My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Seychelles and stayed at Kempinski Resort, which is located in a beautiful and secluded part of Mahe, definitely one of the nicest parts of the island. The resort is amazing and is exceptionally well maintained.
On arriving at Kempinski we received an extremely friendly welcome and our check in was effortless which included being given lemongrass iced tea that was very refreshing. The “Ladies in Red” were courteous, professional and pleasant at all times and ensured that everything was dealt with efficiently and effectively. Special mention must be made of Sarah and Kethsine who were absolutely fantastic and went out of their way to look after us and assist us with anything that we required.
We stayed in a hill view room on the first floor located in “Mangrove Court” which is in a quiet part of the resort and is a pleasant short scenic walk to the hotel reception, pool area and main beach area. We were informed that if we wanted, it was possible to be transported to and from our room in a golf cart, but we choose to walk every time as it was so enjoyable and it gave us more time to enjoy this spectacular resort. Our room was immaculate and extremely spacious with an adequate sized balcony with chairs and a table which was nice for relaxing and admiring the splendid views of the river and lush tropical scenery. Our king size bed was huge and very comfortable and had mosquito netting which ensured that every night we slept extremely well without being disturbed at all by mosquitoes. The quiet and effective air-conditioner also contributed to us sleeping peacefully and uninterrupted every night. For our 25th wedding anniversary, the hotel decorated our bed with flowers and provided us with a bottle of champagne, fruit and a delicious small cake. The fridge in the room was stocked with complimentary bottled water and a selection of cold drinks which included coke, diet coke, sprite and dry lemon. The cold drinks were not replenished but were more than sufficient as the bottled water was replaced twice a day. If however you wanted the cold drinks replenished, you could do so at a cost.
We were staying on a half board basis and had all our breakfast and dinner meals at Café Lazare, a smart casual dining area. For all our meals we choose to be seated on the open veranda area that is very spacious and pleasant and has beautiful views of the pool and beach. Both breakfast and dinner buffets were excellent with a great selection and variety of foods to choose from, as well as catering for all tastes. Special mention must be made of the quality and selection of pastries and deserts at breakfast and dinner respectively, which were absolutely superb. Free champagne is also offered at breakfast. The dinner buffets had a different theme every night and we experienced the Mediterranean Medley, Seychelles Creole Cuisine, Butchers Grill, Catch of the Day and Flavours of the Far East. We also enjoyed Cocktails at the Windsong Beach Restaurant which is on the beach, as well as Planters Bar and Lounge which is above Café Lazare, both of which have spectacular views of the beach and sea.
Besides spending time and relaxing at the large pool and on the stunning and beautiful Baie Lazare beach, there is so much to do at Kempinski and we went kayaking (free), snorkelling (free) and stand up paddling (SCR500 for 5 hours). The snorkelling was amazing as there is a large coral reef about 150 metres from the beach where there is a 5 - 6 metre drop off. We saw many fish including angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, unicornfish, surgeonfish and wrasse. Although we had our own snorkelling gear, all snorkelling gear is available to rent for free from the Kempinski office/shop located on the beach. I also went on a kayak/snorkelling trip which the hotel organizes on a daily basis at a cost of SCR500 which is well worth it. Mike, one of the “beach boys in blue” was our guide and he was absolutely fantastic, taking us to all the best snorkelling spots including the “fish cave”. We saw many incredible and colourful fish including a large black stingray. Other activities that were organised by the hotel for free that we participated in included, feeding the aldabra giant tortoises and a nature walk with Kenny as our guide who was brilliant and extremely informative and entertaining. We also rented a bicycle for free and cycled around the resort which is quite flat unless you go to the main Kempinski entrance gate which is a steep climb. The cocktail workshop at the Windsong Beach Restaurant, whereby we were shown how a “Creole Love” cocktail is made was fun and interesting. A game of musical chairs was played at the end to determine who gets the free cocktail and my wife won.
We spent a lot of the time on the beach as it was so relaxing and enjoyable. The 'beach boys in blue' were extremely helpful, and friendly, setting up our sun bed, handing out towels as well as providing complimentary water with lemon, smoothies, fruit skewers and cake throughout the day. Special mention must be made of Mike and Kenny who were really outstanding and attentive and did everything they could to ensure that we were well taken care of while on the beach.
The cocktail evening that we attended to meet the Kempinski management team was pleasant and it was lovely to meet and chat to fellow South Africans Dave and Robyn who recognised our accents and came over and introduced themselves to us. We also met Daniel a senior manager who went out of his way to ensure that our stay was memorable and just perfect.
During the last two days of our stay we hired a car and drove around the whole island and visited the small charming capital Victoria as well as Eden Island and a number of impressive and fabulous beaches including Port Glaud, Port Launay, Beau Vallon, Anse Royale, Petite Anse and Anse Itendance.
The check-out time of 12h00 is really convenient as you can relax and don’t have to rush. After we checked out at 12h00 we left our luggage in storage at reception which is safe and secure. We were able to continue making use of the hotels facilities, including all the beach facilities, as well as the gym facilities where we showered and changed, before we left for the airport.
Overall, we had an awesome time at Kempinski Seychelles Resort which was the perfect place to celebrate such a special occasion, our 25th wedding anniversary and it thoroughly deserves a rating of 5 out of 5. Hopefully we will be back again soon to visit this magnificent place.

