“Quiet rooms with nice views”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

Quiet clean room, awesome views, a little cold and damp (probably because of the cold mountain air). Nice wood-burning stove in social space. Generous breakfast. Random access through a neighbouring Riad. Very friendly staff.

A very friendly, family riad. It's absolutely comfortable, has spacious rooms with everything you need and a great view on top. I believe most of the rooms have balconies with the most awesome scenery outside.

BUT!! Since this riad is located up the hill and away from the road, it's impossible to find. The easiest way is to call the riad and to ask them to send someone to meet you at the bridge, once in Imlil. GPS coordinates in this would be very helpful.

ALSO!! The trail to the riad (it's not close to the road) has a lot of stairs and up-hill walking, so if you have small children or not in very good health, getting to the riad might be a challenge. We are quite fit, but were almost out of breath by the time we got to the door. You might think of booking at Dar Imlil instead (it is situated lower on the mountain and they both have the same owner).

The only minor point, was the breakfast. It was on the poor side, but enough to keep you going.

Room Tip: Non-standard rooms are larger.

A perfect base for exploring Imlil and the High Atlas, this Riad is exceptional value for money but also fairly luxurious. Highlights include a very large panoramic roof terrace for stargazing, a comfy breakfast / dining room with views out over Imlil, and friendly helpful staff.

Based on the reviews from Tripadvisor and booking.com we had high hopes and expectations. We found the Riad to be a mixed bag. Some aspects were great, others were very much lacking. I would not give this Riad an excellent rating and really thought it was somewhere between average and very good but gave it a very good rating. We booked an adventure package through this riad and found it a great experience but totally over priced given the set of accommodations we were provided on the three day package. Despite previous ratings we read, we were not provided free cookies or tea; we did not have a balcony room and think we were given a small room and not the family room even though there were 4 of us. The terrace and pictures presented on various web sites are mis-leading and the terrace was seriously in a need of a major renovation and decoration. The riad was definitely authentic and in a beautiful setting but did not find it had much charm. The staff was kind and pleasant and the food was good and plentiful. I would recommend the riad, but not sure I would make a special trip to get to it unless you are going to be in the Toubkal national park. We found the riad good but a bit of a let down based on previous reviews. The following are the pluses and minuses:

+ Authentic Moroccan / Berber Riad
+ The views are too die for. Simply beautiful
+ Dinner was decent value for money and good and plentiful
+ Breakfast was plentiful and even had freshly squeezed orange juice
+ We liked the rosemary liquid soap in the bathroom (they need to sell it at the riad)

- No place to hang anything (no closet,no rack and no hangers). We had back packs so not a huge deal but we couldn't even hang up a towel.
- Some of the stairs leading to the riad were seriously in bad shape and looked like if there was a good rain / snow they would be washed away
- Be wary if you plan to use your Visa card, it might be useful to have enough cash as a back up.
- If you have a family insure you get the family room
- Ask for a balcony, we didn't have one.

If you are looking for a backpackers paradise then this is it. It is reasonable priced, friendly, great breakfast and better than average rooms. However, if you are looking for something that is cozy and that is a chic bed and breakfast then this is probably not going to meet the mark.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony

Excellent value hotel. Clean, with good facilities. Very good location for hiking out from. Slightly dodgy electrics in the overhead lights! Plenty of hot water and amazing views over the mountains. Access to the hotel is up a fairly steep track and uneven steps so if you have any mobility problems it might be a bit tricky to get there. The views from the roof terrace are breathtaking and the breakfast served is excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were more than happy to arrange good value transfers from the hotel back to the airport in Marrakech.

Room Tip: All rooms have lovely views but try for one with a balcony.

Our 2 nights here proved to be the highlight of our 8 day trip to morocco. Lovely hosts, amazing home cooked food and its well worth paying the little bit extra for a room with a view of mount toubkal. Waking up to that view each morning will get your day off to a good start. The riad is clean, in a great location and has a roof terrace you wont want to leave. If you're doing a self drive to imlil ignore everyone who tells you the parking place is in their driveway, call the riad and they'll send someone to show you the way as its hard to find

We had a fabulous stay here for a few nights in April and were very impressed with Abdul and his management of this quite big operation. Overall this place was incredible value since I believe we were paying around 25 quid per night. (Dinner was 100dirhams per person, also a good deal). There are actually two riads next to each other managed by the same family, of which Riad Atlas Toubkal is the nicer one (and slightly higher up the hill), but you have the option of eating in either and lounging where you like. We had a nice room with a great view of the valley and waterfall strength shower (which we really needed after hiking to the refuge!). We had dinner at the hotel both nights (you choose when you want to eat) and really enjoyed the food-- soup and then either a very hearty couscous or tagine. We were able to hike to the Refuge at the base of the Toubkal peak, which we really enjoyed and is very do-able in April with no special gear (we wore sneakers). The hotel sent us with a packed lunch, and they could have gotten us a guide but it was pretty straightforward to find our way.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony/deck.
