“Perfect choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Stayed two weeks at this well run small hotel, ideal for the independent traveller; a much better choice than the larger hotels favoured by package holidays. Rooms were nicely decorated and the whole place was kept scrupulously clean by the well trained, pleasant and helpful staff. If you want single occupancy this is available at reasonable rates. The terrace has a sea and rooftop view that rivals nearby expensive hotels and is a delightful spot both to start the day with an excellent breakfast and to relax later. The hotel is in the heart of the old town, where people live and work, so expect some of the hubbub of the streets and courtyards to drift up to your window; it's part of the atmosphere.Lisette and Lisenka are very welcoming and unfailingly helpful with any information and advice you might need. Look no further - this is the place to stay in Stone Town.

After a safari in Ruaha, we spent 2 nights at Clove Hotel in Zanzibar. The place is nicely situated, with a view on the ocean from the rooftop terrace where one can relax in the breeze. There is some noise from the back road, but nothing to prevent you from sleeping. The staff is friendly and helpfull. The beds are confortable, the rooms are equipped with a fan and a mosquito net. I would recommend this place.

We're just back from our first visit to Tanzania, 4 days of which we spent on Zanzibar. Clove House was recommended to us by a colleague and for the 2 nights we spent there it was perfect. Super central location for all sight-seeing visits (just next to the House of Wonders) and just near the harbour for island visit to the tortoises. We especially appreciated the friendliness of Lisette who couldn't be more helpful in organising our Spice Tour & our boat trip to the Tortoise Island and taxi to airport. We loved also the Monsoon restaurant, very close, where we could eat superbe Swahili food in lovely surroundings. Only minor thing was the lack of air in the room - very hot at night ;-) The restaurant on the rooftop is lovely with beautiful views over the ocean - a moment of calm at the end of the day in a very busy little town! Thankyou for your welcome!

Room Tip: We were a family of four and we had one of the family rooms at $115/night which is 2 rooms joined t...

We stayed for several days at the Clove Hotel. It is nicely situated and has all the necessary. Very helpful and friendly staff. It is not a Hilton, but price quality is one of the best in Stone Town as far as I can see. I would go there again.

Friendly hotel, good central location. Very pleasant verandah/lounge for breakfast and a beer. I stayed 2 nights. The room was at the back, no view and some noise from the street below but not too late. But comfortable. Plumbing could do with some updating but it worked.

We stayed in clove hotel last January. It is a nice small hotel with a very cosy roof terrasse with view over the sea and roof-tops . We enjoyed relaxing at the terrace after walking in the town.
There is also wifi on the terrace.

It is a quiet hotel, with a very friendly staff.

We stayed here for for nights ( two nights when we arrive Stone town and two nights when we came back from Paje beach). Even the room which we stayed is in the backside of Clove building and has no view to see but it is OK. Room is clean ,bed size is big ( may be too big and more than enough for 2 people). There 're 2 fans in the room one is ceiling fan and another one is standalone which we think it's good. The owner (I guess) Lisenka and her staff ( Geoge) is very kind and helpful always provided a good services and advise. We would like to say thank you for mobile phone which she allowed us to contact with other person without charge( just local call).
Breakfast on the roof top here is very good even there is just an egg ( any style you like) bread and fruit and coffee/tea but it is very convenience and relax. We like the trust and respect that Lisenka give to her guest. You can get any soft drink / beer or even bottle of wind from refrigeration or from the shelf and you just wrote the thing that you got into small note book which mentioned your room number.
The location of the hotel is good as it is near Forodhani night market. It take 1-2 minute walk from Clove hotel to there. We also had a dinner at Forodhani every night as it cheap and good taste.
If we gonna stayed in Stone Town again, we still gonna chose this hotel...........
