“Beautiful lodge with superb food and service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

We stayed at the Escarpment Luxury Lodge in early April as part of our safari and found it to be beautiful and tranquil. The service was polite and never intrusive, the rooms beautifully and tastefully appointed and the environment lush, romantic and with a real sense of being away from it all. Ezikial our 'butler' was beyond compare with his politeness and patience with our two boys. He was careful to cater to our needs without being over zealos or intrusive.

This is a beautiful lodge which deserves to do well . We will certainly tell our friends about it.

On this extremely hot day we truly enjoyed the refreshing swim in this lodge's spactacular pool. Another wonderful idea is the outdoor shower.

We were however simpy put off by the extravagant luxury of the lodege, which you reach over the usual dirt track, but one leading through outskirts of a village that appear more slummy than others we have passed. What a contrast! One that leaves also seasoned travellers like us with an uneasy feeling.

We were warned in advance to make sure the staff entered the correct currency on the cc slip, i.e. not by any chance EUR or GBP instead of USD... Sure enough, upon payment there were various complicated calculations going on - still the bill didn't match our own calculations. This was immediately put right. We paid cash and ceceived the change in TAnzanian shilling. Again the conversion came out wrong. The clerk's apology was that she did the conversion by the calculator on her mobile phone, which sometimes made mistakes... We didn't leave without having the impression that one was definitely out to cheat. Also we found the attitude of some of the staff embarassing: Being of a sugary friendliness which was dropped the minute they became aware that we were not going to tip individually but into the general tip box.
Would not recommend this lodge if you are only staying for one night. You will not have time to take advantage of the enourmous rooms or the terrace.

This is an amazing architecturally and the site is wonderful , overlooking Lake Maynara and the Rift Valley. The chalets are huge but the attention to detail is missed...lovely wooden doors opening on all sides to a lovely deck but there are no screens and many mosquitoes and some wildlife. We were assigned a butler ( this a bit pretentious ) , who was lovely and tried too hard but there were no coat hangers !
The main lodge has great views on all sides and overstuffed couches to fall asleep in. We loved the dancers from the local village though no one else came to the bonfire to see and hear them
The food was poor both at dinner ...just bad cooking, and for breakfast where the choices were quite limited but we loved sitting on the deck.
Hope they sort out the service problems as this could be the most amazing place and truly a luxury lodge.

Dear 45lovetravel45,

Please accept our sincere gratitude for staying with us and taking your time to post this constructive review.

At Escarpment Luxury Lodge we are committed to providiving each of our clients with exceptional service and an enjoyable stay. It is from this apect that we highly regret that certain aspects of your stay didn't meet your expectations.

Your constructive feedback has been passed on to all our team members and we are making every effort to ensure that these shortcommings are addressed to deliver that outstanding level of service expected of us.

We have in place a monthly continous product improvement program that covers butler service delivery, Front and backhouse, food quality etc..

Each of our luxurious Chalets is provided with two large french windows above the bedside table which are screened and allow one to sleep with his windows open. A large overhanging mosquito net is brought down during the evening turndown, to cover the bed area and give prevention from mosquitos.

Our Butler's Training programm is designed to emphasis high level of proffesionalism and we are seeing them exhibit that more.

On behalf of The Entire Team at Escarpment Luxury Lodge, I thank you once again for staying with us and look forward to seeing you again in the near future

Kind Regards

Edwin Ssebunya

We, too, had stayed only in tent camps, which we loved, but this was an interesting change and an impeccable example of African hospitality. The road through a typical village yields a surprise at the end as the stick and mud houses give way to this deluxe property with a spectacular view of the Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. Our "chalet" had everything we could have wanted, including chocolates and homemade cookies and, wonder of wonders, a hair dryer! The service was excellent, if a little over-enthusiastic at times, and the food was the best of the trip. The chef, Vero, was kind enough to give me the recipe for her "Cream of Farmers Soup." Dining on the deck with a great little combo playing music was delightful, but the very best part was the sight of a mongoose and later, a serval cat, on our deck.

We were suppose to stay at the Serena so when they said our accomadations had changed I was a little leary. OMG when we got there and saw the lobby...the had our breifing about the lodge by Edwin ...and were introduced to our butler AGATHE....we couldn't beleive our good fortune. When they took us tour room with the 300degree wrap around porch...we were in disbeleif. The posted fotos don't do it justice. It was immaculate and the decor was gorgeous. The food was delicious(too much food). We couldn't wait to go back there on our 6th night and I truly missed Agathe for those 6 days. I even got irritated with our driver when he said we would return from our drive at 4pm and we were still inthe park at 5. Besides the animals and our driver, the escarpment lodge was our favorite experiance.

Room Tip: They have king size beds

The view & quality of rooms are exceptional, but more contemporary African design than traditional safari lodges so not everyone's taste in our group. The service was poor even taking into account 'Africa time'. This was particularly an issue when breakfast takes over an hour and we wanted to start our game drive.

Excellent service, meals, privacy in brand new luxury facility. Wood floors are freshly waxed-be careful walking on them they are so freshly waxed! The pool provides a nice view of the lake. Dining on the deck provides similar views.
