We stayed one night prior to our departure back to the States. I wanted a central location in Stone Town and this fit the bill. The hotel was friendly, clean, rooms with AC and quite spacious. Breakfast was included and very good. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Perfect ending to a perfect trip!

We enjoyed this hotel for two days after a month of safaris in Tanzania. It is set in the former home of a wealthy "Swahili" family. The place oozes characcter from the rooms to the beautiful central lounging area to the terrace restaurant on the roof with some peekaboo views. The . rooms are large and modern with A/C, all the hot water you could want (you'll know what I mean after a month in the bush), good wifi, a large bathroom and all the other typical amenities. See the room hints for more on the room. The restaurant had entertainment (Taarab - unique Zanzabarian music) one of the nights. The hotel has a good central location in the old quarter of Stonetown. I think it is a superb choice unless you want a big western style hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 10 (top floor NE corner below the restaurant - keep that in mind as there are no elevato...

We decided to stay in Stonetown rather than a beach hotel (where one could be anywhere!) and the choice of Kisiwa was just right. A small hotel with it's own rooftop restaurant. Very friendly staff who treated one as an individual and were most accomodating when arranging trips or arrival and departure. Exceptionally clean with excellent mosquito protection. All the benefits of a chain hotel but small and charming.

Room Tip: I read somewhere that you should request a room on the 1st or 2nd floors. I think that was good advi...

Hotel was nice, but pity about Stone Town, maze of buildings and streets, hot, lots of annoying touts and only a few things to see that are poorly presented. I would spend only a day at the most and then go out to the beaches. This hotel had lovely rooms and an excellent restaurant on the roof top. if you have trouble with stairs though I would avoid this as the stairs are very steep and there are 4 floors to the top. We had all our meals at the hotel as the restaurants around didn't look that clean although we didnt look too hard. If you need a good taxi driver call Eddy, 0773107361, $10 frm Airport to hotel, $35 from Stone Town to Matemwe, $45 from Matemwe to airport.

Room Tip: not the bottom floor as it will get the road noise.

Stayed one night in October and stayed in the ground floor room. I did not have any trouble with the noise from either reception or the road but I can understand that it may get noisy.

The hotel's situation is excellent as are all the facilities, super helpful staff and great, spacious rooms.

The old house has been refurbished with incredible care. Just be ready for the stairs to the rooftop bar!

I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel.

Room Tip: View the sunset from the terrace on the roof. Not suitable for physically challenged.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October and loved it! The hotel is a stunning building and the rooms are fabulous, very spacious with huge double beds, air con, fridge, tv and free WiFi, and the bathroom had a bath, much needed after a hot and dusty day in Stone Town. The staff were exceptional and all spoke very good English. We didn't use the restaurant for lunch or dinner but breakfast was excellent and the rooftop setting had great views over the city. It could be quite noisy as the hotel is near Kenyatta St but this didn't bother us and it became quiet by around 9pm. Stone Town is an amazing place and I would definitely recommend Kisiwa House to anyone visiting the city.

Stayed here for one night. It's a beautiful and charming hotel. Our room had a huge bed and bathroom and the room came with a mini fridge, tv and free wifi. It's in a great location and the staff was very accommodating and courteous.
