We stayed in one of the new self contained "Bungalows", which was beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The staff were helpful and welcoming and they arranged a tailor made trip (with two stops for snorkelling in the Marine Park) to Moyenne the island owned by Brendon Grimshaw (well worth a visit). If you are with Masons they will tell you it is not possible to visit the island; this is untrue, so organise a visit privately or through a different agent. The restaurant is good and the grounds are well kept. The beach is good for snorkelling and it is worth walking to the end of the jetty at night to "fish watch" ;we saw a lemon shark and many other fascinating fish. It is dicfficult to walk around the island, which is the only drawback; however, you can borrow a canoe to paddle arond the island instead.

This hotel was sold to us as a 'Robinson Crusoe destination' and they weren't far wrong.

The hotel is set on a beautiful small island within view of the main island of Mahe and for the majority of your time there you wouldn't know there was another hotel on the island or a smattering of locals living there. We had the pleasure of kayaking around the island one afternoon (recommended although avoid going round the north end of the island unless you are strong enough to battle the tide and waves which are a bit stronger here - turn around and go back the way you came) and it is the best way to appreciate the scenery, the marine park's crystal clear waters and the proximity of the other islands (although again far enough away to not be noticed for most of your stay).

The hotel itself is run by a fantastic lady Delta who was helping me with my enquiries via e-mail before I even got on the plane. On arrival, at an antisocial 4am, after a nightmare journey due to faults with the plane, we were met by James and his boat to whisk us to the island and were greeted by the friendly reception staff and Delta herself. This personal service was to stay with us the whole time when we felt like we were staying in somebody's home rather than an impersonal hotel. Whenever we needed to arrange anything, the reception staff easily did it with a smile and because the hotel is so small, if they needed to, they would search you out on the beach or in the restaurant to make sure you got the message.

The room was faultless - I took the advice of a previous reviewer on here and requested an upstairs room which is a top tip that I would recommend. The rooms were spacious and clean with fresh hibiscus flowers dotted around the room each day. There was air conditioning but it never quite got the room cool enough for me but I am somebody who normally gets very warm at night.

As for the rest of the hotel, special mention should go to the restaurant staff who were the friendliest people I met. Even when busy, the food was served with a smile and without too much of a wait. I found the portions just right (especially given the heat) but those with bigger appetites may occasionally still feel peckish at the end of a meal - but don't worry there are regular buffets which should help satisfy these folk. The food was always fresh and beautifully presented - breakfast was a fruit plate, eggs cooked your way and as much toast and cereal as you can manage. Dinner was a three course meal with a choice of two starters, two mains and a dessert. Buffet nights always had a fresh fish, choice of cooked meat dish (curry or similar) and a more international dish, often pasta, along with piles of different salads and bread. There was also a dessert or two. A previous reviewer mentioned the delay in getting food - things are slightly more 'relaxed' in the Seychelles and once you adjust to the change of pace and remember you are on holiday, it really isn't an issue (just don't go when starving hungry). I also should mention the coconut ice-cream which tasted so fresh with real bits of coconut in it - pure heaven!

For evening entertainment, you are left to your own devices. I took note of the previous review here which mentioned the fish watching on the jetty. Yet another top tip - we saw many different fish including a manta ray (twice!) and a small shark.

With the boat able to take you over to Mahe at regular times during the day, it is worth going to Victoria if you want any gifts or just to see the real way of Seychellois life. We didn't do any other excursions mainly because it is very easy to just relax and unwind at L'Habitation and you lose the desire to do anything other than recline by the pool with the occasional dip in the sea. we had wanted to go to Moyenne on the glass bottom boat but discovered it was booked up several days in advance and we couldn't fit it in (this wasn't helped by being there at Christmas when unsurprisingly everything stops on the 25th). If you want to do this trip - which looked amazing - I would recommend booking it in when you arrive to save disappointment.

We had the most relaxing trip to the Seychelles staying the whole time at L'Habitation. If you want to unwind, in a small hotel with everything within about 10 metres on what feels like your own private island without being as remote as others in the area, this is the place for you.

