“Amazing hotel in the heart of Stone Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

What a beautiful hotel! The hotel is decorated very nicely without being tacky. We had Arabica room on the top floor which offered great views over the town. We were on a half board package and we had dinner which my wife had the tuna and I had the steak which was fantastic. Staff were great and helped with directions for walking and even packed a breakfast for us when we had an early day. A nice and quiet hotel in the heart of historic Stone Town!

I stayed in Zanzibar palace during February 2014 and was very impressed. Even though I was delayed for more than 1h at the airport the ordered taxi pickup was still waiting for me.

When arriving the check-in process was very simple and you are offered a nice drink while you check-in.

The room was very nice, I had already looked at their homepage to select the room that I would like since they all are different.

The staff are very helpful if you have questions or need directions. The hotel can be a bit hard to find while you walk in stone town which can be one improvement idea.

Strongly recommend this place, it's a bit pricy but worth it in my opinion.

Room Tip: Make sure you pick a room to your liking, they are all different.

The so called "city view" hotel has only one room with a terrace. Our room had a balcony which was only 1 meter away from the adjacent old building. That of course meant that all we saw from the window was the windows of that building. Also, the toilet in the room is only seperated by a half wall (no door) from the sleeping area and to let any light in the room, one must accept being seen by the inhabitants of the building across. Very very disappointing.

We arrived late in the evening after two weeks on safari and a delayed flight from Dar Es Salam. We were the only guests in this beautiful 9 room former palace and were upgraded to the top floor Sultana Suite. Friendly, helpful staff and beautiful accommodation. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Convenient to everything!

Like most places in Stonetwon, the Zanzibar Palace Hotel is in an unnamed side street; it is well worth the finding, as once inside Frans, Robert & mark make you feel most welcome. Built into a traditional palace, offers an interesting design which is enhanced by the characterful furnishings. Room was well equipped and importantly had efficient aircon. Restaurant is small and food is excellent. Would definitely return

This hotel was once an Arab traders home, which is represented in all the rooms - very attractive fittings and furniture. Be aware there is no lift (elevator!) so you have to use some pretty unusual stairs to get to 1st and 2nd floors.
It is situated in the middle of Stone Town, great location. One can walk around the narrow streets and down to the waterfront safely with friendly inhabitants and many bazaar type shops.
Breakfast was varied and good. Their welcome drink fabulous!

Room Tip: Lower is better if you are not fit

After driving through narrow lanes, you come across a somewhat ordinary carved door. BUT, once you open that door what a entrance experience. From the antique furnishings, carved picture frames and the most reflective mirror we've ever seen, it sends you back in time. Then, when you enter your suite, again that "wow" factor comes in. The brass bed, wooden furniture, the sunken bath all add to the exotic atmosphere that Stonetown offers its visitors. The staff welcome you and immediately you feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble. If you tell them what you would like to see, they give you easy directions, maps etc to get you there safely. The Palace is within easy walking distance of most eateries, and the markets are just around the corner. It was a pleasure staying there and highly recommend it to all travellers. oh and don't forget to look inside the box near your bed :)

Room Tip: If you have breathing problems or are elderly ask for a room on the 1st level as the stairs are a bi...
