We had a fine stay at the Zanzibar Serena Inn. Our room was a bit small, and the bathroom and shower were too. The lighting wasn't great either. But the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the pool was fabulous. The restaurant land the location of the hotel was great too. A nice accommodation in Stone Town.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor by reception are a bit noisy.

We enjoyed a 1 night stay at Serena Inn and the service was very good. We got a 2-bedroom suite and the rooms were large and clean. I didn't care for the shower which was tiny, and the shower curtain kept sticking to me as I was turning around to shower. Our friends ended up in the room right next to reception. The room was tiny, and noisy. They asked to be moved to another room, and the manager took care of it, no problem.
The pool was divine, and it looked out onto the Indian ocean, so during sunset, it was quite romantic. Breakfast was included as part of our package, and they had a wide variety of food, and it was tasty. The only complaint I would have is that I ordered waffles and it took 25 minutes for the food to come out. We were running a bit tight on time, otherwise, I likely wouldn't have been bothered.
Overall, a good stay. I wish we had 1 more night there.

Stayed here only one night, alas, prior to heading to the coast. Really wish we had stayed in Stonetown longer. The hotel is wonderful- we had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea, which I highly recommend- perfect place to watch the dhows sneak by whilst sipping wine or swinging on the hammock. The hotel also provided evening entertainment (Musical Cultural CLub- great Swahili music!) for sundowners. Good restaurants close by (excellent Ethiopian!) We also had the hotel arrange a guide for us, which I very highly recommend- otherwise you really miss the rich history and symbolism of the architecture and just how multi-cultural and vibrant the city is. A gem of a hotel!

Been here 2 weeks with one remaining and will be sad to leave. The hotel has a fabulous old colonial feel to it with huge open swathes to the building. Despite that the numerous very professional security guards give you a great feeling of security around the place. The staff and the security guards are all very genuinely friendly with an amazing "large as life" concierge, that give you a real feeling that they are really pleased to help. I had a couple of minor issues in my room and within minutes of mentioning it too reception, maintenance was there to rectify the problems. It get a little more crowded over the weekend but mid week it is so calm and soothing with just the sound of the sea to add to the charm. Breakfast is superb as you would expect from a Serena hotel but the restaurant menu was a little restrictive. Food in the bar was excellent and one of the best fish and chips that I have ever tasted. The addition of a fitness centre would make this hotel as good as it gets and it is more or less perfect now.

Room Tip: I think almost all of the rooms have a great sea view. The rooms directly facing the sea have the su...

I stayed here for just one night on the way to a resort on the other side of the island and wished I had booked for more nights. The Inn is beautiful. The décor is really lovely, the room I had was sensational - large with a balcony overlooking the beach, and the location was great. We only had breakfast in the hotel, but it was really nice and dining room had a lovely ambience. The only negative was that there was a party by the pool on the night we were staying (with a band) - it was extremely noisy

Room Tip: Book a room with a view of the beach

After 10 days in the bush, our family of five adults spent three days at the Zanzibar Serena Inn. It was truly a special treat. The buildings and decor are lovely, the location on the beach is indeed serene and welcoming, the food was tasty and plentiful, the massages were first rate, and the staff was accommodating and responsive. Note that we did not opt for the pricey seafood dinner on the rooftop. It's really unnecessary, as the other dining area was delightful.

Room Tip: Check-out is 10AM; be sure to ask for a late check-out if you have an afternoon flight from Zanzibar...

This would have to be probably the best hotel we have stayed at. The hotel is a refurbished old building and the decor fits perfectly with the location. Rooms have beautiful private balconies overlooking the water. There can be no more romantic site than sitting having breakfast/dinner looking out at the dhows sailing past.

We loved the local orchestra entertaining guests at pre dinner drinks on the pation overlooking the water

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a water view. I suggest on the first floor. (Room 26 I think)