Dear WestonC

Thank you so much for this very thorough and heartfelt review. I am so glad that you and your wife enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your wonderful compliments about our cuisine and friendly staff. It is always wonderful to receive this kind of feedback from appreciative guests and I thank you for taking the time to share it with us.

I am delighted to hear that your and your wife were able to enjoy a memorable 25th wedding anniversary with us. Due to the nature of the destination, we often get to share remarkable moments with our guests (be it a birthday, wedding, proposal, anniversary or honeymoon) and we always feel very honoured to be a part of these special moments in our guests' lives. Thank you for choosing to celebrate this auspicious occasion with Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare.

It sounds like you two enjoyed an activity-packed trip, and made the most of every facility we have to offer! It is wonderful that you got the opportunity to participate in so many outdoor activities, including snorkeling, kayaking, our nature walks and cocktail workshops.

I was especially pleased to hear that Sarah and Kethsine were able to assist in making your holiday even more memorable. The Lady in Red concept is unique to Kempinski properties around the world and creates a memorable point of contact for our guests looking to create unique experiences in Kempinski's remarkable locations. I am also pleased that you were able to enjoy our weekly management cocktail - once a week we invite our guests to join our management team for complimentary cocktails and canapés. This is a wonderful opportunity for our managers to interact with our guests and learn more about their stay with us and their experiences at our hotel.

I do hope that one day we can welcome you and your wife back to the Seychelles and back to our hotel. Happy travels!

