Stayed in room 204 overlooking the sea between Jan 21st-Feb 2nd to celebrate my 50th birthday with my boyfriend,I was made a fuss of,from the table decorations on the reserved table for dinner, sang happy birthday to me twice & a cake brought it,though BF had to pay £25 for flowers in our room.

Liked the omlettes cooked to order & crispy bacon, took our own teabags, but tried their tea & it was ok.Usually waited until 230pm to have ham & cheese toasties or the odd burger,we found dinner ok,liked the set menu as I tried things I probably wouldn`t have tried if I only had a buffet option.Water, soft drinks(in fridge) & beverages replenished daily as part of A.I.Mixed the Rose wine with lemonade to make it drinkable.

Rooms cleaned to a good standard, don`t shut the patio door fully if you`re on the balcony,it locks & you can`t get back in(Thanks to the couple below us who rang reception to rescue us)A/Con worked well.

Virtually all the staff are male & the majority were polite, helpful & seemed to enjoy chatting with the guests.

We booked a taxi via reception, nice driver called `Maan`he took us on a 9hr tour of the Island which covered most of the East,South & West places to visit including Walking with Lions at Casala, black river gourge,waterfalls,7 colours, hindu statues/place of worship, he was knowledgable & would stop at various beauty spots & offer to take photos of you. This trip was far cheaper than the Virgin South Tour & you could stay as long/short as you wished when not in a group.
Booked taxi to take us to do the `Bubble Walk`(walking on the sea bed)saw coral & beautiful fish wearing an old fashioned helmet & airline.Enjoyed this, but not long enough,15mins approx on the sea bed, rest of the time the staff getting you to pose for photos so they can sell the CD to you as soon as you surface. It was very much like a production line, literally all holding onto each other in one line,a complaint to reception on our return was dealt with immediantly,500 Rupees returned & an offer of another seabed walk for free, which we declined.Still cheaper than Virgin.

Always got a sun lounger on the beach from 11a.m onwards, beach hawkers enjoyed a friendly chat & a repetitive "No Thanks" eventually sent them elsewhere. The best place to snorkel off the beach is to the left, where one or two small boats are usually anchored.Reef shoes are a must,we bought ours beforehand, but they can be bought from a local shop or ordered from the licenced lady beach hawker. My BF had his taken from the beach & they weren`t handed in.Suncream is very expensive at the local shops as well as the hotel,so take plenty with you.

Flora, fauna, birdlife beautiful. We had rain showers which were refreshing & it soon got out hot & sunny again, few days of cloud & wind, was told it was due to the Cyclone near Madacascar. We arrived home with fantastic tans.

This hotel was a lot smaller than we usually stay in,but I preferred it,everyone has more time to attend to you.Whatever we asked for,we got, whether it was extra pillows or coat hangers.Would`ve been nice to have had shower gel, shampoo & conditioner in the shower for A.I.
I got bitten many times when we walked from the hotel to the village & at night,so I`s suggest wearing insect repellent, but I was ok on the beach. Our room did have a lot of tiny ants crawling everywhere, they liked dirty coffee/tea cups & glasses left on the unit so we rinsed them out.

I didn`t see any teenagers & only two toddlers on our last day or many young couples, mainly mature couples/groups of retired folks, which the entertainment is certainly geared towards.

All in all,a very quiet location, relaxing holiday & far better than I thought it was going to be.

BTW,perfume is cheaper to buy at the Mauritius airport than if you fly via Dubai, but Cigarettes are a lot cheaper in Dubai than Mauritius.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Room Tip: Room 204,overlooked pool & sea, plam trees outside balcony,so could watch the pretty birds close...

My wife Gill and I have just returned from a fortnight at the Silver Beach Hotel. Think we were there at the same time as NessMidlands! We found the staff most helpful and friendly, nothing was to much trouble. The room (beach view second floor) was plenty big enough. Air conditioned, and kept spotlessly clean. Hanging wardrobes and some drawer space. The en-suite was large but did not have a bath. Food was truly second to none, the hotel was I believe 3 star but the food could have graced a 5 star establishment. The gardens and beach had sufficient padded sunbeds with either thatched shade or canvas sun shades. Tables and chairs were also available for those who liked to have them. The pool was large enough, deep enough, though not for diving and again kept very clean, Water sports enthusiasts were well catered for with flippers snorkels and masks, Pedalos, single and two person canoes. There was a Glass bottomed boat available at cost and trips could be taken to the island across the bay at a reasonable cost. Trips out and taxi hire could also be arranged by the guys at the reception desk. All in all a great time was had by every one we spoke to. Some couples were on there 12th visit many others had returned 3 and 4 times, would we return, you bet we would!

