Lovely room and very helpful and friendly staff. We were allowed to check into the room early without any question as it was available. The location was really good for wandering around Stone Town. Hoping to be able to return to Zanzibar palace at some point in the future.

I was impressed with the set up, cleanliness. It feels very comfortable the moment you walk in the hotel.
I still can smell the room's fragrance in my mind.
A walking distance from the port and everywhere in town.
The service was good for the price. Friendly & helpful staff. However, there's a lot of room to improve in their service skills.

Highly recommended for the entire stay in Zanzibar.

I stayed 24 hours in Zanzibar, and by chance I selected Zanzibar Palace Hotel! And I'm so pleased - friendly staff, excellent service, charming rooms, peace and quiet, delicious food in the restaurant. I'll be more than happy to come back! And I have a lovely massage!

Wonderful blend of an the charm of an old building well kept. Worn, steep stairs require good legs, especially on the upper floors. This is either a charming experience or an inconvenience, depending on your perspective.
Owners and staff were warm, providing just the right balance: relaxed, accommodating service without formality or over-the-top luxury. Every room is unique, with furniture picked to set just the right atmosphere.
Food at every meal was wonderful! It was tempting to not go out and explore the many local bistros and restaurants.
Pssst! Don't tell anyone about this treasure!

Room Tip: Be sure to check which floor you are on. If you are not fit to handle steep stairs this may not be...

great building and location, and very friendly staff at restaurant and reception -- at least in the daytime. the rooms are uniquely decorated and clean, and they have a safe in the closet, which i do suggest you use (hint hint).

Room Tip: the higher the room, the nicer the view.

We stayed for two nights recently in the Dunia suite on the top floor. We had a large room with the high king sized bed as shown in the hotel's photos and the bathroom facilities were one floor up on the roof level which was unusual, but fun. If you’re not up for an adventure don’t take rooms on the top floors because the stairs are steep, but the climb is well worth it. We had great views from the top floor of the sunrise and sunset. We also enjoyed eating in the restaurant and thought the food was excellent. Equivalent to any fine restaurant in the US. We also had the jumbo prawns for dinner and they were very tasty. We had breakfast and lunch there as well. The staff were all very helpful and they picked us up and dropped us off at the airport and also arranged a tour of Stonetown.
We also ate at Emerson Spice for dinner since they have a roof top restaurant. We enjoyed the atmosphere, but the food at the Zanzibar Palace was even better. I cannot understand why someone would give this place a poor review. We would certainly return if we make it Stonetown again. Thanks Robert and Lizzy for your quick responses to our emails and your helpful service when we visited!!

We stayed 1 night in a room on the top floor with no lift. I am 70 and it was a long climb! We ate dinner in the hotel which was poor and we expected better for US$200 for 2 people. Probably why we were the only two eating there! The fish was very dry and almost inedible. The building itself is very atmospheric and an old trader's house and the Dutch manager was most helpful.

Room Tip: Toilet without any curtain was in same room as bed so no privacy.