Best regards,

We stayed as a family of 4 in this hotel in a hill view suite 1st. floor. Chronologically: We were already traveling the 12 previous days around La Digue and Praslin on a self-catering basis and after the exhaustion this means, we wanted to give ourselves some relax and luxus the last 3 days of our holidays on the Seychelles. The price of the hotel suite was quite ok. It was very spacious, with a WC room separated from the main bathroom. The suite had a separated living room where our kids slept, and the main bedroom had as well a small living area. We had the opportunity to choose between the ground floor and the 1st floor suites, and saw surprisingly that the 1st floor suite was at least optically more spacious than that of the ground floor. The big difference between them was also the sun beds on the garden or the balconies (you'd have 2 upstairs). We opted to refuse the sun beds as we knew we would not use them if we wanted to stay at the beach. But space was much more needed whenever you have two small kids with you.
In regard to the food: we stayed here on a B&B basis. We were a bit disappointed at the lack of fresh pressed juices, because this is what the island has at its most, and fresh juice shops are met everywhere on the 3 islands (Mahe, La Dighe and Praslin). There were excellent papaya, pineapples and melon in the buffet, but there are still much more sort of local fruits which could be equally offered as the star fruits (there were some offered as "whole" but unripe and sour as a lime!), the golden apples which are found wild every 50 m on the streets, or perhaps coconut water. The service was excellent through our favorite waiter (an hindi, I don't know his name), but the waitresses were not friendly at all. I don't understand why, but all were kind of cut with the same scissor.
We went only once to dine at the beach. The restaurant at the beach is pricey, but as we ate fish the previous days almost on a daily basis, we gave the hamburgers a try. They were awesome. We knew already, that the beef could be imported from somewhere in the world, as the only local products the Seychelles have are fish and fruits. We drove to some local eateries to avoid staying to dine the evening buffets in the hotel and found this option quite ok.
In regard to the sun beds: It was very disturbing to see how the hotel guests reserved the sun beds early morning (between 7 and 8 am). The first morning we had this bitter surprise of not having anywhere to sit, the next days I had to do the same, and this was really like unreal, I hated it. Also the beach personnel were extreme friendly the first two days, bringing you the towels, moving for you the sun beds the way you liked, bringing water and so on... We read in other trip advisor reviews that surprisingly, the beach personnel after the first 2 days, they change their behavior and start to ignore you. We could not believe that, but this also happen tu us. I did not really care, as I am very independent and like to do things by myself, but at some moments when you need a hand, there was nobody around to help. Plus, my husband forgot his flip flops at our sun bed one evening when one of our kids made a circus because she did not want to leave the pool and my husband had to carry her to our room, not thinking that he was walking bare foot. Next morning we asked the beach personnel for our flip flops, and they were gone. We know the hotel doesn't take any responsibility for lost personal items, but my god... old and used flip flops are not the world. They showed us many other forgotten items, but nothing for us.
Mmhm... The pool is small, but for small kids it is just enough.
The beach was clean, but there was a lot of seagrass. If you carry your mask and snorkel with you, give a try to swim in the direction beyond the big buoy (about 5-6 minutes swim) and you'll find a small coral reef with beautiful sea life. It's just a small area, do not expect a huge aquarium. The seagrass is frustrating, so do not give up.
There area also kayaks, diving and snorkel equipment for rent (I think for free?) to hotel guests. I could tell I saw a diving instructor with 2-3 people taking lessons in the pool.
Try to rent a car, so you can have more mobility to visit other beautiful beaches and visit other restaurants. If you plan to visit Praslin or La Digue and you get the offer from the hotel to fly with the helicopter, this is about 1.200 Euro/person to La Digue for only a 5 hour stay. We knew this information from another hotel guest. We flew indeed to Praslin with Air Seychelles for 75€ round trip/person. From Praslin we took the ferry to La Digue, a 15 minute trip for about 13 €/adult.
We would come again to Kempinski, but just for a short stay to either recover from an overseas trip, or for the last days before a long flight back home.
Hope this review is helpful.

Dear Cafemaya

Thank you for taking the time to share this very thorough review of our hotel. It is wonderful to hear that you and your family were able to enjoy your time at the beach, and to relax after your visit to the other islands.

Our spacious Hill View and Sea View Garden Suites make ideal apartments for guests travelling in family groups: the connecting doors are perfect for families with older children, while youngsters are able to sleep in the private living room. I am glad that the arrangement suited your requirements.

Thank you for sharing your remarks about our beach. Please note that due to the natural currents that occur in the area, some seaweed and coral does get washed up on the beach from time to time. Our dedicated landscaping team cleans the beach each morning but, depending on the tides, some natural debris does occasionally wash ashore during the course of the day. That said, the natural vegetation provides a safe home for countless species of colorful fish, which can be seen when making use of our complimentary snorkeling and kayaking equipment.

Thank you for your honest feedback regarding your inconsistent experience of our beach service and lack fresh, local fruits. Please be assured that I will share your comments with the rest of the team and I hope that, if ever you return to our hotel, you will find these issues have been rectified.

I do hope that one day we can welcome you and your family back to the Seychelles and back to our hotel - even if only for a short stay. Happy travels!

Dear Kamil

Thank you for sharing this glowing review of our hotel, and for choosing to share your honeymoon with us. I was pleased to learn that we were able to make your stay with us every bit as special as the two of you deserve.

