On certain nights Forodhani Park is filled with food vendors of every sort. You can taste every kind of see food and enjoy sugarcane juice at the park under the moonlight looking out at sea. It's quite the experience. It's quite safe and people are generally quite friendly.

The guide book mentioned visiting Forodhani Gardens in the evenings, which may be better than our experience. We went during the day, and as obvious tourists we could not walk ten feet without a street tout coming up and trying to sell his services as a guide. We ignored them as best we could, but it pretty much ruined what would otherwise be a nice park by the ocean. We stopped just long enough to look out at a few dhows in the water, then headed back to the labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets where there was less harassment.

Forodhani park is situated along the fisherman boat-lined shore.
Right across the street are the sights - the palace of wonders, the museum, etc...

The park is otherwise simple and uninteresting, but what makes it so exciting is that in the evenings, food stands are set up in the middle of the park, offering cheap, Zanzibari dishes for locals and foreigners.

It's a really fun vibe, and the food is delicious. It's definitely worth coming here in the late afternoon to get some cool exposure of the culture!

They prepare the skewers before and leave there, good part is reheated and not good quality. The pizza is a little better but not really the highlight of Zanzibar who have better things to do.

The fact that there are several market stalls is a tourist attraction in itself. The food is good and affordable, just be sure to steer clear from the salads, most of them were not fresh. The chicken wasn't great either. but all the sea food was amazing and the sugarcane, ginger and lemon juice was refreshing!
