Nice way to experience the crowds and mingle with the locals. Lively atmosphere, lots of families. Lots of vendors selling their fare. Walk around and see what'f on offer and check out the prices before buying. Definitely try out the sugar cane juice; just be sure to ask for the freshly squeezed juice as it's being squeezed and not out of the bucket (found this out later from the locals after having the juice from the bucket! but I was completely fine). Food tasted ok, not particularly amazing. Just be wary, make sure your food is hot, and that they give you what you chose. Again eat at your own risk. My husband and I both ate and were completely fine. Really enjoyed the atmosphere though.

It is a must see thing when you are in Zanzibar Town. The lights, the vendors, the crowds, the families. A very lively place. Huge variety of fresh seafood but the taste experience is rather disappointing. So are the prices. Come see it after the sunset then look for a better place to eat.

We'd imagined we'd eat here most evenings. However, the touts were so insanely on top that we couldn't even see through to the food itself. Hungry as we were, it was no atmosphere to relax in - so we left for a safe option. Pity.

I visited Forodhani Gardens in 2005 and now some 8 years later I found it was a little disappointing. Very interesting to sit and watch the world go by or mingle with the locals, see the waterfront, and pat and feed the many stray cats. We chose not to eat at the outdoor seafront food stalls as the food did not appear fresh. 8 years ago the seafood was fresh and delicious, this time it were not as game. Do try the Zanzibari Pizza as it's made fresh. The sugarcane juice and the fresh fruit is all delicious and well worth a try. The gardens are small but very welcoming. The best time to visit is at night when all the locals come out and enjoy the seafront.

Consider it a large outdoor seafront foodcourt with lots of options. Carefully select only hot food fresh out of the the grill. Try out the beef mishkaki, zanzibari pizza and sugarcane juice with lemon(at your own risk, of course !). Enjoy! but stay away from the touts.
