Only stayed one night, and didn't arrive until early evening, and left early morning, so didn't get to use the great facilities. Beautiful-looking pool, with fantastic views of the Park. The food was wonderful.

After climbing Kilimanjaro, this wonderful Serena Lodge was the first stop on our safari. We were greeted by the very friendly manager, Mohammed, and I am so grateful to him. On the descent from Kili, my big toe became very bruised and infected and it was incredibly painful. We told him about it, and he had a doctor for us IN 30 MINUTES! The very capable doctor removed the infection and gave me antibiotics, and asked for no money (of course we tipped him very well). Truly above and beyond.

And, everything else was lovely - the chef was so friendly, food was delicious, gorgeous rooms, great wait staff - especially Joshua, who taught me some more advanced Swahili phrases. :)

This is a nice hotel but not the same standard as later hotels visited in Tanzania. The breakfast and buffet dinner was good and the staff were very attentive - take plenty of US $1/$5 with you for tipping. Nobody wants Tanzania currency. Rooms were good, very clean and comfortable. We had no complaints but this was the first lodge on our safari and they got better as we went on.

Serena Lake Manyara lodge is outside the park just over the hill with a great view of the lake, plains and valleys (10 minutes by car from park entrance). The lodge is beautiful, green, relaxing. Rooms are little cottages on a row over- looking at the lake; the view we had from our balcony was amazing. Room was nice, with a real african atmosphere, spacious and comfortable.
Pool was nice and refreshing with a great view as well.
Best thing was the buffet: we really had a great dinner (and we Italians are quite demanding with food...). My wife has a gluten free diet and she could eat most of the food (that means no pre-cooked food as it normally happens with buffet for large hotel!).
Breakfast buffet was great as well.
I do suggest to stop here if you plan to visit the park.

This Serena Safari lodge is a good lodge but it is very large and there are (to)many people.
The employers are very friendy and the food was good.
Our children like the swimmingpool and the dancersshow in the evening.

Lake Manyara is the first park we visited. It does not bear comparison with our later game drives in Serengeti, Ngorongoro and even Tarangire. However, Serena Lodge has there its best facilities. Special note to the infinity pool facing the lake, but even the rooms are very good...

Overall, the northern circuit is great, thank you very much to Mike Toogood for organizing the trip.
