I stayed in the Jambo guest house last summer with two other friends. We had been volunteering in Tanzania and were now doing some travelling. The guest house was a great little find, we had read about it in the lonely planet guide and noticed that other guest houses where cheaper but after looking at rooms in other guest houses and listening to our taxi driver about the areas, we checked in to the jambo. The rooms are clean and room 6( i think) has air con, so we had a great nights sleep. It only has about 8 rooms and there are two bathrooms which were clean and had warm water (which had become such a luxury at this stage). Breakfast was good, choice of eggs and loads of fruit. The location was ok for us, we enjoyed negotiating the narrow streets of stone town and exploring the town. Great place to meet other travellers aswel. They can also organise transfers (via dala dala) to the beaches at a reasonable price. Has a laundry service aswel which we made use of, prices weren't bad. For the price you pay, this guest house is great, can't fault it at all, highly recommend it.

The male at reception was very rude and unhelpful. When we changed our mind about staying there, he asked for money and became very angry and agressive, blocking the entrance. We paid him what he wanted but still he followed us to our next hotel and had to be escorted out. Stay Away.

ATTENTION: There is another rating here, which says there are ocean view rooms but this Hostel is NOT by the beach but in the middle of Stone Town!!!!

PLUS:
- Cheap
- Good cheap restaurant right out front
- Inhouse travel agent (nice and cheap one)

MINUS:
- small, hot, stuffy rooms
- Shared bathroom facilities are not so very clean and only one bathroom for all rooms
- horrible breakfast
- not the best location in town
