“It's OK but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

...You should definitely try some of the less touristy (yes, that is possible in Stone Town) places.

Beyond the name, don't expect much Freddie Mercury in this bar. I visited this bar with a group of friends one evening, there was live music -not even Mercury's style of music- blaring out at a ridiculous volume for such a small restaurant area which made conversation very difficult. The food itself was OK but nothing to write home about.

Considering the wide variety of food available to you on such a beautiful island of spices and fish, it was probably a meal wasted in my opinion. I'd encourage anyone visiting Zanzibar to look around for a more local experience: it's not hard to find nicer places that'll cost you less, probably be a lot nicer and probably give you fonder memories to bring home with you.

“Tribute bar? Wha?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

This place is a tribute bar to Freddie Mercury in the same way that I have a Michael Jackson poster in my house, so my house is a tribute house. Almost twice the price of most places for cocktails and the food is western europe expensive. Quite a few flies and the harbour is really close so it can be nice , but can be REALLY noisy. If you want to see a bit about freddie, go and visit his house in stone town and don't throw your money away here.

“Nothing Mercury about it..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

If you want to visit this place for its 'Freddie Murcury'-ness, don't. The place isn't really where you can feel the singer's presence or time he've spent there. It's just a tourist trap, and inside it's a regular sea-side restaurant. Food was ok, and looking at the ocean was alright, but view wasn't spectacular by any means. You could get better views by going out, and foods are expensive considering they weren't that good. I mean it's an ok place, but no reason to pay premium to be eat there.

“Good for a drink !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

After reading up on Trip Advisor, we decided not to eat here but had a drinks instead.

Nice view and definitely easy to sit and watch the day go by !

Service was good until the end when we wanted to pay the bill. We went up to the counter and we ignored for a wee bit by the cashier because she was talking to another member of staff.
