“Good food; ok prices.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2010

Very simple place; was able to sample some local Zanzibarian specials here which was pretty good, and prices were decent. Had a bottle of sav. blanc. from S.Africa which was ok. Bar had a nice view of city looking to the west.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2010

We had lunch in this Gem of a place. The views from the roof terrace over the Indian Ocean and Dhows sailing past are matched by the delicious and aromatic Swahili influenced food. The decor matches the theme and would have to come close to epitomising Zanzibar style.

“just average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2009

the bar is very nice and the staff as well but the food was nothing but average and the restaurant itself is cold in both way: lack of atmosphere and the full air con. It was also pricey

“A wonderful suprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2009

Al Johari means in 'something of value' in Arabic, and I would agree. The resturant and open air bar provide a lovely end to a day in Stone Town. The bar is probably the best stocked in the whole of Zanzibar, and has a happy hour from 5pm - 7pm. [50% off all spirits and beer].
The decor is lovely and as you relax with your half price beer, you can look over the sea and watch the sun set. Then enter the restaurant, and have your meal with the sound of the 2 level waterfall. The menu is varied and the service is good.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place.

“Best food in Stone Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2009

Beautiful hotel with the bar and restaurant at the top. Fantastic design (the water effects, sinks in the toilets, the table of "found objects" in the bar) and great views.

Fab spot for sunset - reasonably priced cocktails and while there are only about 6 tables in the bar it was just us and one other couple.

The food was superb - Al Johari coconut crab claw curry is very recommended - and served with flare (I got a bib ... it was needed!). Food was slightly more expensive compared to other places but worth it.
