We loved the Dhow Palace, as each room is very individual.
We found our room exceptionally clean, and comfortable. The hotel is right downtown, so within walking distance to all attractions. We took a city walking tour that helped us get our bearings. Stone Town is really quaint with many great buildings. Look out for as many unique doors as you can find. Some are really detailed. We found the city easy to get around in and safe. Although Dhow Palace is dry, you can find beverages across the lane at Africa House.
Again, wonderful staff.

Room Tip: There isn't an elevator, so keep that in mind. Most rooms don't really have a view, as they...

This hotel is in the heart of Stonetown. Easy walk from the ferry, right by the main strip of shops, cafe's, historical sites and more.

Very friendly staff, wonderful rooms filled with Zanzibar wood crafts. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are bigger then one couple really needs. Each room if unique, so if you get the chance and there are a few open, take a look around for yourself and see what you like. The pool is clean, and if staying in Stonetown for a few days, the pool will be a wonderful reprieve from the hot sun.

The breakfast buffet is better then most you will get in Zanzibar, but there is no alcohol served here. For breakfast or anytime of the day. So you will just have to go out on the town.

A bit more expensive then the average hotel, but if you are looking for a hotel with charm and character, this is where to go.

Room Tip: Take a look at the rooms if you get the chance. Each is slightly unique.

This hotel was a special part of our round the world vacation experience and it did not disappoint. We Chose the presidential suite, located on the third floor (stairs only), consisting of an elegant sitting room with small balcony overlooking the inner courtyard and a wonderful bedroom with its own balcony. Both rooms were decorated in tasteful period antiques. It was a mix of old world ambience and modern convenience since it was well-air conditioned (a necessity for Zanzibar) with a spacious bathroom. The courtyard held a clean, cool inviting pool; I do not usually use hotel pools but this one was excellent. Staff are courteous and helpful. Breakfast was good. No alcohol is permitted.
Great place.

Room Tip: Rooms are all different so ask about them.

We stayed outside Stonetown on arrival in a dump of a hotel that cost the same as this character hotel right in the centre. Very polite friendly staff. Lots of interesting antiques and art. Great location. Excellent rooms which could easily fit a family. Highly recommended.

Very well located for walking around Stone Town. Looks a little dated at first glance but it is part of the charm of this traditional African style hotel. Top floor rooms are a bit of a climb up steep stairs but probably the quietest away from the street below. Pool is in a strange location right in the middle of the main thoroughfare but this is a city centre location.
Alcohol is not available here but short walk to other hotels and restaurants that do if you want it. You will probably be woken early by the local mosque calling the faithful to prayer but this is to be expected in any Muslim country.
Trip to see the Red Colobus monkeys in the forest is worthwhile.

My husband and I stayed here as part of a group tour safari. This hotel had a new portion and an older portion. We stayed in the old portion and it truly felt like we were staying in a palace - albeit an older palace without necessarily having all the modern conveniences. For some reason our room had three beds and yet each was only a double. The air conditioning only seemed to refridgerate the area immediately surrounding it. The bathrooms were large but then again not modern. We found the place quiet at night and therefore got a good nights sleep. The hotel is dry but we went across the street to the Africa House for drinks in their wonderful bar overlooking the harbour. We ate dinner out of the hotel as well although the breakfast and two lunches we had at the hotel were good.

Room Tip: Old section if you want character, new if you want more modern convenience.
