“It was so good, we had to go back a second time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We started out with a glorious sunset over the whole of Stone Town right out over the Indian Ocean a first unmissable experience. Then we ordered cocktails at US$5 a piece - delicious and great value. But then the piece de la resistance was the five-course dinner. It was really a very complex tasting menu introducing different elements and flavours, elegantly combining sweet and sour, bland and hot - all of which blended together to form a coherent whole. The dinner was served by very friendy staff who patiently explained the ingredients and cooking methods. Wonderful! Here's a sample of the menu on November 11, 2012:

Vumi’s Salad
Edna’s Spinach Roll
Duck Stuffed Tomato
Bungo Fruit Cevice

Turmeric Calamari
Cassava Reaz
Nyanya Chungu

King Prawns Butterfly
Grilled Pineapple
Garlic Bamia

Mama Tuna’s fish
Watermelon Salad
Mbirimbi Pickle

Stafeli Saffron Givré
Passion Fruit Tart
Cardamom Coconut Banana

So good, we went back two nights later. Irresistable. Don't miss it!

“Good atmosphere, average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We decided to try Emerson after reading all of the fantastic reviews on tripadvisor.

We were welcomed with impeccable service and one of the most beautiful views you will see of sunset. Make sure you get there early at 6pm to sit and enjoy the sunset spectacle.

The ingredients used were fantastic and were cooked very well. Our main issue is that the flavours often didn't mix well didn't work as complete dishes. It could have been much much better. We felt that this was the same in each course - it's like they chose expensive and delicious ingredients and threw them on a plate without much thought to planning a great and complimentary menu.

Overall a lovely experience but probably wouldn't go back again (of course this is all personal opinion based on the menu of the day).

“The most amazing meal ever - a feast. Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Just had the most amazing 5 course dinner at the roof top restaurant in Stone town Zanzibar. Just the most amazing food ever! 5 briliantly prepared fish dishes , a total asult on the taste buds and friendlty service with drop deal georgeous views over the old town of Stonetown. The owner Emmerson was on hand , and very hospitable. The hotel rooms look teriffic too. Should have michelin stars. At $30 worth every cent.
