We recently sent a week at the Lux Grande Gaub and enjoyed a very relaxing week doing not very much at all. The hotel is very comfortable with good sized and well equipped rooms, the food in the restaurant is superb and the beach is everything that you could hope for. However it is all the staff that makes the hotel stand out. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble (Selven in the bar was a particular standout and was especially welcoming).

My husband and I have just returned from a 12 night stay at the Lux Grand Gaube in Mauritius. I had spent a lot of time reviewing various resorts in Mauritius before booking this hotel for our anniversary.

From the moment we arrived till the minute we left the staff were simply outstanding. As it was a special occasion, the customer relations staff had upgraded us to a junior suite which was simply stunning. The resort is beautifully situated in a sheltered bay looking out towards the northern islands. The room was gorgeous and had a lovely terrace. Each night our pillows were scented at turndown and we were given handmade soap scrub as a lovely extra touch.

We had decided to go all inclusive and we would definately recommend this. Unlike so many other resorts, all inclusive at the Lux does not confine you to just the buffet restaurant (although the food there was the best buffet food I have had anywhere in the world). We were able to eat in the other restaurants from their a la carte with no extra cost. I am vegetarian and if there wasn't anything to my liking or I had had it before, the chefs simply made me whatever I wanted.
Shimla in the main buffet restaurant always looked after us in the morning, whilst Jeanne Phillipe at the beach was a fabulous host.

The beach bar is the hub of the hotel and the staff there are the most friendly and efficient of any staff we have met on our travels all over the world. Selven is an absolute gentleman and ensured our every whim was catered for, whilst Gloria and Naiken are always smiling and just want to make sure they are doing everything they can to make your holiday perfect.

We spent lots of time enjoying snorkelling and diving and the staff at the boathouse are really informative and knowledgeable. We had a fantastic dive at nearby Gunners Coin Island.

A highlight of our holiday was the cooking lesson we had with Chef Nedege. My husband and I love cooking and cooking in the herb garden followed by a lovely lunch outside was something we will never forget. Chef was just terrific and we learned so much from her. Definately try to book a lesson if you are visiting. We had never experienced anything like that before.

And that is the ethos of this resort. It is different from any other place we have visited because the staff really do care about you enjoying yourself. All the little thoughtful extras - the pillow scents, soaps, amazingly comfortable beds, cooking lessons, star gazing, cinema under the stars; it's not just a holiday - it's the experience of a lifetime.

So much so that we are already planning our next visit - thank you Lux Grand Gaube - we miss you guys!

Room Tip: Sea view each morning is a joy to behold.

Alex, my husband, and I spent 10 nights at this resort last November (2012). We were so impressed with the resort and all of its staff that we decided to take our daughter, son and their partners this year. Infact our 2 best friends also joined us so in total we were 8 and took 4 rooms.
We stayed 12 nights this time and were not disappointed.
The resort is paradise. The rooms were immaculate, thanks to Cousay, lovely man.
We went for breakfast every morning to the Kitchen restaurant which was very good and so very fresh. We saw Sandren every morning and throughout the day at the bar. He also made our holiday so extra special. Such a nice man. Anvrid (hope I've spelt that right) made our special cocktails, he was superb! All the bar staff were so nice and couldn't do enough for us.
Our favorite restaurant was the Beach, headed by Jean Philipe, who was just lovely. Nothing was too much trouble even being a company of 8.
We did 3 boat trips with Captain Tom (all different) and so worth doing. We all had a blast and Tom was so accommodating. Thank you so much Tom, you are great.
The beach crew, headed by Reedoo are fantastic. Kumar and Jordi are just amazing. They walk up and down that beach all day making sure everyone is served and has everything they want.
Then we come to Reedoo, what a star! The master! The one and only who goes out of his way to make your holiday WOW! He did exactly that. Thank you Reedoo x.
Also thankyou to the general manager who helped us make fun for our kids on their arrival.
Thankyou, we all had a fab time. See you next year!!!

Whilst staying at the Tamassa Hotel in November, we had a 3day trip to Grand Gaube hotel. Having stayed there twice previously it reminded us of how much we enjoyed our previous visits, so much in fact we have now booked to return in February 2014 for our 42nd wedding anniversary.

We arrived on Tuesday morning (26/11) and are only 2 days into our 14 day holiday! We have travelled extensively to various parts of the world and we have to say that this is the most fantastic place ever! The staff are wonderful and can't do enough for you!

Yes the flight is a killer but as soon as you get here the flight is a distant memory.

Reedoo on the beach is brilliant-he has organised some trips for us and has gone beyond the call of duty for us, however saying that all the staff we have come across have gone out of their way for us.

From what we have seen so far, we will definitely be back

We came here for our 25th wedding anniversary, all inclusive for 2 weeks and were not disappointed.

Main points:

1) Beach - They have 2 beach areas: a main beach with nice swimming area; a secondary beach with an bay you can paddle (not really deep enough to swim). You need to be up at 8:00 to get a sunbed on the main beach in prime spots. That is against my religion so we were usually too late for the prime positions - but we never failed to find one somewhere - even later in the day.

2) Wildlife - A lot of different coloured birds - quite a site when someone decides to throw down a bread roll on the beach. Some get into the restaurant areas but not at pest levels.

3) Room - Room maid was wonderful - and a dab hand with towel art - everything from a swan to a hanging monkey - she needs her own exhibition.

4) Bugs - Some mozzies in the room but they are slow enough to catch, so go around in the evening when you are getting ready to go out and play "splat".

5) Activities - Water skiing, canoes, windsurfing all free with all inclusive. They did have an aircraft that took rides from the beach which looked fun, but didn't have time for that.
I also learned how to swing a golf club with a free lesson and wellied some 100 balls a day during my 2 week stay (cost approx. £4 a tray of 50 balls). The instructor is a local and very patient and talented.

6) A few regular locals sell goods and trips on the beach. I prefer to buy from them as you get reasonable prices and you are giving a little back to the local community. We took a boat trip with Big John's brother Don - we caught a few fish, one of which we cooked on a deserted island beach BBQ. It felt pretty exclusive and Don was pretty unobtrusive.

7) 3 main restaurants - main, a seafood beach restaurant and another overlooking the sea selling pizzas, steaks, fish - more of a mix. The buffet was a bit.... well.... buffet - so a felt more rushed and the food wasn't really 5 star - However, we had no problem booking into the other two even 10 days ahead.

8) We hired a car for 2 days a toured the South of the island - usual sites - Gri Gri, Chamarel, Grand Basin and also some more northern bits: Port Louis, Eureka - all of which were well worth the visit and good to do under your own steam and pace. You need to drive slowly though as some of the Mauritians drive in unexpected ways. If you are passing through Port Louis though, you should do it outside rush hour as it gets very very busy and chaotic.

9) Staff - what can I say, I don't have one bad word to say - from the moment we arrived to the moment we left - they were attentive, chatty, bantered when they felt you were up for it and generally dealt with issues very promptly and with a smile - best hotel staff I have come across for a while. They also operated well as a team.

We deliberately left a few sites to see so we have an excuse to go back :)

Room Tip: All hotel rooms are sea view I believe - so make sure you are not charged more for that.

We travelled at the end of October 2013, both very tired and in need of a good pampering holiday. We were treated like Royalty from the time we arrived until the moment we left. The surroundings are beautiful, the food very varied and delicious and the atmosphere very relaxing. We are normally ready to go home after a 10 day holiday but we could have stayed on here for another week. I can't praise the staff highly enough - nothing was too much trouble and they all always had smiles on their faces. We will certainly be going back and cannot recommend it highly enough.
