“Very relaxing”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Spent a weekend at Berghouse and Cottages and came away feeling very relaxed. I particulary enjoyed the fireplace inside as one of the nights was really cold. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There is lots of open space and the kids ran themselves ragged. No real kid specific activities are available but there are some beautiful walks.

I wouldn't recommend a horse ride for beginners. The horses know the trails well and expect to canter, trot, etc. at certain points despite what you would like. Attempts to rein them in can result in a struggle and unexpected behaviour.

Great panoramic views of the northern Drakensberg, and rustic yet comfortable accommodation. Overseas visitors might find the 3km dirt road somewhat daunting, depending upon what vehicle is being driven, because of its steepness in some places and hairpin bends. Watch out if you're considering going horse riding, the horses are somewhat wild.

Room Tip: The two family cottages are great for family groups, and have or are close to the best mountain view...

Beautiful location with a quaint and charasmatic stone cottage. However one of our hosts was unaccomadating and refused a special request (we were all avid Olympic fans and they wouldn't allow us to watch 10 seconds of the 100meter final in their home). The linen was also very old and the beds uncomfortable. Must be noted our other host was very helpful where he could be, charming and a pleasure to deal with. We had also planned to bring our puppy as some of the websites say it is pet friendly, when I mentioned I was bringing him they said they don't allow pets. We had flown from cape town so it was a stressful and unnecessary experience making alternative plans for him. The website does say on a single page it's not pet friendly however it's not up to us to double check their errors and search their website, we had infact googled "pet friendly accomadation". With a more accomadating overall attitude, especially considering this is the hospitality industry, and some attention to basics it would have been a higher rating.

we stayed in the Thulathula cottage for three nights. The owner and his wife gave us a warm welcome and provided us with useful information about visiting the Royal Natal National Parc. The 3 km drive from the main road through the owners land was a real adventure but our normal (non 4x4) car managed to take it while driving in the first gear. The owner also created some short walking trails on his own land, which were a nice walk just before having diner.

We stayed at Berghouse and Cottages for only 1 night - not nearly long enough. The view was spectacular to say the very least. We highly recommend this gem of a place, a comfortable laid-back environment, cozy cottages, helpful owners and optional catered meals are just a few reasons why.
Our cottage was clean and neat and had everything we needed. Sitting on the outside veranda next to a fire was so pleasant, and we were thrilled when our dinner basket arrived with a satisfying meal. Star gazing was our city family's delight at night. Waking up to the amazing bird life was probably one of my most pleasant memory from our stay along with that unforgettable view. Before our departure my girls went on a leisurely horse ride while the boys hiked up a hill and I just sat and absorbed the sights and sounds of Africa. Thank you Chantal for all your help we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you. Next time we will stay longer.

What brilliant views of the full drakensburg, you can see so much. The accomodation is very nice and comfortable, with everything you might need. The owners are friendly and always there to chat and to advise were is the best place to go. The best thing about the B&B is the breakfast, delievered to your room in a basket everyday something different and very nice.

Room Tip: The honeymoon cottage and the 10 sleeper are right on the edge of the hill and the views from here a...

The Berg House and Cottages has a collection of six cottages available for use. They range in size from two-sleeper units to twelve-sleeper units. The entire place is lovingly maintained by the owners who have made a big effort and have an eye for detail. The resort is best suited to family and group getaways with loads of room for children to entertain themselves as well as activities capable of occupying even the most active adult mind. The view is spectacular and even though I didn’t find it exactly to my taste, it is worthy of a visit.

Room Tip: Cottage #1 named Thumela has the prime location if you have enough people.