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, and appreciated our very unique and beautiful location. Our secluded beach and gardens are really something that sets us apart from other hotels on the island: nestled in the foot hills of a magnificent mountain range, and surrounded by our very own private lagoon, our guests are able to enjoy a peaceful seclusion that is unique to our property, and is just "like a dream..."

I do hope that one day we can welcome you both back to the Seychelles and back to our hotel. Happy travels.

Stayed here for four nights on arrival to Mahe on our honeymoon.

The staff at the beach are excellent and attentive, smoothies, cake , water etc.throughout the day. The beach is beautiful, but hit and miss for swimming (in April anyway).

The buffet food is generally of good standard, however the dining area lacks atmosphere (no music) and has the feel of a canteen more so then a five star resort.

The daytime menu at the beach restaurant is limited, however, the quality of food is good, but expensive for what is.

I found it confusing that they provide you with champagne at the buffet breakfast, free water all day at the beach, but you must pay eight euro for water with dinner, seemed like a bit of a rip off when on a premium half board basis.

For a resort whereby most guests remain on site given its remote location, there is no sequencing from the beach to mid afternoon drinks (happy hour etc) to dinner and then on to the late evenings entertainment, hence why there is probably little uptake in the music late in the evening with most in bed by 9pm.

The different bands didn't appear to draw any more then a handful of guests each night and they were generally going through the motions, taking extensive rest breaks even though they only play for a few hours each night. Not enticing if you want to chill out and have a few drinks after dinner so it can get quite boring in the evenings given it gets dark quite early. The great staff at the cocktail bar upstairs make up for lack lustre elsewhere with the entertainment.

The bed in our room was one of the most comfortable I have been in and I travel weekly. The rooms are of good quality and the resort itself is definitely well maintained.

Everywhere else on the island is a taxi or drive away. If you plan on travelling a bit rent a car, taxis are expensive.

It was disappointing that it took the staff three days to provide our honeymoon greeting set (wine and fruit) which we paid for after multiple phone calls reception.

All in all a good hotel to stay in when you arrive to Mahe, it does have a business feel as appose to a remote paradise island and expect to pay a premium for everything.

Dear RCROG

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a thorough and balanced review of our hotel. It is wonderful to hear that we were able to provide you with such an enjoyable introduction to your honeymoon.

I am glad that you both were so well taken care of by our recreation team. Our 'boys in blue' are often recommended for their friendly and attentive beach service, providing water and refreshments to our guests while they recline on the beach. I will be sure to share your kind remarks with them.

It is also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the buffet dinners at Café Lazare. Each night of the week our buffets have a different theme to cater for different tastes and preferences, and to offer our guests a greater variety of cuisines. I am glad to hear that you appreciated this.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding our entertainment program. We always welcome feedback from our guests (whether it is positive or negative), as this is the best way for us to improve our service. I will certainly share your comments with the rest of my team and see how we can improve this aspect of our service. Just a small correction, we do have a happy hour at Planters Bar & Lounger, where our guests can enjoy two-for-one beverages daily from 5-7pm.

I do hope that one day we can welcome you back to the Seychelles and back to our hotel. Happy travels!

With the complete family of 14 persons we went to this hotel to relax as an ending of our roundtrip in tanzania. We where tired and did not liked the stay in Nairobi so we where not the nicest people at that moment.
But they managed to stay calm and helped us a lot. After the false start we saw the beauty of this hotel and it was perfect.
Everything was better then excellent. For me personal I travel more often to kempinski hotels and this is always good. Also this hotel meets the kempiski standards for 100%.
Prices are fair, the quality is perfect and the staff gets a 10+
Yes we where with a big family so easier to remember but I'm sure we where not the only ones who got this excellent service.
Diner outside with a group no problem
Private dinning, no problem
Using snorkeling items, no problem, room 512 sir?
Yes.
Virgin cocktails for the kids no problem.
Changing the recipe for a meal no problem.
So extremely friendly and nice hotel we will visit this again for sure and do more then only sitting on the beach and relax.
Next time we also see more to the island but this time the kempinski relax experience was more then enough for us at our 5 day stay.
Thank you.
