I was amazed by the decor of this hotel!!!Its like a museum of African Art!! Rooms are just beautiful, including dining area and patio. Great place to stay for couple of nights, when you wish to visit Stone Town, before going further around the island. Breakfast was very good and the service is quick and very polite.
I loved the atmosphere there. You can get a lot of inspiration for your own house;-)
Worth to stay there!!

Room Tip: Princess Salme room

I stayed at the hotel from 7-9 June. I was a bit disappointed and frustrated when I left the hotel. I thought the interior design was magnificent, and had hoped that the service would match that. I must add that the staff was very friendly and I am sure they wanted to serve me as a guest as best as they could (especially the lady serving breakfast). However, the service-mindedness was more of a façade than de facto. Not being able to communicate properly in English made a basis for misunderstanding and frustration. Though, stains on a towel, not adding toilet paper and candelabras without actual candles etc was not due to the language problem but rather negligence. Sadly, my overall impression of the hotel is not that of being a luxury hotel.

Me and my wife spend our honeymoon in this luxury boutique hotel in Kamasutra suite and it was amazing, the view from our room was absolutely stunning (Not forgetting the outside bathroom). The overall service that we receive from reception, Restaurant, housekeeping made our honeymoon unforgettable one.

We highly recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Kamasutra room is absolutely stunning.

Great location and friendly staff made this a good way to end our honeymoon. We stayed in the split level karma sutra suite which included an outdoor bathroom. We also had a cooking lesson in the hotel which was a nice way to spend an hour. Would recommend.

Quite simply we loved staying at Javed Jafferji's wonderful hotel, which is situated slap, bang in the middle of the busy narrow pedestrian shopping streets in Stone Town. It's also conveniently situated near the old fort and the sea.

Once inside you immediately leave all the noise and are welcomed by some fabulous hosts, who do their utmost to make you feel welcome. The building has been lovingly restored and intelligently laid out. There's a courtyard in the middle with the suites and sitting areas all around it on three floors. Each suite has its own theme, and we stayed during our stay there, starting in the Adnan Suite with its Pakistani décor; then we spent a night with Freddie in the Mercury Suite adorned with Queen memorabilia, and finally we moved into the Princess Salme Suite with simply the best bathroom in the world, all reminiscent of the Sultan's time.

Away from your suite, the hotel has several quiet sitting areas with photos adorning the walls, gorgeous furniture and plenty to read about both Zanzibar and Africa. Javed himself has fingers in many pies on the island; one of his many skills is photography, hence the photos around the hotel.

Two tips: Firstly, make use of the discount voucher you get from staying at the hotel in his shop down the road. There are tourist shops, and there are tourist shops. Javed sells things you actually want to buy and bring home! Secondly, pick their brains about the island. Our whole holiday was made very special by spending some time talking with the staff about where to go in Zanzibar.

We can't wait to go back and stay there again one day.

This visit in Stone Town, Zanzibar for four days was an enchanting experience. This remodeled single family dwelling has a dozen rooms outfitted with antiques and pleasantries dating back to the early 1800s. My stay was in the Princess Salme suite which made me feel every inch 19th Century royalty. It was so charming I spent hours just soaking up the ambiance of my suite surroundings. The roof top open air spa also added to the please as I spent 3-5 hours each day receiving aromatic body scrubs and herbal massages. My skin at the end of this fantastic weekend has a renewed vigor and nourished look. Thank you staff!

Not enough can be said for the central location of this hotel and the glorious step back into time you can find along the narrow streets. Shop after shop of goods the world over can be found. Look closely enough and you will find a few pieces of enticing artwork. Those interested in the art of carved door will find a bonanza of items to wander through on exotic Zanzibar. It takes an open mind to enjoy the full glory of Stone Town and you need to set aside some fastidiness to wander the streets which sometimes feel dark and looming. This is a Muslim based society so drop the shorts and tank tops in respect for the culture. Many fully veiled women will be seen and men will give tourist clothed women in shorts looks that can make one uncomfortable in their disapproval. It also doesn't accomodate wheelchairs and those with trouble walking very well. I will return to this island just for the adventurous feel it gives me.

Room Tip: No room is bad here. They each have their own self contained environment.

Its a new hotel so the 'authentic' bit is obviously cleverly designed. However, this boutique hotel in central Stone Town is perfect for those looking for something with a real Zanzibar feel. Lots of photos, masks, and 'africana' all round the hotel, giving it a layered, character feel. I looked at the Out of Africa room which, in my opinion, was a little bit over done - like a curio shop rather than a room! The Sultan Suite was amazing - a huge bedroom and large terrace with an outdoor shower and fantastic old bath! Views across Stone Town - just fantastic. My favorite room, however, was the Princess Salme - lovely - very pretty and well laid out. I would still recommend the Maru Maru for travellers who want something clean, bright and practical, but Jafferji House is a brilliant find for slightly less fussy visitors who want to feel the full Zanzibar vibe!

Room Tip: Higher the floor the better
