“AZURA - UNSPOILED LUXURY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

This is a wonderful resort for people who want to totally get away from things. The beaches are 100% unspoiled - nobody selling you things in fact during an 8 day stay in January we only saw a couple of people walking along the beach! The staff are lovely and i especially like the fact they have trainees who are so lovely helping their staff as part of a project. Great for celebrities. Don't expect internet in the rooms as there isn't any except for one room in the main hotel - this is a good thing! it makes you totally relax! every room has a pool. Each Saturday the locals have a football match and we were the guests of honour cheering on the Azura football team sponsored by the hotel! They are really good too! i recommend the snorkelling and the fishing. great fun!
worth every penny

Room Tip: there is a presidential villa - that does have wifi however standard rooms are really amazing

We visited the Island in October 2012. We had 6 days here as part of an amazing honeymoon. The villa we stayed in was excellent and our butler and team did everything to make the stay wonderful, from dinners on the beach, to private meals in our villa.
The food was good. We had been spolit by 5 days in the Cape Winelands, so not in the same fine dining league, but never the less was very good, as the chef's used local twists on familar ideas. The sea, beach and tide were amazing, and the trip out to the islands and dune lunch, showed the stunning scenery to it full. Lovely people and a great place to chill.

As soon as your helicopter transfer lifts off from Vilanculo airport to take you across the crystal clear waters to Benguerra Island, you know something very special awaits. There are only 16 villas (I think) and this is a really tranquil, relaxing location with exceptional service provided by your own personal butler. Nothing was too much trouble and we could choose to take meals either in the restaurant of privately in our villa. You are able to do as much or little as you wish during your stay. The management team are always available to answer any queries. With only a small number of guests this really is a top class destination. We felt totally relaxed within a few hours of arrival. Many thanks to Thomas the general manager and Lino our splendid butler who contributed to a memorable stay.
The resort has also been developed with the full co-operation of the local community, to create a sustainable development in balance with the local environment.
We can't wait to return.

Wow - totally amazing place to stay. After a great helicopter ride, you arrive to your villa and are greeted by your own butler. The villa was utter amazing - huge room, comfortable large bed with the linen changed frequently and great outside showers and free standing bath. Our butler Pedro was superb - from bringing us tea in the morning to catering to our fussy food choices!!!! The locals who work there have a lovely manner and really understand customer service. We certainly used the infinity pools to cool down in the afternoon, before being served a gin and tonic at sunset. We will definately be back again!!!!!

Part of an amazing African trip - 4 days 'Skeleton Coast Safar'i in Namibia then 7 days for a beach holiday in Azura, Benguerra Island Mozambique. Fantastic! Go and book it today.....

Very difficult to review as everyone has different criteria. We loved it - small number of rooms, very low key guests, definitely not ritzy glitzy 'footballers wives'.... go to Dubai or Maldives if you want that. Lots to do..... deep sea fishing, snorkelling, deserted beach dining or chilled beach side lunching / dining. Nothing too much for the staff.

Great local Mozambique staff - hello to Arao, :) all the staff at the star bar/water sports and general staff. Fantastic service from the cleaning ladies - we arrived with a week's worth of dirty safari clothes and it arrived back within 24 hrs - with a smile! Thank you for making our holiday one to remember!

Best wishes to Thomas and his team.

Happy New Year.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the Infinity Villas - excellent choice

We finished a three week trip to Southern Africa with 6 nights in the Azura. My expectations were high as the website is fabulous so I was expecting great things. It came up to the mark.

This is a very service orineted hotel and you feel well cared for. From impromptu star gazing to the most professional diving operation I've used in some time. The staff are all really firendly and the hotel does a great deal of good with its charity work for the island. The food is excellent and the system of being looked after by one "butler" for your stay is great - go Pedro!

The room was lovely and the plunge pool just outside was one of the best places to see the local bird life as they came everyday to bathe. They were a hoot and a half and it was so easy to get great photographs. If you get the opportunity please go and watch the hotel football (soccer) team play. A group of six of us went. I usually hate the game but this was such fun, from the flexible side lines to the woment gossiping and the kids playing and the men putting in some good moves on the pitch. What a blast.

THe way I measure these things is by the return test - would I go back, absolutely!

I've been traveling across Africa, been in many places, called itself "luxury boutique hotel" or similar words. Azura Benguera call itself is one of them, I've visited in November. The place itself is unique, surrounded by National Marine Park, crystal clear waters of Mozambique Channel, sandy beaches and warm sun is shining all day long...

The main features of luxury-class beach hotel for me is a comfortable bungalow or villa, attentive service, which knows my wishes in advance, the best quality and varied food and drinks, different kinds of activities. Let's see what Azura offering.

The first impression of Azura was great, the place is wonderfull, good meeting, welcome drinks and villas pool we liked. On closer examination, the conditioner was partly broken, there was no announced internet in villa, but in the reception zone was very poor, staff was attentive but dressed in torn T-shirts, which seems inappropriate, definately not about luxury. My outfits came back from loundry the same as when I was taking them, just ironed, looks like was just rinsed in water. But the most dissapointing was food, it's just a shame, overcooked seafood and fish, fries and sodden rice with peas and carrots. The problem is that you can not eat anywhere else except Azura. At a cost of $ 800 per day per person, this is not acceptable and it is only a problem of management. Disorders of the cook smoothed by great personality - Butler Abel, who was trying to make our stay as pleasant.

And yet, sunset cruise, which is included - a traditional wooden boat - Dhow, covered with towels, where you having your 1 hour seawalk with a fish smelly atmosphere, drinking wine, but the plastic glasses, seems, also appeals to luxury. Guys, there are a number of great places, like Zanzibar, Mnemba, Diani, etc. which gives you much more different conception of luxury for even less amount of money.
