“LOVED Maison Soliel and Andrew”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I wish I had written the review "True Gem With a Host to Match" for everything he said is spot on. My husband and I stayed in the Cinnamon Suite and were absolutely charmed by our accommodations including the open air kitchen, artful decor and sense of cozy privacy. The property felt very secure within the recently built wall and decorative gate. Our travel experience was enriched tenfold via our conversations with Andrew given all that he shared about the history of Mahe and his time spent there, his art, LIFE..Do rent a car- Do go to Petite Anse..the most beautiful beach, a dream destination. Do enjoy Sunday brunch at Jardin de Roi. We visited Victoria, Beau Vallon etc and we feel the BEST of Mahe is had right here- the best beaches, one for every time of day or mood are here and Maison Soleil is the epicenter. Highly recommend it for travelers who want a simple authentic experience, who like to self cater @ a reasonable cost in a sublime setting.Rick and Marilyn, Jackson WY USA

If you want to travel to paradise, staying in relatively bargain-priced, designer surroundings, within 2 minutes of some of the best beaches on Earth, hosted by the most pleasant and knowledgeable proprietor you could ever imagine, then book this place.

Andrew Gee, is a fountain of enthusiasm, wit, stories and vast experience worldwide and within the Seychelles community. I have met many people, but have rarely enjoyed the company of one so much.

In a charming spot, at Anse Soleil,Mahe, this small, self-catering place, hosts Andrews' impressive art gallery, next to your rooms.
Anse Soleil Beach and Petit Anse Beach (go via Four Seasons...you are welcome), are a short walk. These places are world class.

However, Andrew, a very ex-pat, can tell you all you need to know about the whole country.
Believe me, he has a good story for any occassion.

He'll pick you up from the airport for free(Four Seasons charge their people £250 for the same return trip of 20 minutes!). The rooms are literally designer chic, as Andrew is a professional designer, as well as a hotel owner.

Local shops are priced as the UK, as are local restaurants. If you're splashing out, then ask Andrew where to go.

Like I said, a true gem.

Maison Soleil is set atop a hill and away from noise. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with beautiful terraces looking over trees and endless wildlife.

Andrew the owner is a charming, laid back and helpful chap, always willing to help or advise. He collected us from the airport and during the trip across the island, entertained and educated us on the local environment. He also took us to a shop to buy essentials (water, some food etc) as good shops are hard to come by in Seychelles.

This is such a pretty self catering place only a 10 or 15 minute walk from a couple of pretty beaches. It is all downhill to the beaches and definitely worth it but after the long walk back up to MS, there is no better place to relax.

If ever you need convincing that Seychelles is paradise, visit Andrew and Maison Soleil.

Also look out for Andrew's beautiful artwork.

Room Tip: Ruby (online booking through Seychelles website) is very helpful and great for advice.

Maison soleil was the perfect holiday getaway at a very reasonable cost. Clean & tastefully decorated accomodation that provided all our requirements and more as a base to explore this beautiful island. We stayed in the delightful Vanilla suite and particular features were the well appointed balcony from which we were able to observe birds, bats & tropical greenery, plus 2 showers- one open air which we found is the perfect 'man shower'!
Andrew Gee was a great host & nothing is too much trouble. His excellent local knowledge & helpfulness meant that we wasted no time locating all the many places of interest for example the wonderful Jardin de Roi restuarant which we never would have found but is a 'must'. Armed with Andrews trusty coolbox we were able to enjoy many beach adventures (Andrew arranged car rental for us) returning at the end of the day to yet more clean sheets, freshly picked flowers & fruit & a few beers on the balcony or picnic table-what more could we ask! Can't wait for a retuen visit to Maison Soleil. Thank you Andrew

We stayed in the Vanilla room and it was lovely. We enjoyed our breakfast on the balcony every morning and our afternoon drinks there as well. The whole feel for life on Mahe Island is very laid back. Nothing happens too fast here. Wonderful place to just get away and relax. The accomodations were exactly what we like in a holiday. A kitchen to make our breakfast and keep snacks in. Restaurands close by to have our dinner at. The beach was just a 5 minute drive down the road or if you don't have a car a nice walk down hill. Andrew was a very interesting person to chat with and a wealth of information. If we get back to the Seychelles in future would not hesitate to stay with Andrew again. Thank you for a wonderful break from real life.

Room Tip: The only reason I have given the sleep quality a 2 star is because the A/C unit was not working prop...

Hi Kym
thanks so much for your great review, and all the kind thing you say about Maison Soleil. I am so pleased that you really enjoyed your stay and that the 'blip' with the aircon didnt spoil the holiday. For sure it took a LOOOONG time to get it fixed! But it is now all ok! Meeting people like yourselves makes all the minor hastles and frustrations of running 'a place ín paradise' worthwhile.......
Island-time ---- tell me about it!!!!
regards
Andrew

Stayed for 5 nights during October.
Qatar airways lost our luggage and fortunately Andrew was very accomodating and prepared our room so we could check in after our early morning arrival and helped us out with everything we needed including shorts for my husband.

The accommodation was lovely and within walking distance to all the great beaches in the area. We hired a car to visit other parts of the island including Victoria and also to pick up some groceries from the bigger supermarket. We went to both local restaurants and can definitly say Marias Rock Cafe was the better quality and service however Cafe Anse Solieil had the better view.

We used the facilities of the Four Seasons hotel which has one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen although the sea wasn't as warm as I thought it might be for the Indian ocean it was cristal clear. We experienced rain every day but when the sun came out it was hot!

Andrew is a great host with endless Knowledge and information about the islands and Ruby made our booking seamless.

Hi there
thanks for the very kind review you wrote for Maison Soleil.
Its always a pleasure to help out, especially when the unexpected arrises! Lost Luggage is so annoying and stressful, but it does happen! Fortunately you need very little clothes here, so packing a swimsuit, shorts, top and underwear in your carry-on is well recommended! I do have a supply of lotions and mosquito repelants on hand to pass out in case of emergencies like this....and the pack of spare clothes you left; they have already been loaned out when someone else arrived with no luggage!!!

It is good that this experience did not spoil your enjoyment of your break in Seychelles..and thanks again for choosing Maison Soleil

Our Seychelles experience would have been very different if we hadn't come to Maison Soleil first (although I'm not really sure why it's listed as specialty lodging here; it's a self-catering guesthouse, like so many others on the islands). Andrew's effusive hospitality and extensive local knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for what he does really transformed what would have been a nice time into a memorable getaway that will be hard to beat. Internet booking was easy and efficient (thanks Ruby!), which isn't exactly the norm with most small independent self catering places around here. If you're not worried about being in the thick of Victoria (which I don't know why you would be if you're a tourist) the location is a comfy hillside nook, walkable to both Anse Soleil and Petite Soleil (well, downhill is no problem anyway). If you have a car, it's an easy drive to Anse Intendance. If not, it's nice to just stick around here. Either way, you'll feel truly welcome.