Room Tip: With the patio doors open the sea could be heard, which for us was great, can't hear much surf h...

We recently spent 2 weeks at Silver Beach and it was a relaxing, enjoyable holiday. The staff were really friendly and helpful and hard working and the hotel was spotlessly clean.
Food was fantastic;great choice at breakfast from bacon, sausage, eggs every which way, omlettes, pancakes, pastries, croissants, cereals, fresh fruit, yogs, ham, cheese, toast ( what a great choice). Lunchtime was buffet style with a pasta dish, stir fries, fish or meat, loads of salads and puddings. If you were too full from breakfast you could wait for snacks at 2.30pm and have burgers or toasties and at 3pm cake and coffee. Evening meal was alternate buffet and set meal. The set meal consisted of a starter, soup, meat or fish dish ( people also had veggie option) and yummy puddings;especially the chocolate choux bun swans and lemon meringue! We enjoyed things like pork loin, fillet of beef, tuna and it was well presented. There was a couple of themed nights - Italian with lasagne, pizzas, jacket pots, pasta and minestrone and lots of choices of curries on Indian night. Everything was freshly cooked and hot! No luke warm mushy food!
The bar opened at 10am through til 12 in the eve and coffee, local beer, wine, spirits and cocktails were availabe. These could be taken out into the garden and onto the beach too.
The beach was a few steps across a grassed area and was white and sandy and the sea was warm and clear. Snorkels could be borrowed from the pool house and we saw loads of amazing fish right off the beach by the hotel. We could also borrow pedaloes and canoes and get clean beach towels every morning. It was safe to walk along the beach in both directions and security men were on duty through the night in the gardens. We didn't get pestered by sales people either. We booked a couple of trips via the hotel and were very pleased with the service. Go to Ile aux Cerf;an island we went to by speed boat and had a great barbecue (booked thro' pool house and great value). Quad biking in L'Etoile was a great morning out and really good fun and walking with lions at Casela Park;an experience I will never forget and we had a great guide Steeve who was so passionate about his animals. Another experience was the bus to the market in Flacq! Has to be done:be prepared for some amazing sites, sounds and smells! Our room was a sea view on the fourth floor and we kept our door open every night listening to the waves and enjoying the sea breeze. The room had tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer and TV and air con. It was clean and a really comfy bed!
We met some wonderful people and staff members at this friendly hotel and are already making plans to go back with some of our family. It is a 3 star plus in our eyes

Room Tip: Waking up to the sea was something we personally wanted but the garden rooms are a bit bigger and ju...

Myself and my fiancé have just returned from a very pleasant stay at this hotel. I will breakdown the stay into various categories:-

1) Overall

A v nice hotel with good amenities :- games room (with a pool table) , a very adequate swimming pool, great access to the beach and sea and a lovely garden area for relaxing etc. There was a beach hut from where towels could be changed every day and from where pedalos and kayaks could be hired. There is a wifi facility (free) but only in the games room and reception areas.

2) Room

We had room 304- a sea facing room which was worth paying a little extra for. It was perfect for such a stay with an en suite, Tea and Coffee facilities, a tv ( on which BBC news could be tuned into) , adequate storage space and very good air conditioning. The room was kept clean every day and the towels would be arranged in a v artistic manner on the bed every morning by the staff.

3) Food and Drink

The food was v nice (although could be seen as a little repetitive) especially for a 3* hotel the a la carte menu evening meals were v nice accompanied by entertainment. However, some of the waiting on staff were a little surely and the process of signing for drinks on every occasion was tedious for an inclusive stay.

4) General tips

Worth hiring a car (but the locals do drive erratically) but would not recommend driving at night ( as there is v little street lighting )and town signage needs improving-a map is a must. Worth taking a trip to Isle aux Cerfs ( we went via Virgin on the catamaran trip)

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room with balcony

We went for christmas and the new year. The room was fine with most days finding a towel display on the bed. We had a problem with the TV but this was quickly sorted and they tightened a loose screw in my glasses as well. Another evening the lights tripped as we entered the room but within about 3 minutes someone was there to discover the problem and resolve it. Well temporarily as it was a wiring problem so the faulty light was disconnected at the switch and an additional lamp was supplied for the dressing table.

Staff were friendly and always had time to chat to you. Always aiming to please you and make your stay comfortable.