We stayed at one of the upstairs rooms of this charming little hotel (if I counted correctly, there were ten double rooms in the main building plus four or five bungalows) for 8 nights.

Positive:
- pretty rooms, nice balconies - especially the upper/front ones of the main building
- very good food at night!
- free boat transfer to Mahé, several times a day
-well-organized and efficiently run hotel (two tough business ladies doing a good job of managing the place!)
-you have the island almost to yourself - lots of little beaches and places to snorkel everywhere - you are sometimes by yourself for hours not running into any other people (lots of crabs and other little animals though)
-nightly 'fish-watching' together with other hotel guests from the boat jetty was fun
- reasonable prices considering the remote location and high Seychelles prices in general

Not so positive / could use some improvement:

-While the food at dinner was excellent, the breakfast was not what I imagined on a tropical island - the 'buffet' was a joke. The biggest disappointment was the sugary juice from a carton instead of fresh fruit juices! The 'plate of fruit' mentioned here in another review was always very small - also not what you imagine when you travel to such a destination...
-The delicious desserts at night were also tiny, so if you like sweet things - bring a stash of cookies with you - there is nothing you can buy on the island!
-Swimming at low tide is not really possible - the water is very very shallow everywhere (and full of algae)
- the sand fleas are a pain in the neck - but I think they're everywhere, not just on Cerf Island

We were greeted with a nice tropical welcome drink and sat in the lobby to fill out the form while our bags were carried upstairs to our room. Then the lovely hostess came up and gave us a thorough tour of our room and explained how everything worked. Free air con, safe, coffee, tea. A minibar with great prices. The room could use some tiny upgrades, like a bathplug, and replacing the whole hanging system for the shower head so you can actually hang it up. The front desk service was what really set this hotel apart from the rest. They voluntarily made reservations for our ferries and booked a taxi to get us from one wharf to the next. They were so helpful with all our questions and always made us feel very welcome. When we found an errror on our bill they instantly corrected it without question.
The hotel grounds were amazing. Very well manicured without being overdone. Geckos, lizards and birds all over the place. The snorkelling in front of the hotel was fantastic! We saw rays, seahorses and tons of unique fish.
The food was in general, above average. Our first night there was a buffet prepared by the lady chef and it was Amazing! She made the best red snapper I've ever tasted! The breakfast was very nice too, a plate of fruit to start, then croissants, toast and eggs done to order, plus bacon. and a cereal, coffee, tea and juice buffet.

Stayed here for 4 nights to explore the Marine Park. The main hotel was fully booked so we were offered a junior suite costing a little more - good move. The main room had a huge comfy bed, TV, fridge, kettle with tea & coffee( no milk, but we were allowed to take a small jug of milk from breakfast).

Breakfast good, juice fruit platter, bacon & eggs, toast & jam, tea & coffee.

Evening meals were either buffet or a pre chosen 3 course dinner, for 20euro each.House wine OK at 15 euro for half litre. Hotel is right on the beach, a clean pool, plenty of loungers. Regular free tranfers to the mainland to visit Victoria/Mahe. No longer provide a free tour of the Marine Park but can organise a trip for 40euro for the boat, so get a group together to share the cost. This takes you around the islands, time to snorkel over a stunning coral feef teeming with fish, and landing on Moyenne to meet Brendon!

we stayed at L'Habitation for one night in November 2005. It offers excellent value for money in the Seychelles. Our room was in the main building on the first floor, large with a balcony overlooking the sea (all the rooms have balconies/patios it seems, but you may want to request a first floor room for better views of the sea/beach and more privacy). large bathroom with tub and handheld shower. take your own shampoo as they do not provide it.
pool small and not very inviting, didn't look sparkling. beach ok. our main purpose for staying here was to go snorkelling in the marine park, and the hotel provided us with boat transport over there at no cost, and collected us later. snorkelling a bit of a disappointment, no coral due to tsunami damage but plenty of fish life. there was a bit of a current, so make sure you have fins.
food was tasty, little choice but fresh and nicely presented.
service good, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

this is a nice, clean mid range hotel that offers good value for money in the Seychelles.
