were large and comfortable with mosquito nets on the beds. As everyone else has said, breakfast on the rooftop is a highlight. You could spend hours up there. We also ate downstairs at their restaurant, and of course, the coffee is excellent! The nightguard is always on the lookout for you, and keeps the light on outside if you're out. He also recommended places for us to eat dinner which were nearby. One drawback is that they accept cash only, and carrying around cash (additionally with all bills later than 2006!) can be a pain in Tanzania.

Room Tip: Check the website and find a room which has the configuration you are looking for, i.e. number of be...

In the middle old city the Taxi cannot reach this hotel don't have a lot of luggages we must to carry own luggages just to Zanzibar Coffee House about 150 meters by foot. This hotel zanzibarite style with friendly enjoyed staff we meet Philipina very helpful us, our room Excelsa with twin beds is clean comfortable with separate bathroom but private clean and biggest. Good taste and smell of coffee, good breakfast (included in the cost of room) served on the roof top, we can take a lunch too. Quiet place to stay for the night. I loved to relaxe on the roof terrace to watch the sunset, hear the city sound and the chant of the muezzin is very special memories for me. This old city Stonetown is a labyrinth of walkways for explore slowly and meet the zanzibarite people every day when you go home to Zanzibar Coffee House. We enjoyed so much to stay there I will recommended this hotel and if i come back in Tanzania i will stay there again Oh yes.

Room Tip: Excelsa if you want twin beds.

I stayed two nights at the Zanzibar Coffee House and thought it was adorable, authentic and affordable! My room (Cappuccino) was clean and decorated in the traditional Arabian/Swahili style and my bathroom was located upstairs in an attached suite - amazing. I loved having their delicious breakfast on the roof terrace. The roof terrace was also an enjoyable spot to drink a beer at night - the perfect place to watch the sun go down behind the rooftops. The coffee shop (great coffee!) on the first floor closed at a reasonable hour so it was quiet during the night. The Zanzibar Coffee House is located inside Stone Town's labyrinth of walkways so it's in a great location. During my two day stay I did a spice tour and a walking city tour which I arranged through the Zanzibar Coffee House. Both were very enjoyable and I learned a lot about Zanzibar's history. I would definitely stay here again! Thank You! Birgit

I was recommended this B&B by friends. Really enjoyed my 2 night stay. Bathroom was separate but private and nice and clean. The view from the rooftop, where a very good breakfast is served, is amazing. The staff exttremely helpful and welcoming.
Location is perfect for exploring Stone Town. Free wifi Works well.
The coffee, cakes and sandwiches served in the Coffee House in the ground floor are all very good.

Sadly we only popped in for one night before flying off early in the morning so we missed the breakfast, but staff were accommodating enough to make us a coffee and croissant before we left.
We stayed in Espresso which was perfectly comfortable and cosy.

The building has a very comfortable homely, traditional feel with a lovely little rooftop tea house which would be great for an afternoon tea stop with pretty town views.
There is no restaurant for dinner but the cafe has a wonderful selection of cakes and paninis etc.

The whole place has a wonderful smell of freshly ground coffee throughout.

Great for a quiet stop over, but without all the usual trimmings of a hotel.

Room Tip: Espresso is the cheapest and smallest room that has it's own private bathroom located outside in...

We stayed a few nights in the coffee house before travelling to the beach. On return to Stone Town we stayed at the coffee house again for a couple of nights because we enjoyed it so much. I would normally try somewhere new so that says it all. The staff are extremely friendly - always greeting us and chatting with us - and they were always very helpful in the case of a problem or question. The night watchman is also very friendly and very concerned for the safety and security of the guests - often ensuring that our bags were carried in front of us and that we knew where we were going. Contrary to an older review we found the staff very open to bartering and we did get quite a lot of money off our room given that it was low season. This was honoured the second time we stayed as well. The room was very clean and comfortable and although our bathroom was separate it was very clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The breakfast (which is included in the cost of the room) is very good and there is a great view from the roof terrace where it is served. I strongly recommend the coffee house as a place to stay.

Room Tip: Excelsa is very nice and has twin beds which is ideal if you are travelling with a friend as we were...