The food was our problem, breakfast was fine if you wanted omelette or eggs or pancakes, the bacon was rather overdone so didnt bother with that a second time. We wasnt keen on the sausages or the 'beans'. Cereals were fine if you liked the long life milk - which I dont, but there was enough selection for everyones taste including fresh fruit.

Lunchtime was very repetative - saute meat, saute vegetables, rice, pasta. The salad selection was very minimal so unfortunately I never tried. Fresh fruit salad and ice cream was the dessert every lunchtime. Our second week we opted to wait till 2.30 and get a burger (no chips tho - they had stopped doing chips altogether)

Evening meals were mostly served apart from the odd buffet evening. We did try to stick with the menu but for our last two evenings we asked and ordered alternative main meal, steak and chips one evening and it was the best meal we had, followed by plain grilled chicken the second evening.

They certainly made an effort over christmas and then new year, filling the balloons with confetti and giving out streamers etc. and new years eve they gave out hads and masks.

No problem with sunbeds and there was alternative shade under the tree if you didn't have an umbrella.

We went to Mauritius 20 years ago and stayed at Le Tropical Escape, the next hotel up along the beach and walked along to see if and how it had changed. We were pleased to see it was even better than our first visit and would certainly stay there if we ever go back.

Room Tip: We paid extra for sea view which was lovely and also managed to get a ground floor, Ideal to pop bac...

We returned to Silver Beach for the fourth time this year for five weeks over Christmas and New Year. The warm reception we received from the staff was wonderful. The waiters were as always friendly and smiling even though they work very hard and long hours, we never had any delay in service, apart from Christmas Eve, when they had to serve a seven course meal to a very full restaurant. We think the food is excellent value for money and if you didn't like something they would ask you if you would like something else. As not catering for vegans what rubbish!
Cheese, eggs, fish or meat were ready available to anyone who asked and as for the desserts
everyone commented how good they were, with exception to one evidently. The wine for all inclusive is also very good and other guest never had a problem with it. As for the beach and sun beds, the beach is clean, unspoiled and safe to swim. The sunshades unfortunately
are in short supply. My husband is the one who actually did get up each morning at 5.30 am and run along the beach, he has many witnesses to prove this including the waiters who start work then. ( He did not put shoes on three sun beds, which is completely false) he would then shower have his tea an go for breakfast. As did many other guests he met early in the morning. We did know who through them in the bushes as did other guests who thought it disgusting. People comment on how lovely the staff and food are and how they make it a lovely holiday, that is why they keep going back from all different countries. It is a very friendly hotel and over the years have met some lovely people from all parts of the world, so don,t be put off by Veli "Repeater Hotel" as you will always get one!!!

We first stayed at Silver beach in 2003 with my partner and his parents and had a fantasic time.
We wanted a beach hoilday so decided to return, this time just the two of us. Silver Beach is perfect for beach lovers as it goes straight onto the beach. The beach is clean and is good for snorkelling, and you can walk quite far which ever direction you go.
ROOM; We had a garden room on the ground floor which was perfect for sitting outside and watching all the birds in the gardens. The room had a large double bed, plus single bed, TV, fridge ,hairdryer, large wardrobe with varoius other units with drawers and a dressing table with large mirror, table and arm chair. Bathroom had 2 sinks and large shower. We had a fantastic room boy. His name was Vikram (room 215). Each day he cleaned the room perfectly and made something different of out of the towels each day. Things such as palm trees, elephants, catamarans, shells etc. If we had any questions about the local area he was always happy to help. Each morning he had a hugh smile and nothing was too much trouble.
MEALS; Breakfast was the best meal of the day, with freshly cooked eggs how ever you like them. Lunch time buffets with gorgeous stir frys. A big disappointment were the evening meals. Firstly people need to know that men HAVE to wear trousers in the evening or you cannot eat in the restaurant and this we were not told before booking, and my partner did not have long trousers. He did have dress shorts and a shirt which I think looked much nicer than some men who wore old jeans and T.shirts. Buffet evenings were fine. On set menu evening these were not very good. the waiters had so much work to do which they did there best but with so many people to serve, service was slow. We did not think much of the choice of meal either, all seem have have sauce on the meats.
TRIPS; We hired a speed boat for half a day and went snorkelling to Blue Bay and vrious other places along the way back. We also got a cab a couple of times to Trou Duce and Flac.

We met some lovely people. Sue,Dave and Chris who went met back in 2003 and have stayed in contact with via xmas cards, we also met Sheila and her husband, and Iain and his wife also repeaters Silver Beach is a good relaxing holiday, and Mauritius is a beautiful contry. The only thing we would change is buffet every evening and to made clear about dress code before we arrived.
