We (four adults) stayed at the Lake Manyara Serena for two nights.

This is an extremely well laid out property with tons of ambience. All the rooms overlook the lake, while the hotel itself has a great African décor. Coupled with the infinity pool that makes you feel that you could step down into the park itself, and the restaurant that has outdoor seating overlooking it all, confirms that you have made a great decision on where to stay.

Lake Manyara itself has lots to see even if it is a small park. We saw ostriches, giraffes, hippos, wildebeest, monkeys, baboons, hyrax, Cape buffalo, and of course elephants. The difference here is that we not only saw a number of elephants, but two old fellas (estimated to be at least 60) who were massive. What made the one even more spectacular was that he had huge curved tusks that made you think of an ancient mastodon. The other came right up to the safari vehicle and then proceeded to look inside – we were no more than a foot from him.

Also found in this area are Ebon (ebony for us) trees and Baobab (not sure of the spelling) trees. The Baobabs are huge – probably 15 feet across at the base.
The hotel itself raises its own vegetables and the grounds overlook the valley and lake.
Rooms are quite big and very nice. Look for the upper floors as I believe that you would get a better view.

There is entertainment – African dancing each evening by the pool at 6:00 pm and then again at 9:00 in the conference room beside the lounge.

Staff are friendly and accommodating. Food was very good, and if you can score an outside table it makes your evening. The hotel supplies complimentary bottled water in the rooms.

Remember to tip those who make your holiday special. A couple of bucks to your waiter, porter or guide are appreciated along with a few Asante’s (thank-you's).

We stayed in early August and the temperature was around 26 in the day and 12 at night.
We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel.

Room Tip: Probably the Upper Floors for a Better View

If you are looking for a large, modern lodge this one is acceptable, but you lose much of the 'African' experience.

The rooms and bath were large, clean and well appointed. The view was great.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

The food was average buffet aimed at large tour groups. The selection was good, but the quality just average. Since everyone tends to eat at the same time, it can be crowded and noisy with a lot of people competing for the same service.

The internet was expensive and was so slow as to be unusable. Don't waste you money.

I don't know what else one could ask for--the location on the edge of the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley is spectacular. You can look over all of Lake Manyara National Park, and animals wander through the grounds. We watched a Bush Buck graze, and then admired Red Beaked Hornbills searching for food. The design of the hotel with its meandering paths to large rondavels with two units up and two units down is beautiful. The infinity swimming pool is breathtakingly beautiful (but cold). The rooms are spacious, with balconies for enjoying the great view of the Valley. The central bar area has a spectacular high ceiling lined with woven straw and huge light fixtures of the same material--very striking! Food may have been too much buffet-style for my taste, but it was quite satisfactory. Wi-fi costs $5 an hour. Highly recommended place to stay while exploring Tanzania.

This lodge believes in good old fashion service. Everthing is offered with a smile. They made us feel like celebrities. And the view from the rooms and the dining areas is breathtaking. Nice swimming pool & pool bar. Only got to stay 1 night but would have liked more.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the valley overlooking the pool.

Probably the best around Lake Manyara. Great view. Beautiful small pool. Overall a bit dated.

Stayed one night in June 2011 in a 2nd floor room over looking the infinity pool and Lake Manyara. The view from this hotel is breathtaking!

The room was spacious enough for just me & very clean including the bathroom.

Enjoyed a lovely table on the outside of the dining room and was served an equally satisfying meal by friendly & attentive staff.

Didn't have time to check out much of the grounds but what I saw looked very nice and well maintained.

Room Tip: Ask for 2nd floor.
