We booked here last minute on air bnb and were not at all dissapointed.
The place was spotless and well decorated, a really lovely feel and vibe to the place.
Highly reccomended.
The views from the roof are superb

Don’t let the vacant lot next door deter you. This little boutique hotel is safe, clean and includes a simple but freshly made breakfast of seasonal fruit and eggs or pancakes to order. Located around the corner from the Double Tree by Hilton, it’s a great value for what it provides. Beautifully furnished rooms with handmade furniture and nice decorative linens, private modern baths, A/C, fans and an optional paid ($5 for the key) safe deposit box in the room. There is also a nice breezy rooftop terrace which is a bonus for guests to relax after a long day of exploring.
I found this place to be a much better value than many places in Stone Town with the same quality amenities and proximity to all the sights.

We stayed at the Shaba Boutique Hotel for two nights.
Perfect located at the Center of Stone Town.
We had Room number 3, very small Room but comfortable bathroom, very quiet.
The fan/Ventilator need to be lubrificate . A/c was working perfectly.
Breakfast was ok.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for the nice review, Shaba is located in a historical town center traders house, Room 3 is a smaller but still big enough that you can easy move around in the room. The room is still 30sqm. Thank you for the information about the fan, we have direct changed it for a new one

We are located in the middle of town centre, but just 50 mtr away from the noisy street what result that it is perfect silent and relax.

Did you used the roof top terrace? Here you have a perfect city and ocean view from Stonetown.

Thank you for staying with us,

Bert

How a trip to a beautiful island was a horrible experience destroyed by an invisible host and a bad-managed hotel with no relation among them. Main failures:
1. The information on how to get there was uncompleted despite several requests. The host didn't provide input on the key questions: transport to get there, price and correct address
2. Our room wasn't booked. We booked and payed via airbnb but the host did not inform the hotel so, we were left at the reception without permission to enter the hotel being treated as liars. We have informed the host of our arrival time and sent a remainder 5 hour before. Even after this, he did not book our room and we were kept at the entrance, badly treated for almost 45 min.
3. We were finally placed in a "room" that was a storage rather than a bedroom. It had no light, it was next to the kitchen & reception so all noises and conversations could be heard as if they were inside the room; it was next to the garbage area so everyday at 6.15am the noise of the rubbish truck was tremendous (impossible to sleep); there were no wifi in the room and hot water only for one person (the 2nd one had cold shower every day); the linen were dirty and broken. The place we stayed had nothing to do with the airnbnb pictures.
4. We surprised the receptionist inside our room TWICE in 2 different days. When we complained, they said that it was for housekeeping but there were very strange times and a suspicious coincidence to find her repetitively inside our room.
5. We constantly wrote to the host, requested help and a room's change but there was no reply. The host wasn’t in the island and wasn’t replying to the messages neither.
6. The taxes had to be paid extra. I requested an invoice but this was not from the same hotel (is this even legal?)
In sum, horrible experience (scam) that we reported to Airbnb and the Zanzibar police. We are regular Airbnb customers and it is a pity that a credible site includes this type of scam on it.

Room tip: Our "room" was a storage: no light, noisy, no wifi, no water. They call it "standard". Beware: book any other hotel.

We stayed here as part of our Zannzibar holiday only for one night as it was recommended by Paradise Beach Resort and we wanted to visit Stone Town. It is lovely, small, quaint and quirky. Beach is only a 5 min walk as there is no pool, would be room for an outside juccuzi if they wanted to put one in though. Decor is wonderful, breakfast standard, cleanliness exceptional, you must stay here.

Room tip: Any room is lovely

Dear Harry,

thank you for staying in Shaba, yes it is the sister hotel from Reef & Beach and Paradise Beach resort in Zanzibar. Perfect location in old town centre, just the place to be.

thanks
