Chris Fox and his staff has created the ultimate safari experience in relatively unknown and uncrowded Ruaha National Park. The accommodations are fabulous; private, self contained, secure tents, under expansive thatched canopies each looking out over the sand river. From our comfortable bed, we observe elephant, giraffe, zebra, baboons, monkeys and many birds. From our bed! When we got up and had the fresh brewed coffee, which was delivered to our tent, and a hot shower, we went off on incredible early morning game drives with the best trained, and nicest guides in Africa, with separate drivers (Many other camps the guide is the driver, making it very difficult to accomplice either task well). Our guide knew every animal and bird, their scientific name, their behaviors and their place in the ecology of the park. We were then served an excellent breakfast, in the bush! Back to the camp for a rest and a delicious lunch in the main lodge. One day we were a little late for lunch as there was an elephant blocking the trail from our tent to the dining hall! Afternoon game drive was followed by an incredible dinner, cooked and served down in the river bed one night, observed by a tree hydrax, and out in the bush another. In our group, Mwagusi was able to cater to dietary preferences (gluten free, vegetarian). Ruaha is not cheap to get to, and you can pay more at other camps but you won't find a better safari experience anywhere in Africa!

Room tip: Request French pressed coffee for your morning wake up call.

We had such a great stay at Mwagusi. We didn't plan to stay here in Ruaha NP, but from the moment we entered the place we decided to stay, and we are so happy we made that decision.

During our honeymoon in Tanzania, my wife broke her ankle a few days before we came to Mwagusi. We had some difficulties getting around, and the staff (special thanks Valelian, Yona, Baldwin) and management (thanks Henrik!!) were enormously eager to help us in different ways during our stay at Mwagusi.
We had a wonderful stay, probably the best stay in whole Tanzania here.

Best, Anne and Veer

Thank you Veer for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to make your honeymoon stay special and to help your wife Anne, the team made sure she did not miss a thing even though she had broken her ankle. Hopefully Anne is back on two feet now. The photos tell the story! We are glad you decided to visit Ruaha and Mwagusi.....you must come back to celebrate a future anniversary with us.
With thanks from the Mwagusi Team.

Very friendly welcome and atmosphere, stunning view over the dry river bed from our banda, in particular at dawn. Excellent game drives with our experienced guide and driver, stunning sightings of animals, lions, elephants and a really close, superb leopard. We willl treasure the good memories and hope to be back.

Your review is very much appreciated and your comments passed on to all in the team. Experiencing a leopard up close is something very special. We hope you are back to Mwagusi soon sitting on your verandah watching the daily life of the riverbed and the breaking of dawn.
Many thanks, from the Mwagusi Team.

We spent three nights at the Mwagusi Safari camp. Every aspect was delightful. The accommodations were wonderful... The Bandas (large tents on permanent bases with spacious porches and bathrooms) overlook the river bed, where we saw elephants, baboons, monkeys, and impalas. Our safari guides were amazing. They were extremely knowledgeable about all the animals and plants and enjoyed sharing that knowledge. They were really good at finding the animals we wanted to see (including the elusive leopard). The park itself is full of wildlife. We saw herds of elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, birds galore, and so much more. In addition, the meals were fantastic. Coffee and biscuits delivered to the banda in the morning, followed by breakfast in the bush while on the morning game drive. A fantastic lunch at the camp, with another game drive in late afternoon. Dinners are delightful, and in a different location every night. All in all we were completely charmed.

We really appeciate your lovely review, thank you Alison. The advantage of having breakfast in the bush gives you the opportunity to take in the beauty, the mixture of sounds surrounding you and watch the bush come alive. I will pass on your comments to all the Mwagusi staff who are proud to share their knowledge and stories with our guests and to our chefs who, working quietly behind the scenes provided those fantastic meals.
Thank you for sharing your experience with others, we hope one day you will return to Mwagusi.
Enjoy the memories. The Mwagusi Team

My husband and I just spent 4 nights in Mwagusi exactly 9 years to the day from our last visit. This time we brought another couple with us to share in the magical experience at Mwagusi. From their first step into their Banda, they were enchanted. The Bandas at Mwagusi are large permanent tent structures with large open air porches that over look the Mwagusi River / river bed. During our stay, we saw elephants, birds, monkeys, baboons, and a giraffe just wondering in front of our Banda in the open camp. People not familiar with being on Safari may not understand how structured a vacation it is. There is a morning game drive followed by a communal lunch then an evening drive followed by a communal dinner. At Mwagusi the dinners are open air and at different areas of the camp every night. A guide brings you to dinner from your Banda. It’s VERY dark. Bring your own torch. There is minimal electricity in the tents. The lamps offer very little illumination. There is a special plug to charge your phone, but you will need to give your camera battery to the staff to charge every night. The highlight of our trip was our guide Jimmy. He taught us so much about animals, the bush, and Swahili. Ruaha is much more untouched than the rest of the game reserves. We rarely saw another vehicle, and we saw SO MANY animals... elephants, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, alligator, hippo, warthog, hyena, impala, water buck, monkey, baboon, birds, lizards.... etc. It was a fabulous once in a lifetime adventure. Henrick, the camp director, took excellent care of us, and made sure our stay was perfect. I hope it doesn’t take us 9 years to return.

Thank you Julie, it was lovely to welcome you back to Mwagusi after such a long time and for another birthday celebration with us. I know the team enjoyed making that evening an extra special memory for you all. Ruaha is blessed with so much wildlife and as you experienced there is always plenty to watch from the comfort of your banda and on a game drive. I will certainly be passing on your comments to Henrik and to Jimmy, upgrading the lighting in the bandas is something Henrik has been working on recently. Mwagusi waits for your next return visit before 9 years past again!
Thank you from the Mwagusi team!
