My family of five booked here from 18 - 24 February 2014. We booked a bed, dinner and breakfast package. The location is great-on the beach. On the bus route too. Short bus ride to Grand Baie. We also travelled by bus to Port Louis.
Live entertainment every evening. Dinner has a variety of salads, hot meals and desserts. Food is well prepared. Hotel staff pleasant and helpful. All the Chefs were accomodating. Rooms could do with a little renovation. No baths only showers. Carry your own hair shampoo, conditioner etc. Hotel does not have family rooms. Book in room 206 or in that wing if you want quiet evenings as it is away from the pool and entertainment area. We had a pleasant stay.

The Coaral Azur is a small and friendly hotel. It is a great location with it's own beach and excellent water sports facilities. Including the addition of Wildwind sailing, who are professional and well trained staff.
The Hotel is in need of some updating and renovation throughout, however the rooms are comfortable as expected in 3 star. The beds are comfortable and the servicing to the rooms excellent.
The pool and pool area is lovely, however the sun-loungers in the gardens and on the beach need to be replaced.
The bar and restaurant provide a good service with a themed food evening each night, so lots of variety. The entertainment team are very keen on ensuring you have an enjoyable time. However, 2 or 3 quite nights would have been nice.
Nearby you can try the local cuisine and Grand Bay has a large supermarket if you require extras.
The hotel recommends the spa facilities across the road and it is a very good recommendation.
We had a lovely week there and would go back but would like to see some updating.

Room Tip: This is a small friendly local hotel, if you want flamboyant and opulence this is not for you. If y...

We spent a couple of weeks in Mauritius around New Year. We stayed in 4 different hotels in different parts of the Island. We found the hotels extremely expensive or the opposite, very cheap. This hotel had more a price we are used to pay.
We liked the friendly atmosphere at the hotel, all the stuff were very nice and service minded. The room was cleaned very well, so we were content.
The location is good, short walk to the long beach if you don't want to stay at the hotel area.
We had buffet dinner and it was very good, It seemed to be different theme, Italian dishes, Chinese dishes, Indian food,
Best of all was the New Years Eve with celebration. We had a great time and the food was fantastic.
After 4 nights we moved away to next hotel but we would have liked to stay longer!
We would recommend this hotel to people who doesn't want to spend a fortune at the hotel, just relax in a friendly environment, we would have loved to have our grandchildren with, it would have suited them.

We decided at the last minute to go to Mauritius and unfortunately our usual venues were fully booked so we took a chance on Coral Azur, a 3 star hotel. Corel Azur is on the North West coast, just before one gets to Grand Baie and is located between two big popular beaches in walking distance and is about an hour drive from the airport.

Knowing that it was a 3 star hotel, we were quite realistic about the quality but even then were surprised about how bad some aspects ended up being. I had read a number of the reviews ahead of time and am now quite amazed at some of the glowing reviews. Either we South Africans have higher standards or the the European traveller is more focused on the cost versus quality or there are some fake reviews or a mix of all.

Let me start off with the good points.

1. The hotel has its own private beach with constant security guards which is pleasantly unexpected so one worries less about keeping a constant lookout for the valuables.
2. Another noteable mention is the large safe in the room so no hassle of carrying valuables all over the place.
3. The air conditioner in our room surprisingly worked well - I say surprisingly considering the overall state of the rooms,
4. The beach area is quite decent and allowed one to snorkel and actually see fish right close by the hotel beach.
5. The hotel offers decent water sports at no cost, paddle skis, paddle boat and snorkeling equipment with twice daily trips to the reef for snorkeling at no cost.
6. What is especially a bonus is the twice daily no charge water skiing.
7. The pool area was overall very nice, the pool was a decent size and had a great shallow relaxing section and there are two working jacuzzis (but no hot water).

In terms of the not so good points.

1. The hotel was opened in 1986 and clearly had not been refurbished since then. The hotel has a seventies style look to it but sadly very aged look. The rooms are quite awful, with aging (with so e broken) furniture and the absolutely worst plumbing system ever.
2. The pool table is in a sad state as well as the table tennis equipment.
3. There was no bath in the room, just a badly designed shower that messes up the entire bathroom floor, and one faced a lottery every morning and evening as to whether one would have hot water - if one could call water just above lukewarm hot. Complaining to management a number of times about the water had no real effect.
4. The hotel is extremely biased towards French people. Most of the staff barely spoke or understood English which made ordering drinks and food a constant challenge. One particular bar man was terrible - one ordered a coke and got hot chocolate, ordered regular coffee and got espresso style coffee etc etc.
5. While the staff were friendly, the level of service was unacceptable. There were repeated times that we had to go looking for the roving pool waitress or the person in charge of the snorkel equipment. While the manager was visible, he did not take service levels seriously and I got the impression that he saw his job more about doing PRO with the favored French and Italian guests.
6. The bathroom and beach towels are worn out and very cheap.
7. The pool decking was in a shocking state, worn through and I stubbed my toes quite a few times. Another example of under investment as it should have been replaced a long time ago.
8. I will keep my view of the food situation short and sharp - suited for French people, too little variety and the service not up to standard once again. Plates not removed and cutlery not replaced after each course and too few waiters for too many people.
9. The TV service itself was a huge joke - they feature their satellite TV as one of their key features but just a hodgepodge of French and Indian channels and some channels would show the same program. Other nights, the channels would be just blank, like someone forgot to tune the channels. Once again, a sign of lack of accountability and lay the blame at the management of the hotel,

In conclusion, this is not a hotel for the traveller that expects decent fair value quality and service. The hotel suffers from the classic signs of under investment and is just a shoddy aging version of the great hotel it must have been in 1986. It needs a higher focus on the right level of management and I would not recommend it to any other traveller and especially not to any English speaking person.

Room Tip: Take a room on the extreme right wing at the end as those give the full sea view as all other rooms...

My fiance and I spent 1 week at this hotel and were welcomed by very friendly staff. We were provided a room while our sea view room was being prepared which allowed us to catch up on sleep after a late flight. The hotel had different themed evenings every night with entertainment provided. The food was great with a wide variety of dishes available. The view from the hotel was breathtaking and the activities included by the hotel were enjoyable! The staff always greeted us with a smile and provided help when asked for directions. We definitely recommend staying at this hotel. The prices are very reasonable and you get value for money. The only negative thing was the fact that we didn't always have hot water during the day in the shower. But this didn't spoil our stay at all.

Its a good hotel, nicely located with a clean beautiful beach and seaside swimming pool and jacuzi. The room was nice, neat and clean with garden side view. It has evening cultural programmes in the lobby, which we enjoyed a lot. The food was good, but since the dinner was not included in our hotel package, the food rates were exceptionally high! But there are supermarkets closeby, so its manageable. The hotel claims to provide free water sports....but nothing worth it. But overall the hotel stay is very good primarily because of the peaceful and beautiful location.
