“Busara at the Old Fort”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

This is where the Music Festival BUSARA is held - a large, outdoor setting with a big stage, shops along the sides. It's a gorgeous environment at night with the lighting....made of coral with lime on top.

“Street touts everywhere”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

We just walked by Old Fort (essentially a couple of old, stone turrets), but could not go more than a few feet without being harassed by street touts trying to sell their services as a guide. If you go on an organized tour it may be better, but if you are traveling on your own and look like a tourist, you cannot walk through the Old Fort/Forodhani Gardens area without constant harassment. Stay in the narrow, cobbled streets for more history and more regular people going about their business. We were VERY disappointed by the Old Fort area and left as quick as we could.

“Too bad this is not maintained.”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

The old fort is run down and in need of substantial repair. The entrance is uninspiring and the courtyard is grassy with lots of vendors stalls around the perimeter.
going through the courtyard to the rear , you will find a restaurant with the most beat up pool table I have ever seen. There are more stalls with vendors and a type of stage with semicircular seating. in one cornet is a turret that you can access by stairs. It houses an art exhibit and a ladder to the roof. The wall between turrets is accessible and provides access to the seconf turret but avoid those stairs down as they are metal with rotting wooden steps.
This could be an attraction but the decay needs to be addressed and soon. Visit early as it gets hot in there mid day!

“Nothing here to see”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

From the outside it looks OK - impressive walls that make it look like a proper castle - but on the inside there's nothing but a few shops and a poor restaurant. But at least it's free to go in.

“Poorly conserved”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

The fort is not conserved/protected and it's full of souvenir shops inside. There is nothing much to see. No entrance fee though
