A friend and I stayed in Jamal's guesthouse after climbing the toubkal. Jamal is extremely hospitable and accommodating. The guesthouse is really nice and the views are amazing particularly at breakfast time on the roof top terrace. There is a room downstairs with a fire place which is warm, the rest of the house was quite cold in march but there were plenty of blankets in the room so it was nice a cosy. It's a short walk out of town which places you in what feels like the 'real' Moroccan country side. It is simply magical!

We stayed here in early April, and it was very cold as the house has no heating. However, we were made very welcome by Jamal and his staff, and the house is newly renovated and beautifully furnished. We had a twin bedded room with private bathroom, the beds were very comfortable with superb fluffy duvets which we needed for the cold! This would be a wonderful place to stay in summer, but we were not prepared or equipped for the cold at 2000 metres!

Room Tip: Any twin or double

We had the privilege of being one of the first guests at the riad as it had only just been finished. We met Mountain Guide Jamal, one of brothers who own the guesthouse, in the Guides Office in Imlil when we first arrived. He arranged all our mules and porters at very competitive rates and asked us if we’d like to stay in the guesthouse as we weren’t heading out until the following day.

One of the guy’s was sent off to check it out and came back full of praise.

The Guesthouse is on the hill above the main village with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. We were there in mid April as we’d been told the valleys were lush but we also wanted plenty of snow as we intended to do some winter climbing. This did mean that as soon as the sun went down, it turned pretty cold. A fire in the dining room and thick duvets on the beds were both very welcome.

By the time we returned a few days later, it was noticeably warmer at night.

The guesthouse caters for couples, groups and backpackers so is very flexible. There’s one double and two twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms plus a six bed bunk room where we stayed.

We had a look in all the rooms with the possible intention of bringing partners back another time. The double looked like the best room but only by a fraction. The twin with a bath was good too. As for our room, we had enormous bunk beds, fat mattresses, thick duvets and a superb en-suite shower room. The shower took a few minutes to warm up but was lovely and hot when it did.

Best of all was the roof terrace: a great space to have breakfast, to pack gear and to lounge about admiring the view.
