“Perfect venue for a holiday”

We were lucky enough to spend a week at Indigo bay and while we were there we were two of only six guests in the whole resort (caters for 114). So we were soooo spoilt. We ate when wanted and the chef would tweak the menu for us. We went snorkeling and fishing. Ate and drank way too much and lived like kings. This is a place of absolute beauty and must be seen to be appreciated. I cannot say enough about how good this place is. .....do yourself a favour and just go!!!!!!♥♥♥

OK, first I must admit that we had been booked to stay are nearby Marlin Lodge for 7 days, but it burn down in a brush fire the week prior to us arriving of the New Years holiday. So...we were thankful that our agent was able to secure accommodation at Indigo Bay on a nearby island.

Perhaps because we had chosen the much smaller and quieter Marlin Lodge, we were a bit disappointed at the Club Med-like feel of this resort. Thirty or forty units here compared to 10 at Marlin.

That said, the resort is well maintained and operated. Rooms (beach chalets) are right on the beach edge as advertised. I would add that the interior of the chalets seems to be a bit dated - circa 1990s Florida style - compared to the more authentic island feel I would have preferred.

However - at $1,000 per person per day - I didn't really feel as though we got our money's worth. Yes, it is all inclusive of all food and beverage. And they do a nice job with meals.

That said, $2000 per night for a couple is a bit much for this experience. This can't compete with Bora Bora, for example. Also, this place is more for families with children. That wasn't us - so no fault to the resort. It would be a great place to let the kids and teenagers be occupied with with wide selection of activities available.

Again - a very nice place but as this was not where we originally intended to stay, it turned out to not be what we were expecting.

My Family and I had 8 heavenly days in December 2012. I have never had a more relaxing trip and been looked after so well by the staff who were friendly efficient but also very aware of giving you your privacy. The General manager Andy made certainly daily that we were being looking after and was very attentive which was no mean feat as the property was very busy.
We had some of the best snorkeling I have ever done in terms of variety of fish species at Paradise island.
The Food was amazing and sadly I still had to contend with Christmas after already eating my self into a frenzy on the island.
We did a fishing excursion where we caught all manner of fish including yellow fin tuna king fish black tipped shark dorado and my 12 year old son landed a +- 100kg Zambezi Shark which took 1.5 hours to get to the boat before we released it .The skipper and his mate were very attentive and this was a high light for my son and I.
I would not hesitate to recommend Indigo Bay to anyone.

We recently stayed at Indigo Bay Resort and Spa - this being our third time visiting the island. We had a fantastic time and could not fault the resort, its management and staff on anything. The waiters and room hands were extremely efficient and friendly, and there was always a management person visible at meals and during busy periods (check in, check out). The GM, Andy Conn, was very friendly, hands on and friendly and nothing was too much to ask. The attention to detail that we noticed within the resort and the team has to be mentioned and this is a sure sign of a strong team leader. We could not find anything specific to complain about and looking at the various other comments on TripAdvisor relating to the food, it has to be noted that nothing is locally grown on the island and they have to contend with extreme heat and low tides which does not make it easy to receive fresh goods - in light of this, we found the food to be exceptional, well presented, tasty and plenty of it. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone who wants to visit mozambique, and we would like to thanks Andy Conn and his exceptional team for such a wonderful stay with lifelong memories.

Room Tip: Bay view villas have fantastic views, and their own plunge pools, so they are a little more privat...

We spent 5 nights at Indigo Bay Resort and spa in December 2012 in a beach chalet. The resort and beach is beautiful but the the beach was certainly more rocky than what the resort website photos actually showed. We were also told that our chalet was on the beach but since the resort aimed at making the chalets as private as possible, some of the "beach chalets" (like ours) are set back from the beach. Although not far, we were a little disappointed that we were not actually on the beach as indicated on the website.
The staff at the resort were absolutely wonderful! More attentive, polite, professional and accommodating, we could not have asked for. Management, on the other hand were not as forthcoming or present. We saw the resort manager on our arrival and again on our departure but were advised by someone in the know that the resort had be bought out by new owners....perhaps the reason for the low profile.
The resort was quite full but one never felt as though you were ontop of one another and most of our time on the beach was spent under our own designated beach boma with no one else in sight. The beach is very long with a wonderful walk to the diving spot "nursery cove". We snorkel led at the spot but were disappointed so would suggest that you take the hotel boat trip and eat dropped off further into the ocean to snorkel.
The "tranquility pool" is just below the reception area and supposed to be a quiet serene place for adults to read and relax (there is in fact a large notice erected alongside the pool to this effect) however, while lying at the pool on a number of occasions, we were rudely and loudly interrupted by a father and his 5 year old son doing running dives and splash bombs into the pool. After the second occasion, my husband suggested to management that they remove the sign as it simply gives one a false expectation.....our complaint fell on deaf ears.
There is another large infinity pool at the main restaurant area of "club navale" which is specifically designated for children and families. The view from club navale is spectacular, as are the cocktails served throughout the day.
I would definitely suggest the full board option which is the package we chose as I can imagine it would get rather pricey on half board.
The area is a malaria area but since it is considered a low risk area and we were only going for 5 nights we decided to forego prophylactics and just be over cautious with Tabbard, citronella bands and citronella patches and long cotton light colored clothes in the evenings. The resort also does a diesel fog of the whole resort about three times a week. My husband and I probably each got two mosquito bites in total so were happy with our decision. The rooms are really good with the bathroom having fold back doors/windows so you can bath in privacy and semi-outside, there is also an outdoor shower. The staff, including housekeeping were very attentive and accommodating. The food was certainly five star quality and standard as was the service from the restaurant staff. The "activities" staff do approach you every night (and some mornings) to ask which activities you will be taking part in.....we wanted the laziest holiday so eventually made them make a note that we would be doing absolutely nothing except beach activities on our own.
All in all we and a wonderful stay and the 12seater flight there and the 6 seater flight back were very exciting.....however, the malaria factor was always in the back of our minds and it was a bit of a damper having to lotion up and put on long clothes in the gloriously warm evenings.....next time I think prophylactics will be an option. The best was swimming in the warm ocean for hours on end...my advice...take Rock shoes for the beach swims...they proved hugely beneficial.
This is a remote island getaway for those who really want to get a break from the fast-paced lifestyle...but if you need to, the hotel's WiFi worked well from our hammock and most places in the hotel...especially club Naval.

Room Tip: Ask for a chalet directly on the beach...altHough its only about ten meters to the beach from the ha...

We spent eight days at Indigo Bay over new year, and had the most fabulous time. The scenery is amazing, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food is fabulous. While the trip to Paradise Island is a must, the snorkelling was a little disappointing. Despite the resport being full, the beach was practically deserted. The effort and ingenuity that went into making new year's eve special was much appreciated. And we really liked the fact that the resort employs local people and contributes to the local school/village. The only draw-backs were the lack of seating around the main pool, and the 'toddlers from hell' who managed to cry their way through almost every meal. The highlight? Definately, the fly-in experience. Nothing quite like it on a beautiful day.
The lowlight? Air Mozambique (LAM) - to be avoided at all cost.

Room Tip: Make sure you know where your room is located. We thought we were booked on the beach front and were...
