“Great atmosphere!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Very nice restaurant near the water.......you sit on pillows on the floor so it's nice and cozy after touring all day. They had rose water in a tall slim spouted container.....it was so refreshing to splash some on. Great Serengeti & Castle beer. Food was very good....I highly recommend!

“Go for the live taarab music and the atmosphere”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We booked in advance on a night when we knew live Taarab music would be played. We made sure to make the reservation at the right time so as not to miss the music. The service was not the greatest but the food made up for it - it was spectacular. It was also cheaper than what they ask for down the road at the Jamhuri Garden Park stalls! We were seated inside on the carpeted floor with cushions. The music was amazing and the atmosphere was the closest we'd gotten to what we believed would be the dining chambers of the Zanzibari Sultan. Go for the music, it is authentic and unlike anything you've heard before - actually no, it's like many things you've heard before rolled into one awesome-sounding ensemble!

“Expensive and Poor Service”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

We had dinner at the Monsoon. What a disaster it was. The restaurant is very well located with good ambiance. We wanted an outside table which we got. After a while my wife who is allergic to cats saw one and we wanted to move inside. So we were were shown into a huge empty hall with floor seating. After being there a while we noticed that we have been seated in the middle of the path to the toilet, so we once again asked to be moved to one of the many empty sitting places. We were told that this can't be done. I wanted to leave but we had already ordered and it was quite late so we decided to stay. The food came after almost 45 minutes of waiting and again the waiter disappeared on us. Every time we wanted assistance one of us had to go out and ask for it. Finally, when we were done we waited for someone to give us the bill, no luck again. We decided to pay at the reception. There we met the lady supervisor on her cell, again a wait. Finally, we were able to pay the bill and conclude our ordeal.

“Terrible food & service”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We had dinner at Monsoon recently that was recommended by a local from Zanzibar. We were very disappointed, the food was served cold and the sea food platter was hugely overrated. 3 small prawns, overcooked calamari and a miserably small half lobster that would have been thrown back into the ocean anywhere else in the world. The waiter was very abrupt and not at all helpful, not surprising as it looked as if he was serving half of the restaurant that was very busy. He was run off his feet. We had much better food at some of the other restaurants.

“Some of the best food we had!”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

This is a beautiful restaurant-- no question it's catered to westerners but at least the food is actually good and incorporates some traditional Swahili cooking, unlike many of the other western restaurants. This was definitely our best meal while in Tanzania!
