“Very comfy after a tough trek”

This refuge is quite a sight for sore eyes, when you finally reach the base camp. It has rooms for rent or you can just pay for a bath and have a soda while your phone or camera charges! The interiors are neater than you would expect in such a remote place, and nothing beats a can of pringles at 3200 m!

This place was a wonderful experience on the way to Mt. Toubkal.
It is located on the end of the village Imlil directly on the way upwards. The name refuge might be misleading because it´s more a hostel than a refuge, but still the price including a delicious 3 course dinner and a breakfast (235 DRH) is absolutly fair (or its a democratic price as the Maroccans like to say) if not to say cheap.
Their hospitality was just extraordinary, everything is absolutely clean and on European standards.
I really felt great at that place which was so peaceful and quiet and on that huge teracce you have a gorgeous view over the whole valley.
On the way back I could not resist to stay for another night to relaxe a bit from the ascent to Mt. Toubkal before going back to Marrakesch.
I really recommend this place.

Room Tip: I love the room with an direct access to the teracce.

The Refuge is just in the right place to get used to the altitude before ascending the summit. There are usually lots of people inside, but there are plenty of tables so You won't have problem finding one for You. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms also. There is a good restaurant inside, so You don't need to bring Your own food.

Just arrived in Imlil we have been approached by a guy who organized for us a (too) quick ascent of mount Toubkal (all included) and according to the staff of the refuge retained too much money for himself. We left Imlil at 1pm and arrived at the refuge at 6pm. We were surprised by the high standard of the refuge. It looks brand new. Of course it was cold everywhere except the dining room, very confortable. Staff was very kind, we have been provided with a lot of blankets (we had no sleeping bag). There were only ten more trekkers in the refuge so we had one large bedroom with 20 beds all for us. Hot shower is free and working well if you are brave enough to undress in the freezing bathroom. We had an incredibly good dinner all toghether: chicken tajine, lentil soup and very good bread (if you are vegetarian you should tell in advance). Unfortunately we didn't sleep well because of the bed; it was too cold to try the other 18 beds. Breakfast was very good and energetic; we filled up ourselves before the climb. You can buy mineral water, chocolate and chips. For our trekking we hired crampons, mountaineering boots, snow gloves and axes; you have to arrange that before leaving Imlil.

I stayed last friday in Annexe les mouflons, and have been wramly welcomed by a very nice guy, and had a tea on the terrace with a wonderful view, then a night on a room looking more like an hotel room that a lodge, and then breakfast under the trees on another terrace. Very charming!
Then on saturday, I hiked to Refuge Toubkal les mouflons, where I spent the afternoon, the evening and the night, had a very good and consistent dinner, with very welcoming people. The place is clean, nice, look like a big French Refuge, but with a lot of space in it, and clean toilets and shower. It looks more like a lodge than a refuge to my french eyes, but the price is clear (which is not so common in Morocco).* The only thing that reminds you that you're in a refuge are the big dorms with a lto of promiscuity, but that's how it works in the mountains...
I have organized everything from France and have been delighted by my stay.
Even at 2 AM when I wanted to go out to climb the Toubkal, someone opened me the door without any problem, wishing me good luck with a smile even in the middle of his night. This makes the difference.

Ideal place to reach Toubkal peak. We stayed 1 night here and had a hot shower at 3,200m. The place organised transfers from airport to Imlil, the 4 nights in Imlil and Toubkal, breakfast and dinner and transfer to Marrakech afterwards.
We also stayed in Imlil for 3 nights at Annex les Mouflons which was really nice and relaxing before and after the climb. The food was excellent and different each day.

I arranged pick up from Marrakesh, accomodation at the annexe in Imlil and 3 nights at the refuge all via email from the UK. It was excellent to be all organised and to have such helpful communication with the refuge. The annexe is fantastic, mint tea on arrival and our own personal Passepartout ( Adi`s suggestion , not mine!) . A fire burned all evening in the lounge while we watched uk movies on a flat screen tv!

Next morning we met the mule , also prearranged, to aid us up to the refuge. A guide walked with us as he would be spending the next 10 days working at the refuge.

The refuge is huge and there was only around 12 guests there while we stayed but it holds 180!

The food was delicious, hot and plenty and served in the lounge/ dining room which is heated by a huge log burner. Soup and bread to start with enough for at least 3 bowls each, we felt we had to make best effort to clear it!
Next was a tagine with varying contents but always plenty and sizzling! Dessert would be oranges or a mousse, all quite amazing considering we were at 3200m!
Only complaint, if any, is that the lounge sometimes got too hot, one night it was 26.c. It must be difficult to control the heat but the wood was plentiful and free of charge.
The bedrooms are cooler than the lounge, the measured temperature during my stay was 3.c with frost forming on the inside of the windows but +3.c shouldnt be a problem for the type of people who would choose to stay at the refuge. There are blankets and pillows provided .

Breakfast was the usual continental of bread, cheese, jam , coffee, mint tea and one morning we had chocolate spread!
There is a well stocked shop with plenty water and fizzy drinks if the palate needs a change.

The staff are only too helpful to offer guidance and advice on conditions and walks from the refuge. Toubkal is a reasonably easy to navigate 7 hour round trip from the refuge
On our return a mule was arranged and we were hastened out of the hut so as not to be late meeting the muleteer. A taxi took us back to the bedlam of Marrakesh, my only regret being that we didnt spend an extra night at the refuge.

I must mention the toilet facilities. Although there was a western toilet it didnt flush but a bucket was available to fill from a ( very) nearby tap to flush with. We were offered showers but this did involve some juggling of gas bottles and we decided not to put the guides to the trouble.

Overall an excellent facility in an excellent location. Lets not forget this is a mountain refuge at 3200m with no road or cable car supply facility. Everything that comes up here is by mule!
