“A Beautiful Camp”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2006

Following our stay at the Selous Safari camp, we spent three days at Jongomero. The service and guides were excellent and friendly. The accomodations were also excellent. We didn't see as much wildlife that we would have liked. However, we loved the seclusion the camp provided. Overall, a great experience.

Jongomero is a wonderful place on earth. The landscapes, wildlife, camp and Claire and Craig's hospitality made it a fantastic experience. We stayed for 3 nights. I agree with everything the previous person wrote, although I could have happily stayed a bit longer.

  • Liked — Lions and elephants roaming around the tent at night
  • Disliked — There was nothing not to like
  • Tips/Secrets — Brilliant white, blue and black clothing are best left at home

We just returned from a two week trip to Tanzania and spent three nights on safari at Jongomero. It was an amazing 3 days.

The tented accommodation was superb. Contrary to what we had been told about Safari food, it was outstanding and the service was first class. It way exceeded our expectations.

The camp has 8 tents so only 16 guests max. So attention and service is very personal. The couple who manage it (Clare and Greig) from South Africa were very good indeed and ran a great camp. We would definitely go back.

We turned up on our first day to find everyone in the bar lounge area watching a male elephant eating from a tamarind tree just feet from us. This was quite an introduction. The camp only offers driving safari options and this is the main downside it can get a bit monotonous compared to other camps where they can do walking or boating. We'd suggest that 3 nights is ideal but do not stay longer than that. We would highly recommend this place. The variety of animals was wonderful, with great guides too. On a morning safari ask them to arrange a bush breakfast for you. Sundowners with the Hippos are fantastic too. It was amazing to sit there drinking a G&T with Hippo's only yards away.

All in all we would highly rate this camp.

  • Liked — The great tents
  • Disliked — Lack of variety of safari activities
  • Tips/Secrets — 3 days is ideal
