This has to be the best hotel in Zanzibar. Location couldn't be better and the architechture is very authantic. Yusuf opens your car door and welcomes you as you arrive. He hand you a wet towel to refresh youself. The restaurants are great. The only problem is the food is so good that you put on some weight. The views from your room + the restaurant are amazing.

This hotel is very nicely located in a safe part of town. The beds and rooms are very comfortable. We only spent one night here and wished we had more time to discover this hotel and the surrounding. Zanzibar is all about discovering the culture and history and this hotel is just about the best to help you on this task. Highly recommended for a short or long visit.

Serena Inn has a very nice location by the sea and surrounded by the historical centre of Stonetown. Serena is a safe and pleasant place to stay even with small kids as we did. Since HRH Prince Charles stayed there one week after we, there must be also more luxury options. Anyway, the inner wooden decor is fine.

The breakfast is fantastic but be aware of greedy large black birds that just wait for an opportunity to steal your food. The pool is great even though not very large and the surrounding terrace fine for sunsets, often accompanied by local musicians. Even the standard rooms are spacious and have a beautiful sea view. The staff is attending and greets you but sometimes one needs to ask for service.

There is power generator so you do not have to worry about the frequent power cuts in Zanzibar. The rooms close to the generator are disturbed by its noise at night (I think rooms starting from nr 50…). The restaurant is rather expensive and price/quality rate is not good. You find better and much inexpensive food (for example, Monsoon, Archipelago) in 5 mins walk to your left. The reception helps with booking a table if needed. To your right at 2 mins walk there is a small place selling pasta and other Italian food and having free wireless connection. If I return to Stonetown, alone or with family, I would most likely return to Serena Inn. The place is bookable through hotels.com.

I would give this place 5 stars if it were not for the rooms that need a lift. Don't get me wrong, they are comfortable and clean, just old. But the hotel has an air of old world charm with a muslim flavor. The breakfast is incredible as is the breakfast room. The grounds are beautiful, with a pool and beach front view, although not on the beach but on the mezzanine level. Sulheiman, our porter for the two days we were there, was charming, attentive and a highlight of our stay - a true gentleman. If you read this, tell him you read about him on Tripadvisor - he deserves it.

Room Tip: Ask for fourth floor rooms, the view is nicer.

I spend quite some time in Serena Inn Zanzibar, I have no words to describe the high quality of the hotel and the staff. The Hotel in Swahili style is situated in the center of the Stone Town and is part of this wonder, by the sea and facing the mainland give the chance to the guests of unforgettable sunset views. Food rooms and service impeccable as per the details of building and furnishing that are becoming a “logo’ for the Serena Hotels. Excellent

This is my fourth stay at the Serena (I come here for work). Physically, the hotel is beautiful. But the management is getting worse and worse. Tonight, there is an incredibly noisy band playing just outside our windows in the pool area. The windows are shaking with the noise -- and this in a hotel which costs at least $300 per night. The internet connection is so poor that I can't even connect to my webmail -- and this despite the fact that one can by a Zantel USB internet drive here which provides quite good internet connection for much less than the exorbitant daily internet charge at the Serena. The staff are poorly organized and managed -- for example, one is left without towels after the room is services, or one has to ring several times for the staff to come for service. This is just not good enough for such an expensive hotel.

Loved the hotel, the staff were fantastic and the service was great. The rooms were nice and the locationw as right on the water. Our favorite part was the day we spent at the hotel's private beach. It does take about 30 mins to get to the beach via complimentary shuttle but once there everything is handeled, food, drinks, towels, umbrella's, mattresses, etc. The price of the hotel was worth the stay.
