I recently stayed for 2 nights at the Maru Maru Hotel in Stone Town. It is a perfect location as you are actually in Stone Town and everything is within easy walking distance. The room was very clean and well appointed with a good bathroom and air conditioning. The staff are friendly and there is a great rooftop where you have breakfast and a drink at night. You must see the sunset from the roof. There is a courtyard where you can have coffee and snacks and the architecture is lovely.

We stayed 2 days in the Maru Maru Hotel while in Zanzibar...Great location right in the middle of Stone Town, nice, clean hotel... Alot of the staff don't understand english very well so that was a bit of a challenge for us, but they all tried very hard to understand and be helpful. We took a tour with a guide from the hotel which was really not worth the money, we could have seen everything ourselves... it is pretty easy to navigate around Stone Town. Nice roof top restaurant and bar with a good view of the city.

A Nice place to visit and have a sunset diner. The view is incredible, the food is great, the hotel staff is every nice and polite and the rooms are very. comfortable. I recommend! It is worth going with your other half, your friends or just by yourself!

I don't really see what the fuss was about with this hotel. Yes, it is well-located right smack bang in the middle of Stowntown, the bed was comfortable and the service was passable. However, for the price we paid, we thought our room was pretty much just the kind of place you would want to sleep and shower - it was small, functional, everything worked, but with no other draw-card to keep us there. The roof-top was however delightful. My advice - stay in one of the more affordable hotels nearby and come for drinks at sunset. For me this place just felt like an impersonal, big hotel with not a lot of soul.

We stayed 1 night and were impressed with the effort in all areas to achieve a high standard professional cosmopolitan hotel in Stone Town, which can easily seen to be a challenge.
The staff were friendly and professional. The welcome was warm and genuine. They are very eager to please. We were offered the usual cold towels and welcome drink but also at this hotel they offer a free cocktail voucher for the evening at dinner. A generous gesture.

The new section is better than the classic section. Reasons: quieter and wifi. Classic section is above the noisy street side and offers cable internet.

The rooms are clean modern and average size. The beds and linen are absolutely fine. Bathrooms good. The rooms are more contemporary than a few of the other hotels in Stone Town. Interestingly the hotel has a elevator, very very usual in Stone Town! If you have any mobility issues, this is 100% the place for you to stay.

The food was good. Some dishes better than others. The have a large menu and a wide selection of Indian food. Their roof top restaurant is one of the hotels best features. For sundowners it is fantastic. Their cocktails are good. Viewing area excellent and atmosphere chilled.

We stayed in 3 different hotels in Stone Town and on personal experience for location, value, comfort, we would stay here again.

The position is phenomenal. The hotel is right behind House of Wonders and near the Fort, and right on one of the main shopping streets.

We don't have anything negative to say about this hotel. An open mind must be kept to enjoy Stone Town.

Stayed with my eldest daughter and two friends last March (the end of Summer there). This hotel is a gem, near the entrance to Stone Town -- great staff, lovely room. We were given guidance on where to go and picked-up from the airport with cool clothes upon arrival from Dar, nice touch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street and be sure to have drinks at the roof top bar at night -- just...

Hotel was pretty comfortable and nicely maintained. The location is the best part of this hotel. its situated right in the middle of stonetown with so many historical places just a walk away. Explore the stone town on foot and you can discover shops, museums etc. Couple of minutes away from forodhani gardens.

Now the downside, First is the it can sometimes get quite noisy specially on weekend becuase of loud music being played on the rooftop restaurants. Another bad experience was with hot water. There was some sort of problem with the heater which couldnt be fixed to normal operation during our 3 day stay. :(
